Chef Jesikah Stolaroff brings the feeling of home together with local ingredients and refined technique to create food that fills the heart. She specializes in thoughtful, New American cuisine with a nod toward her family’s Italian roots, joined by unforgettable, innovative desserts. A native of Santa Cruz, Jesikah got her start as a teenager making incredible cakes for birthdays and weddings, before moving north to hone her craft. She studied both the science and the art of food, with degrees in Nutritional Science from UC Berkeley and Culinary Arts from the Culinary Institute of America in Napa. Jesikah cut her teeth in the Bay Area food scene, catering high-end events for the likes of Google, Pixar, and Mark Zuckerberg, and learning precision, planning, and visual flair. She practiced California Cuisine at Plum, part of the prestigious Daniel Patterson restaurant group, before taking a position as the opening sous chef at Oakland’s Michel Bistro. There, she helped the French-inspired restaurant win the Michelin Bib Gourmand award in its first year (and every year since). But opening a family restaurant has always been Jesikah’s singular dream, and so she returns to Santa Cruz to share her experience and passion with her friends and neighbors by starting Vim.
Great food & great service!
To begin COVID requirements allowed us to come down from Santa Clara county. VIM was a dream come true all things considered. There was a warm welcome Attentive service We had the Sweet Potatoe Chickpea Fritters, Slow Braised Short Rib, and the Mushroom Ragout with spaetzle! Phenomenal! Thank you team... We look forward to seeing you again
Every bite was delicious. I’ve only ever had amazing food & cocktails at VIM. Love everything about it from the staff to the service to the delicious food and cocktails.
Always love the food and the people of Vim. It is very noisy in the outside eating area because of 4 lanes of traffic on Mission St. but that is not something they can do anything about and the food and the staff more than make it worth being there. Thank you for hanging in there with us during the pandemic. It can't be easy.
O.M.G. the food is really great and inventive, desserts too. 5* Mushroom soup and 5* Short Ribs were THE BEST ! ! ! (as good / better than Prego's mushroom soup on Crystal or Seabourn's 72-hour short ribs) The place is fun too! Great & helpful waiter: Dagan! World class food in a nice, casual Santa Cruz setting. BRAVO to the Chef / Owner. ***Her Almond Cornmeal Cake with (maybe) almond paste and Roasted Nectarines (or Persimmons this time) served with Rosemary Whipped Cream IS INCREDIBLE ! ! !*** (if not on menu, try special ordering it for there or home) **WORLD CLASS FOOD**
The food was absolutely delicious!!! Can't praise the chief highly enough. The service fantastic. We were comfortable outside with the heaters and felt safe in these Covid times.
One of top 5 restaurants in Monterey bay area. The food is exceptional. The short ribs and the pork loin were as great. Brighten is a very helpful and friendly server.
Really lovely all around! I'd say the only thing I would suggest is to dim the lights a bit inside, it's so bright!!
Service was excellent, waiter was very accommodating, and the food was exceptional!
Our family had a fabulous experience @ Vim to celebrate my husband's birthday! We will definitely return for more special occasions in the future. Thank you! Roberta Lipson
Great food, very great cocktails, outstanding service. Trying to think of something less than perfect and all I can come up with is that, outdoors, you can hear the traffic on Mission. That is, until you have your first cocktail and start eating that delicious food.
The amazing food And service makes it worth sitting outside in their patio with the sound of highway 1/Mission Street traffic. This was our second visit and we will keep looking forward to many more meals.
We had a delicious meal with good service on the small outdoor dining patio.
Excellent food and even that much more in the dessert category. Highly recommend this establishment. Staff was very welcoming and engaging. Will be nice when things get back to normal and it’s buzzing with life.
Our server was exceptional; a true professional who knew exactly how often to visit our table, was knowledgeable about the food and drink pairings, and was friendly and accommodating.
great food and service, love the bartender and the waiter and the food is always excellent! Appreciate that you have vegan options also.
It was one of best dining experiences I have had in Santa Cruz for over a decade. The food was fresh, unique and delicious. We were treated with celebratory charm for our anniversary. It's a gem that hasn't had its parallel since Bittersweet opened on the west side over 20 years ago.
Our wait-staff was excellent. This place is a gem.
Jesikah and her crew provide an unparalleled level of excellence every single time we go. Her brilliant blending of flavors and textures is stunning. Every course was an event in itself, and the combination delicious. Great service, it starts at the top. Love love
The food was great. Every dish was a perfect balance that made my mouth want to keep going back for more. The waiter was wonderful. It's a pleasure to go a restaurant and have the waiter be professional, attentive and friendly. The COVID rule following was spot on. Tables were distanced and completely cleaned and de sanitized. The overall experience was very good. I would highly recommend this establishment.
What a lovely place! We felt very welcomed and pampered for our special, anniversary dinner! The service was professional and the food was excellent!
Very satisfying experience start to finish. In this time of COVID, the ventilation made us feel safe inside, and the patio outside is a nice option as well. Entrees were lovely, quite creative but not overly trendy, well prepared and presented, good portions. Dessert was heavenly- raspberry tiramisu. Service was very good. Nice selection of wines and draft beers. Highly recommended.
its always a pleasure to dine at VIM everything is wonderful , we are so lucky to have such a place to go and take break from this crazy world .... cheers Dean :)
We had a wonderful brunch on Sunday! Very unique and flavors blended to make a wonder pallet experience. The cardamom whip cream was especially delightful.
Been to Vim for dinner many times, but this was my first brunch there. It was amazing! Blood orange mimosa, burrata toast, and the lemon almond cupcake more than met my expectations. Can't wait for next time!
