Meats were dry. Schnitzel was fried in an oil that has passed its max usage amounts and it was dry. The Black Forest cake does not come to black forest. Only good things was our server

My friends and I have been coming to the Alphorn for over 40 years when we used to come up from Toronto to ski on weekends and we just loved it. When we retired, we moved up to Collingwood. We came in for the first time since pre-Covid yesterday. Did it ever bring back a lot of memories. However, we were very disappointed with the schnitzel, to the point that none of us would ever order it again. Ironically, the best schnitzel we’ve ever had is at Gustov’s and we used to go there all the time for your schnitzel until you took it off the menu. I’m taking the time to tell you this because I hope the Alphorn stays in business and does well. This is positive criticism. We love the atmosphere and we like to come to celebrate birthdays there and sing the birthday song. I fear if the mainstay, schnitzel, doesn’t improve you may run into problems. It tasted like it had been cooked and then refried to heat it up again. More greasy breading than meat. Sorry, but I thought you should know since you’re doing everything else right. All the best. It’s was so hot in there we were eating our dinner with literal sweat running down our faces. People like to come in on a hot day and have a chance to cool down. It’s a courtesy that you would provide a comfortable temperature. Our waitress started out down right bitchy for no reason. The Diet Coke is disgusting! When sending it back the waitress says ya we get a lot of complaints about our Diet Coke. Ok so nobody wants to do anything to fix it? Food was just alright. Schnitzel was flavourless and the Caesar salad was flavourless. It was disappointing because we always wanted to try this restaurant. We would not come back and we also would not recommend to our friends unfortunately.

We took a look back and figured out that the loud conversations at the bar were a few guests that had been in the night before discussing a birthday celebration that was held at the restaurant. it probably sounded like a staff conversation, however. Hello, We had a fun night with good friends ( who are also Clients) . The service was great , yet , almost too fast. We rushed to order drinks and food. We booked the table for 1.5 hours , yet we were finished the main course in 20 min. Bea was polite and professional as a server and the birthday candles were a nice surprise. The Manager at the bar was cordial. Schnitzel was good and big portion. Green beans were hard. The asphalt driveway near the handicap parking was broken and not level. My Client struggled in the dark , with his senior walker and almost fell. I recommend resurface. Sincerely , Ed

As usual - the whole experience rates an 11 - We were a party of 6 celebrating 1 b'day person who had never been there before. We love to see all the skiers and the children and the noise and the ambiance is so fun as well. The staff are all wonderful and fun-loving. The restaurant has a live pulsing beat to it and we go there a lot and I can't wait to go again. The experience is lovely every time.

The Alphorn has been the most important restaurant family tradition for the 15 years we have been summer vacationing here. We have introduced some of our friends and other family members as well. We truly enjoy our server , Wanda. She is friendly, great sense of humour and always happy to accommodate any special requests. The ambiance and charm, is like no other restaurant. escargot were delicious. also had the cheese fondue. fondue itself was great, except bread basket that came was hard bread. they had clearly cut up the bread earlier to prep and it all got quite hard as a result. for a fondue, bread is a key ingredient, so needs to be fresh. this definitely impacted the fondue experience. would have been top notch if bread served was fresher and soft.

I was very, very disappointed with the food. Bland, Bland. I thought we could order fondue with different sides. Not available. We had great food all weekend visiting Collingwood and on our last night it was a huge disappointment at the Alphorn. The seats are very uncomfortable, there is a smell when you walk in. Server did not know the menu that well, but was very pleasant. It had such a hype online , but it was a complete waste of money. We did not feel well after eating our meals. I had such high hopes. Will not recommend or ever go back again. I never write negative reviews, but this experience was so disappointing.

The restaurant was super busy but we got seated right away as we had a reservation. Very lively atmosphere and there were about 4 birthday celebrations which made it fun for all. The Alphorn salad was disappointing but our daughter liked her Caesar salad and all 4 of us enjoyed the pork schnitzel with Hunter sauce. We would definitely return.

