Fresh Produce Vs. Traffic

What better way to encourage Americans to “buy and eat local” than to act as an example for them? First Lady Michelle Obama recently put in an application for a farmer’s market right outside of the White House, but until now, the proposed location for the farmer’s market was unknown. Yesterday, the DCist reported that the First Lady’s office has requested to establish the farmer’s market on Vermont Avenue, between H and I Streets NW. The farmer’s market would run every Thursday from 1 PM to 8 PM. Although DC residents are very accepting of the farmer’s market, which would provide another source for fresh, local produce, many are worried about further congestion in an already high-traffic area.  To read more and to join the discussion on the proposal site, head over to the DCist.
