Delicious brunch in lovely surroundings with welcoming, friendly service. Loved the focus on a short menu of dishes, well executed using quality ingredients. We had a first class lunch at Bowleys. We chose the set menu which was good value for the Michelin standard food much of which is locally sourced. Before the starter we had a selection of amuse-bouche - delicious! We will definitely be returning for the best food in this area.

The food was excellent-the only reason I didnt give it 10 was that the menu doesnt seem to change much. The service was just right-not rushing you but there when you were ready for the next course. The ambiance was lovely and friendly.

I have already given feedback to the chef in person and by email. We were both underwhelmed with the food. My rabbit starter was uneventful, the main course of pithivier was one of the worst meals I've ever had and the mousse dessert was solid. The cod however was delicious. Perhaps it was just a bad day or perhaps the establishment is aspiring to a standard it can't meet. In any event, given the normal good reviews, it promised far more than it delivered.

We dined at Bowley's with 2 of our friends who live in Trottiscliffe. The 2 of us live in Crawley. The food was excellent. The service was very good apart from one member of the serving staff. We do not know his name.....a tall guy. He was very stern and unsmiling and argued with one member of our party about the starter that he had ordered. The amuse bouche was a nice touch, however we were not told what was on the platter when it was served to us. It transpired that the balls were meat. We do not eat meat or poultry so our friends ate the 4 meatballs. When the platter was taken away our friend asked what the dip and the other item was. They turned out to be smoked butter and aioli. We had been asked if any of us had any allergies - but as we did not know that we would be getting an amuse bouche we had not thought to say at that point that 2 of us did not eat meat or poultry.

My husband and I had reviewed the menu prior and were both excited to try
the rabbit starter. Although we had an early evening table after being given the menus we were told "Oh by the way if your looking at the rabbit we've run out". The other starters were not really to our liking and nothing was offered to replace the unavailable starter. Appreciate that menus can be subject to change but very early to run out of what was the only meat starter. Having perused the wine list offered we chose one of our favourites but on ordering were told "Oh we don't do that one anymore" So why was it still on the wine list and not struck out or marked unavailable? Overall we enjoyed the food although for a Michelin* experience we have had better for the same or less cost. We would visit Bowleys again as love the rural country pub experience but would again review the menu and call them to pre-order any favourite choices.

We enjoyed an evening at Bowleys restaurant for our wedding anniversary. We wanted somewhere special to celebrate the occasion and it didn't disappoint. The service was outstanding with the head waiter talking us through our Taster menu dishes as they came to us and then spoke about the wine that came to compliment the dish. We enjoys all the dishes and was happy with the variety within the taster menu. The staff was very good and never left us waiting.
The choice of exclusive to Plough Inn local Kent wine was also a bonus and delicious. We would definitely go again to try out more of the menu. Thank you for a great evening.

This was not our first visit and I have to say it was the best meal yet. Came with friends on Thursday lunchtime and had a wonderful dining experience. Every course fresh, beautifully presented and tasted divine. Nothing too much trouble. The Plough seems to have adjusted the portion sizes since our last visit and it represents great value for money. The new addition of the box of chocolates at the end of the meal was a lovely surprise. We are lucky to have such a nice fine dining restaurant so close by.

A lovely meal with superb food exquisitely presented. The portions were a reasonable size, which allowed us to enjoy two courses, plus complimentary bread and dip, amuse-bouches and petits fours. Sadly, we didn't have room for dessert (!) but those going to other tables looked good. The building is historic but the setting light and stylish. Service is attentive but not obtrusive. Didn’t get off to a good start because our usually very contented baby was crying and we were asked to move into the bar. He soon settled and slept for the rest of the time.
Felt the fish starter and main were too similar and did not like the grapefruit on the starter . Loved both deserts.
Would have preferred to have petit fours with coffee rather than with bill.
Although we had to move tables, our meal was delayed but we were not rushed
On the reservation was asked if special occasion and said it was both our birthdays but was not acknowledged
But overall, a lovely little restaurant, nicely furnished and spacious. Food really good, well executed and delicious

Another superb visit
Another visit to a restaurant that goes so far beyond the local Gastro pub!
The food is beautifully presented, great flavours and superb balance to give you a superb gastronomic experience.
Chef is very engaged in his craft and loves to get feedback on his superb dishes.
The mushroom amuse bouche was beyond words, truly sensational!
Each course as great as the last, biggest challenge…there were three desserts the two of us could not decide between so we had all three!
Well worth booking for weekends well in advance
Pretty confident that in the not too distant future Michelin might award at least a bib if not a star!
Toilets clean and well presented.
