My Mother in law and I both had the Salmon & Haddock fish cake. I enjoyed mine but mother in law said there was too much potato and not enough fish in hers !? I love the fact that there are plenty of choices for gluten free meals

Our table was close to the bar and we had to ask children to stop running in and out. The bar staff seemed to ignore them. There were 3 of us and instead of putting us on a table for 3 the man who greeted us put us on a table for 5 next to the bar. Don't accept table 17. The food was good, fresh and plenty of it. I would like to sit down before being asked what "you guys" would like to drink. There is good service and sometimes over zealous. We wont be going back.

I had a chicken Kiev served with chips, the best I’ve tasted in a long while and the salad which although was very nice would’ve been even better with a better dressing.(this I felt was wishy-washy from the salad leaves not being dried)
Overall a lovely meal and my nephew‘s meal, the lamb suet pudding he said was lovely too.

Having been regular customers at the landlord's/manager's previous location we were looking forward to experiencing an even better occasion at The Bird in Hand. Whilst our visit was satisfactory, I cant deny we were a little disappointed. The menu was somewhat underwhelming and only a couple of "specials" were available. The staff although pleasant were not especially welcoming and the previous good, cosy atmosphere we have enjoyed has been overtaken by a bright and efficient environment which lacks soul. I should add the food was good - if anything the portions were too big! Will we rush to go back? - probably not.

Had the best time catching up with friends over dinner! From the moment we arrived, everything was absolutely spot on — a warm welcome, friendly and attentive service, and food that we all rated highly. Every dish was delicious, and the experience from start to finish couldn’t be faulted.

There were 4 of us having lunch and we all loved the food. One of us had the steak and Guinness pie and said it was the best pie he had had when dining out. My wife and I had the beef salad and both us thoroughly enjoyed them. The other person had a burger which they enjoyed. The desserts were also very good. The couple with us share a triple chocolate dessert and my wife had the baked Alaska, which looked fantastic and made me jealous, as I am diabetic. She said it was lovely. We will be back.

As input on trip advisor… staff rushed, no engagement, huge wait times for food albeit only about 45% capacity. Suet pie well undercooked ( I worked in a Restaurant as deputy chef, at no stage did anyone ask our table if our food was ok. Been going since 2016.. no more as new owners need to up their game at the prices charged.

Before coming, I looked at one menu online which mentioned a few dishes which were not on the menu in the restaurant. This was a slight disappointment. However we all enjoyed our meal. Three of us chose the suet dish and none of us could finish it as there was so much suet. I hate wasting food. Could it be smaller or thinner ?
Most of us had ice cream. It would be good if that was listed on the menu.

The service, food, quantity and quality was all excellent! Highly recommended and we will return.
Only slight negative, was we sat near the loo’s and there were occasions where we had strong wafts of the smell of weed which was unpleasant. Not sure if there is a smoking area outside close by. Next time we’ll reserve a table on the other side.

Lovely to see this old pub open again. The food for lunch was excellent, with a good selection. Our only criticism is that there were only two waitresses and they were also working behind the bar, so when the bar got busy they were a bit scarce in the restaurant area. Unfortunately we had to wait over an hour for our meal as they only had one oven in use. The ‘special meal’ pork loin was lovely, the burger was over cooked. Can’t burgers ever be medium rare? The choice was limited unless you had pub classics which is served in every pub. The treacle tart was excellent.
Staff were welcoming and friendly.
Unfortunately noise levels are high because of low ceiling and uncarpeted flooring which causes a problem for people with hearing aids.

Not as hoped. Restaurant was very cold, disappointing that doesn’t serve cocktails anymore. Food was ok, not all home cooked so disappointed on that front. Starters were bought in, croquettes, breaded Brie, halloumi fries…. It was still tasty enough. Staff were brilliant very good service & attentive. Decor was lovely. Not sure we’d be quick to return.

A lovely tea time meet up for former colleagues. The food was lovely, although mine was lukewarm and even after requesting it to be heated more, still wasn't as hot as I would have liked. There was a mix up over desserts but the server was fabulous, righted the wrong, apologised and keep us up to date. The billing was then confused but somehow it came out all eight in the end :)

Went out for a roast dinner
The roast potatoes were very sad, oily and cold, the crackling was more like a triangle of soggy rubber. The veg was okay but nothing special and lacked much flavour.

There was a children's party going on in the part of the pub where we were seated and the noise made conversations very difficult.
We had to wait for over an hour for our main course.
The roast pork loin was tough, thickly cut and cold.
The roast potatoes were impossible to cut because the skin was very hard.
The reply to our complaint was that they were very busy. If such is the case then either they should employ more staff or accept fewer bookings.
The standard has dropped dramatically since the re-opening.

This is our local and it’s massively changed, feels like a restaurant more than a country pub now. A lot of the locals now don’t visit which is a massive shame. It was freezing inside, what’s happened to the open fire which gave warmth and a lovely atmosphere? Just a few B&Q heaters dotted around and plugged in which ruins the setting. Food was ok but £21 for a seafood pie which seemed like it used pre-made fish mix and a bit of grated potato seems a bit much. Couldn’t fault the staff though.

Your food tasted very nice and worth the price charged. However we were a group of four, two of who ordered specific meals which were fine. Unfortunately my cousin and I ordered the roast beef which was put on the table and left so long that it was quite cold when the gravy was brought to the table but another long wait for the accompanying vegetables was forced and then the hot delicious cauliflower cheese was brought to the table. I like my food hot and the only thing hot served to me was the cauliflower cheese. As two of our party of four were now well into their meals when the employee came to ask how the food was she was told it was ok but it really could have been a much nicer experience for my cousin and me who spent our time covering each mouthful with a bit of cauliflower cheese/sauce to try and heat the other ingredients. I wanted it to be a really special evening meal for my cousin, who was visiting from Scotland, and sadly that did not prove to be the case. I do hope your staff make more effort to bring the prepared food promptly to tables rather than assume customers are content to wait unacceptably long intervals between parts of the dishes ordered to be brought to their tables. As I said at the beginning of this your food is very good it’s just ours was cold.

Not the warmest of welcomes as we walked in to the bar. Halloumi fries starter was great. Main courses, burger, fish and chips etc all std pub fayre. Staff had started setting up tables for next day while we were still eating our main courses. Felt a little like we had outstayed our welcome. Overall, I would rate as just above ok.

Had a lovely meal again at The Bird in Hand on Tuesday evening. We both had the Steak & Guinness pie which was excellent and full of lots of big pieces of steak. I had the white & dark chocolate bread and butter pudding for desert. It was all delicious. The service was great and it was quite busy, especially for a Tues evening so it was a good atmosphere.
