Very “chefy” food. Very small portions indeed. Most flavours were good, some new combinations but should increase the amount of food on the plate. You don’t only get a Michelin rating for presentation; quantity on the plate needs to be up there, too.

The starters and puddings were excellent. Unfortunately, the three servings of halibut were rather dry (?overcooked), as were the potatoes, and the ravioli containing the bisque was very doughy. My venison was perfect.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at The Plough last night. All of the food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious.
It was a shame that we were the only people in the restaurant because it ought to be packed out.
Brian helped us choose a nice wine to accompany our feast.
We'll continue to spread the word and are very lucky to have a restaurant of this quality on our doorstep.

This was my first visit to Bowleys, although my son and daughter-in-law have been several times, so its reputation had preceded it. Really lovely experience, with food and service excellent and to the highest quality, in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Attention to detail was super. Thank you, we will return.

Very good experience overall, great to have fine dining in North Kent.
Not much to improve and our ambience score was really because it was Tuesday lunch and quite empty. When we arrived we were greeted with a "Can I help you" which sounded a little like "do you realise this is an expensive restaurant, not a pub". We weren't at our smartest and it's a minor point but it could have been a bit less challenging!

We dined at Bowley's with 2 of our friends who live in Trottiscliffe. The 2 of us live in Crawley. The food was excellent. The service was very good apart from one member of the serving staff. We do not know his name.....a tall guy. He was very stern and unsmiling and argued with one member of our party about the starter that he had ordered. The amuse bouche was a nice touch, however we were not told what was on the platter when it was served to us. It transpired that the balls were meat. We do not eat meat or poultry so our friends ate the 4 meatballs. When the platter was taken away our friend asked what the dip and the other item was. They turned out to be smoked butter and aioli. We had been asked if any of us had any allergies - but as we did not know that we would be getting an amuse bouche we had not thought to say at that point that 2 of us did not eat meat or poultry.

We were given wine and drinks menu on arrival. Ordered drinks but had to ask for a food menu as it was not offered!
The starter was delicious and just like the Instagram image. The chicken main was not well balanced and everything on the plate was very rich including the extra cauliflower side. My husband had the chocolate desert which was devine. Overall very good but still a way to go.

Exceptional. I had the Monkfish Ceviche followed by Duck Breast with Oyster Mushroom, then a dessert of Cider & Honey and Thyme crumb. All beautifully prepared and presented and tasting wonderful. The dining room and table setting is a delight. The attentive service was perfect. We finished with espresso coffees and found that three hours had passed just enjoying ourselves.

Externally it’s unprepossessing and the car park is quite small, but once inside you are warmly welcomed and treated as an honoured guest.
We chose the set lunch menu and before our meal Alex treated us to some amuse bouches which comprised a filo pastry cone filled with crab and and a cheese savoury followed by two very different breads and home made butters and an alioli like spread - scrumptious! It’s such a pleasure when the people who have prepared and cooked your food are keen to present it and engage with you.
My wife chose the smoked halibut to start and duck breast to follow and I had the vegetable spiral and the roasted brill, all of which were impeccably presented and mouth-wateringly delicious.
We were almost ready to leave, when Alex came out again and presented us with his ‘toy box’, an imaginatively made stained wooden box with a variety of different access points which housed a mixture of white and dark chocolate and strawberry treats.
A friend recommended Bowleys at the Plough and said it was very good. That was an understatement. I’ve yet to visit a better restaurant in Kent and some of London’s best could learn from Alex and the Yates family on how to delight their customers.
It was our first visit and we’ll definitely be going back.

I have already given feedback to the chef in person and by email. We were both underwhelmed with the food. My rabbit starter was uneventful, the main course of pithivier was one of the worst meals I've ever had and the mousse dessert was solid. The cod however was delicious. Perhaps it was just a bad day or perhaps the establishment is aspiring to a standard it can't meet. In any event, given the normal good reviews, it promised far more than it delivered.

It was a quiet Wednesday evening which meant we virtually had our very own maitre de ! The tastes of the food were out of this world. It wasn’t until the end that we were told that the main chef was off for the night ….you would never had known.
It’s not a cheap place but I still think it is value for money .

Hi, my friends and I all really enjoyed our lunch at Bowleys. The food was indeed both intriguing and delicious.
We were a little disappointed with the service, the waiter seemed less than interested, very little interaction and was not really able to answer queries about the menu. Despite this we had a very enjoyable time, we were pleased to meet the chef and he and the second waiter were much more sociable and welcoming. I would go back again and recommend to friends.

Great set lunch to mark our wedding anniversary. Delicious food, great value, good wine list, nice setting. Just a shame there were not more diners but it was a Tuesday lunchtime. We will definitely recommend to friends and will return again soon!

The chef is to be commended for excellent food, beautifully presented. We were particularly happy that he came to our table to discuss various gluten-free options and couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly. Likewise, the service was good. It’s a nice cosy room.
