Rancho Tierra Rejada, Spanish for “land of worked earth,” is the original name of the 2,500 acre Paso Robles ranch that is now home to the vineyards that produce Broken Earth Wines. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, grain and cattle were the primary commodities here. It was a land of pioneer families, vaqueros, banditos, and cattle barons such as the Miller & Lux Cattle Company. Paso Robles defined the real and true west before 1900. That pioneer spirit lives on today at Broken Earth Winery.

We enjoyed conversing with our som, Richard. He is very knowledgeable and has great stories. Unfortunately we didn't have any food as our food order wasn't put in due to how busy he was with all his guests. Despite that, we still had a great experience and would go back. Enjoyed the music. The person who assisted us with our tasting was really excellent. She was knowledgeable, fun, and friendly. The presentation on the cheese platter was really nice, too. The only issue we had was that our reservation was at the opening time and the staff was still rearranging furniture from an event the night before. The loud banging and scraping of the furniture on the concrete floor made it hard to hear about the wines, ask questions, or converse comfortably for about half an hour of our time there. Otherwise, it was a great experience.

On one of the hot days, 117, the idea of sitting outside was not an appealing one. Luckily, they had seating right next to their giant doors so the AC tempered the heat. That made it a great experience. Wine and prices were good. Pizza was under cooked and over sauced, but otherwise, very happy. Sidney was great.

One would assume on a Sat. that you would have had more help on staff. The winery did not have enough people working... as I've been through it myself working in a winery. NEVER enough staff in all areas. Food was good, could have had more sauce and basil on pizza. You were also out of the 1st 2 items we tried to order and unfortunately it was only 1:00. The server we had was amazing she did everything right for being short staffed. She was awesome yay for Trudy I believe that was her name. Everything else was excellent. Thank you!
