My wife and I both enjoyed a rare three course meal at The Old School whilst on holiday. The food was very good, no real complaints at all.
We started with a blue cheese on blue cheese salad (yes, you read that correctly) and an Asian duck salad for me. Both were lovely. Despite the strange abundance of blue cheese in the name, the salad was not overly powerful. A good blend of apple, cucumber, nuts and of course the cheese. Meanwhile my duck salad was crispy cuts of duck with greens, watermelon and nuts. It was a great way to start.
Our mains were a sausage stuffed chicken daily special for me with local langoustines on a bed of boiled potatoes, beans and greens for my better half. The extras were ok but the shell fish spot on. My ballotine of chicken with sausage and bacon was cooked perfectly. Not so keen on the mash as it was very heavy. The charred mini cauliflowers were perfect though. I couldn't finish the dish but that was due to its size.
Desert was a chocolate brownie with ice cream and a sticky toffee pudding with the same vanilla ice cream. Both were excellent. Not light but it's a holiday after all.
With two drinks this cost about £75 which we thought excellent value. The only niggles were our desert order being misplaced and waiting for over 20 mins to arrive and the ambience. It is in an old school building after all and quite bright. It was fine when it was full but as more left it became a bit flat and the cleaning of tables is not conducive to the experience. Small gripes as the food was really very good.
