As Door 74 haven’t worked alongside you for years , I got there only to find we had No booking !!! Very annoyed and disappointing to say the least .

In my booking i told them it was for my boyfriends 30th birthday. We were seated in the back on a table for 8 with other people. It was uncomfortable and not at all what i had in mind.

The lady who opens the door and is supposed to welcome you is rude. I had booked a table for two for our anniversary, she forced us to sit at the bar, which is narrow, uncomfortable, and overall not cosy. I had to argue with her; I explained that I made reservations a week beforehand for a TABLE (the online tool for reservation literally books a TABLE), and this is how she schooled me on going out and drinking at their bar:
1. "You did not book a table, you reserved seats, and you get a place to sit".
2. "We are one of the best cocktail bars in Amsterdam, you should be happy to be seated".
3. "I know you are shocked, but it is your first time here, you will get used to it", etc.
I kept arguing with her for a bit, but she was so impolite, arrogant, and illogical that I decided I will not continue.
I am a 34 years old woman, together with my boyfriend, we are a very well traveled and experienced couple. The fact that I had to listen to a speech from a waitress/door lady half of my age on how a "good cocktail bar" and "reservation" function was ridiculous. This is a good example of a touristic place and how poorly they treat people. I am based in Amsterdam; will never go back there :)
The cocktails were average. The only good thing about this bar was the nice bartender who made us the cocktails, a sweet chatty guy with whom we had some good conversations!

Sadly we were disappointed with the cocktails we ordered, both in terms of flavour and the ways in which they were served - my wife received hers in a bog standard coffee cup without even a saucer. We have been before and the experience was sublime. It’s lost all its magic and I don’t understand why. In abandoning a menu post Covid, you seem to have abandoned quality cocktails and the magic that came with them.

Beautiful location. Excellent cocktails. Good staff. We had the 3 course cocktail menu. We choose this menu for the experience and since we want to support them in the covid times.
But since we were 15 min late, we only had 1 hour and 45 minutes for 3 cocktails. And that was very rushed. We were not finished with our second cocktail when they already served the 3rd one. And we were not finished with the 3rd one when they already gave us the bill. Because of this, it felt very expensive.
It was our fault that we were late. But when you are paying these prices you would've expect better recommandations.
I would recommend this place to other people. However I would not recommend them the 3 course menu and let them order on their own tempo. Then you would have the speakeasy, laid back experience that Door74 is known for.