They did a very good job with the outside dining, plenty of unused space, felt very private if a little noisy from traffic. Waiter Brighton (?) was attentive, pleasant, efficient and personable, food was amazing and we had several dishes, don’t usually do cocktails but enjoyed trying a couple because they made a point of them being special, and they were very fun. All in all a great evening and one we hope to repeat.
We love VIM! Always so delicious, cocktails are fab, chef Jesikah & the crew are the best!
Our first time dining at VIM and we will be back!! Incredible food with such a beautiful blend of flavors and the service was impeccable. We felt very safe with all of the precautions in place. Definitely will be supporting this gem on the Westside.
Perfection. We came here last night for my daughter's 21st birthday. My family rarely goes out to eat since they (we) prefer my healthy cooking. We chose this place for the special occasion though. Everything about this place was perfect, even during these Covid days. We were seated outside on the patio and no one was within 10 feet of us. We would have sat outside even if the indoor dining was open. When we sat down we saw the menus were customized with "Happy Birthday McKenzie" It felt like they were open specifically for the event. The waiter "Reid" told my daughter her birthday drink was on him, and recommended the "Slippery Slope". It was exactly the right cocktail and SO good! They have a great beer and wine selection! We had the Potato and Shishito Frites and the Butter/Bread board. I see people complaining about the $21 for the bread, but it's not just bread and there is so much that goes into this "starter". Everything on it is homemade and made with love. Totally happy to pay for that. For dinner I had summer ratatouille which was perfect and other dishes we had were salmon and the short ribs. Not a complaint at the table. For dessert we got the German Chocolate cheesecake and Vim chocolate cake. I am not a sweets person, but couldn't stop going back for more when I just wanted one bite. It was a perfect place for a special occasion. We would have sat outside even if the indoor dining was open. I so hope this place stays!
Vim Dining & Desserts is one of my all-time favorite spots to eat in Santa Cruz. The staff is friendly and enthusiastic and the food is amazing. The menu rotates regularly and I have never had a dish that wasn't excellent. The desserts are a high point, and the wine, beer, and cocktail pairings for each menu item are spot-on. 11/10 I highly recommend.
First time to try this restaurant. Small but very nice patio for enjoying the beautiful weather. The food was thoughtful, fresh, creative! Portions were good. All the desserts were also delicious...get the chocolate cheesecake. Definitely hope to see this restaurant survive these COVID times. We will be back and tell others about this wonderful restaurant.
Service, food, drinks were all excellent. Loved the personalized menus for our birthdays, our waiter was excellent and the complimentary birthday cupcakes were delicious. Thank you for making our birthdays so special!
Our favorite place in Santa Cruz. The menu is limited at this time, but we are okay with that, we were just glad we got to dine in. Thank you again VIM!
great experience especially considering the circumstances (corona times)
The staff is amazing. The food is amazing. We had an incredible time and would highly recommend to anyone. Prices are appropriate for the quality and quantity of food.
We love the food! It is homey, delicious and very upscale comfort food. The people who work there are young and vibrant and fabulous. The chef is all of that and more! Thank you for being here to open up, again. We will be back, again and again!
Always fantastic food and service! I was sad to see more people are not out and supporting you and our local business. Hope it picks up for you all soon.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Santa Cruz. The food is stunning, the service is attentive, and theyre adapting to the current pandemic with style, common sense, and grace.
Vim never disappoints and continuously overwhelms our expectations. Food, cocktails, service, ambiance are all above and beyond. I love to cook and enjoy going out and eating food I could not imagine or create and Jessica and her team do this.
The best restaurant in Santa Cruz. The menu is always evolving and always amazing — unparalleled quality and creativity in every dish.
The meal was delicious and portions were quite generous. Loved my brown butter chicken and the creamy potatoes & sautéed kale. The pork was served with a baked bread pudding that tasted like Thanksgiving stuffing and was out of this world delicious! Desserts were fantastic as well!
Excellent service last night!!! Thank you to our server with the blonde hair in a ponytail. Loved the special touches of my name on the menu and the delicious cupcake! Staff even got a new tank for the heater for us. The fig salad was fantastic and the social distancing on the patio was perfect. Would only change the weather (ha ha) and the Mission Street traffic (impossible to change, of course). Maybe some music on the patio? I don’t think there was music. But then it’s impossible to hear when you’re all wearing masks... such a conundrum!! Thank you for making my birthday special!!!
Wonderful food and service. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town. Highly recommend the pork, short ribs, pluot salad and corn chowder. So yummy!
Excellent food as always, not cheap, but good quality and nice presentation. Ambiance leaves a bit to be desired, but mainly because of the pandemic, distancing and the inability to be with friends. Overall, a great restaurant and worth experiencing.
Loved the place. Food and service was excellent! All very fresh and seasonal
Food was excellent. I will definitely come back. Servers came to the table too often though.
The food was amazing, and so beautifully presented. I wish I had taken a picture of my plate. Each bite was incredible, the combination of herbs and spices in the lamb spiced meatballs was absolutely delectable, with greens and cucumber adding the perfect texture to my meal. The portion size was perfect. The only thing I would add is the music was not that conducive to enjoying a fine dining meal and conversation. The waiter was slightly lacking in a warm/welcoming sense, although certainly kind enough. Hands down a most delicious meal from sight to palate
Love the popcorn idea but for anyone who cannot handle high spice, not so good. I am allergic to red pepper in any form, so don't have it, but another member of our party who loves spice, said for him the almonds in the salad were too spiced and overwhelmed the other more delicate flavors. Also, the dessert menu might include something yummy that is not chocolate beside the somewhat heavy doughnut holes. Waiter was very attentive. Ribs were beyond excellent!! Pierogi's to die for. Thanks, good job.