Was looking forward to having schnitzel, it was really really overcooked and the “fresh” veggies were also well overcooked!!!! The rosti was the only good part of the meal.. might try restaurant again and try the onion soup and fondue but will definitely not have or suggest the schnitzel to anyone………

When you asked on your site, I would rather make a reservation and talk to a human, it asked if it was an occasion or event. I answered birthday.
The candles and song was a surprise. However, I had purchased an expensive cake to celebrate with guests for a surprise back at the house.
When a piece of cake arrived at the table, not having been ordered by anyone, we were both surprised. When the bill came and it was $12 plus tax and tip we were shocked.
I find this practice quite inappropriate especially when there is no previous disclosure. The bill was paid with no discussion but it will never happen to me again and I certainly will tell people.

My first time to what I understand is an iconic Collingwood restaurant. Go for the decor alone, but stay for generous helpings of German style cuisine. Staff were great, bringing out a free piece of Black Forest Cake when I told them it was my wife's birthday. My spatzle was a bit chewy, but my wife loved her schnitzel. Definitely worth going to.

One of the big concerns for restaurants when taking reservations is that some people just aren't considerate of other guests that may want to dine.. They will make a reservation at several restaurants so they can decide where they want to go when the time comes and not cancel the reservations they don't want! It's true! Some people's children, let us tell you! We end up holding a table for a guest that never arrives, walk-in guests get upset with us when they see empty tables.. it is just not a great experience for anyone. Asking for a credit card allows us to protect our guests from those that don't like to play nice and, ultimately, helps us provide a better guest experience! Rest assured out credit card system is 100% secure and any personal information is held in the strictest of confidence and electronically shredded once it is no longer needed!- Overall: 8/10

Our first time at Alphorn. Booked the table ahead of the time for our trip to Blue Mountain not knowing what to expect and we are happy we did!!! The food and service were excellent! Mostly Swiss, German cuisine as per my knowledge. Big portions. You won't leave the place hungry for sure. I recommend to book the table ahead. The place gets very busy. The interior design is unique. You can admire every single piece of memorabilia there for hours!

The reservation process was insulting. They would not take a reservation over the phone. To reserve on an American site and to have to leave a credit card on the site was insulting. The emphasis on the fact that if we were 10 minutes late or we did not cancel at least 24 hours before our time was insulting. The schnitzel was over cooked as were the Rosti potatoes. The service was great. We will not be back as there are at least two places in the area serving better schnitzel.

It was Monday night, March 6th, 2023 at 7:10 when we arrived. I made reservations for 2 people for 7 pm. The Alphorn was a favorite restaurant of mine years ago (over 20 yrs ago) and I was really looking forward to a plate of their schnitzel. I would be driving through Collingwood around 7 pm and called a few hours before to make reservations. I've always enjoyed their food and ambiance. I was with my elderly friend who had difficulty walking so the waitress moved us closer to the door so he didn't have to walk to the other side of the restaurant. Immediately we were served cold water and a warm tasty loaf of bread. A couple of minutes later she took our order and within 5 minutes we were served by a younger man (not our waitress) who came straight from the kitchen. The 2 plates of schnitzel he served us were a really dark golden brown in color and overcooked. It appeared they had been cooked twice and tasted like they had been cooked twice. It was difficult to cut with the knife, especially for my elderly friend and the meat was dried out. The sliced carrots were almost completely raw and the green beans were tasteless and cold. Needless to say, I was completely disappointed. Thankfully, the Swiss rosti potato was delicious because I was starving and I ate bread for the first time in 2 years. I wasn't going to say anything to the waitress, but then thought they should really know for the next guest. So when the waitress came with a doggie bag (literally, my pups ate schnitzel for dinner) I showed her the color of the schnitzel. That was the first time she saw it as she wasn't the one who served it to us. She was apologetic and offered us a complimentary dessert. We declined and that wasn't the reason I told her. The meal with a 20% tip was $89, my friend had a draft beer and I drank water. I think they may have made a mistake with the bill because we only ordered 2 regular-cut schnitzels @ $22.95 plus 2 gravies and one draft beer.

Birthday celebrations are great. There were several in a short period of time. Got to be a lot. Wait staff was having trouble keeping up as restaurant got busier. Suitable attire on wait staff would be a nice touch, rather than short gym shorts.
