Mardi Gras 2011 in Philadelphia

Drink Special

Mardi Gras is an age-old tradition based on the historical eating of rich, often fatty foods in preparation for fasting associated with Lent. Today, it has become synonymous with parties, masquerades, and indulgence. For this year’s Fat Tuesday on March 8, if you aren’t lucky enough to be in New Orleans there are plenty of ways to celebrate closer to home.

Head down to South Street, Philadelphia’s Bohemian neighborhood, for a colorful celebration featuring drink specials at many of the bars for those 21 and over. Nearby Walnut Street will host the Wild Bohemians, a group of over 20 of the area’s top musicians who have become a Mardi Gras tradition over the last 27 years. Festivities begin at 8:00pm.

Finally, Bourbon Blue will be offering drink specials all day long, hosting performances by a local cover band and DJ to make your Mardi Gras a memorable (or not so memorable) one!
