Welcome to The Royal Oak at Wetton in the heart of the Peak District. We have been here since October 2018 working hard to give all our customers the very best experience. 

We are set in the white peaks area of the Peak District National Park where you can enjoy some of the most beautiful walks in the English countryside. We are just a cock stride from Thor’s cave and minutes away from Buxton, Bakewell,  Hulme End, Ecton, Ilam, Alstonfield, Dove Dale, Matlock and for the more adventurous less than 30 minutes drive from Alton Towers…

Our menus contains delicious real homemade dishes that have been specially prepared in our own kitchen for you to enjoy. Just perfect before, between or after a long walk. So if you are just visiting or staying in the area then pop in and you won’t be disappointed. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Frequently Asked Questions
We have a designated area for dogs with limited capacity. We are sorry however we can not guarantee tables for guests inside that have a dog, however we will do our best to accommodate. We do however welcome dogs in the beer garden and in the under cover dining section. We also request that you keep your dog with you and that you ensure that they are quiet to ensure the comfort of all our other guests that are dining with us.
Yes we do, occasionally we will have options available in our menus. However, to avoid disappointment we kindly ask that you let us know prior to visiting us so that we can ensure we have something available for you.

Excellent experience at this wonderful family run pub, the customer service was second to non and the food was amazing, fresh and great value. We stayed in the accommodation here for 2 nights and had all our meals here also which I would totally recommend to everyone. Overall, a fantastic place, run by fantastic friendly people.

Lovely staff Very obliging Great food Limited menu but a reasonable choice for everyone Have been twice so far during our holiday and will be going again It would be nice if they had a specials board for a bit more variety if visiting more than once

Thank you for your kind words, it has been a real pleasure looking after you. We take on board regarding more variety and will look into adding our special board back on. However, due to our very small kitchen sometimes it is difficult to add more choices on as everything is homemade in our own kitchen. Having said that we will be offering homemade beef chilli con carne on this evenings menu served with rice, nachos sour cream, guacamole & tomato salsa. A very rustic pub with a very warm welcome. The people running this place were friendly and welcoming. They could not have done more to make our visit enjoyable. We thank you for our first festive lunch of the season, complete with tablecloth and Christmas crackers and the roaring fire. even the car park attendant was helpful advising of ice patches as it was a cold and rainy day on the roads.

Great country pub across from our digs. Staff were friendly and although there had been a hiccup on the first evening, it was soon rectified. My food was excellent, but one of my friend's veg dishes was not quite up to par. A warm welcome after a long day walking - just what the doctor ordered!

Lovely Valentines evening meal. Very welcoming immediately on walking through the door - nicely lit, cosy warm and friendly reception at the bar. It’s also great to find a pub that serves both the Titanic Plum Porter and the Titanic Plum Gin. Loved the black pudding fritter starter & the fillet steak and the sticky chocolate & pomegranate torte was delicious. It was certainly well worth the 50 min drive from Derby to eat at this fantastic pub - we’ll be going back for sure.

Walking into a candlelit room with a fire burning in the corner and Christmas decorations everywhere made for a wonderful festive meal! The barman was extremely welcoming and the service was excellent. The chips and steak and ale pie were spot on. A mulled wine to finish was the perfect end to a cosy evening. Thank you.

We went for a meal on the first night of our holiday at a nearby self catering cottage. We had forgotten to pack the milk so we also asked if we could buy a pint from the pub. Apparently it was a bit low so the barman went to his house and brought a pint from his fridge. How is that for service? Definitely 5 star.

What a wonderful warm welcome on a wet Wednesday lunchtime. We had lunch at the Royal Oak before a walk and all the staff were very welcoming and the pub had a very friendly atmosphere. I had a good scampi (can't say much more about a scampi) and my husband had the homemade hotpot which was highly recommended by the waitress. He was not disappointed, it was delicious. We would certainly return if in the area.

We found the Royal Oak very cosy The menu had a good selection Our meals were absolutely delicious The owners are very friendly and welcoming. Our grandson said the homemade chocolate fudge cake was the best he’s had (and he has tried a few). I would definitely recommend it.

I really enjoyed the fish pie. My friend had roast beef dinner, and commented that he would have liked more beef (he had two thin slices). He also didn’t like the veg, as the carrots were al dente, but I like my veg a bit crunchy. Overall it was really nice.

Lovely little place. Went to have a beef roast but they had sold out. Had Ribeye instead (with all the 'trimmings '). It was one of the best steaks I have had. Asked for rare and it was cooked to perfection. My wife is a vegetarian and the veg loaf was excellent as well. Beer great and lovely dessert. Highly recommend.

We've been here twice over the summer while camping nearby, nice quiet place to eat outside in the week. There was a mix up with my order so they cooked me a whole new meal from scratch! Genuine home cooked food, very polite waitress and good service all round (sorry the chef had to work late!).

Really good experience. Lots of improvements to the pub over recent years without loosing its cosy charm! Very friendly greeting & service. Unfortunately had run out of cheese board however, all food served was really good. Will be back when next in the area.

Lovely pub in a pretty location. Menu was a bit limited when we arrived due to being busy earlier in the day but at least the food was freshly prepared. Good choice of local ales and very friendly service.

Really good visit to the pub. Service a bit slow but understandable as it has been a while since it was open so pub having to find new ways of looking after the customer because of the pandemic. Can't wait to visit again as the food was good and staff friendly.

Plus we only use the very best of ingredients and our prices reflect this. Its a shame you feel this way about a small charge for sauce. 50p for a ketchup not only covers the sauce but also service. Requested child seat (2yr old) - not setup. Meals slightly bland (meat pie on side of dry) & children's meal of sausage (deep fried & very thin), chips & peas or beans - maybe a choice of mashed potatoes. Ice creams were shop bought (probably multi packs). Atmosphere in pub was fine & service was good from all staff members.

Hello, thanks for taking time to leave your feedback. I am sorry your childs high chair was not put out and ready for you. I wasn't around as i was taking a day off. I have spoken to your server and he apologises for not ensuring your high chair was put out for you. However, he assures me he allocated you a high chair soon after your arrival and certainly before your meals arrived. It's difficult to comment on the quality of the meals you were served as i wasn't there. But can i ask if you raised your concerns at the time? I was informed that your plates were returned empty and when asked if everything was ok, you replied yes. We are able to fix issues at the time however is difficult after the event. Regarding the steak and ale pie i am very surprised that it was dry but i will speak to the kitchen as its not the feedback i would expect as its our signiture dish and is very popular. You could have asked for some extra steak & ale gravy and the kitchen could have accommodated no problem at all. To confirm, our icecreams are supplied in bulk direct from our suppliers and certainly not shop bought. These are not available to the general public and are not from a multipack. Multipack items can not be sold separately. We are a family run pub and take all feedback seriously but do request that issues are bought to your servers attention at the time as we are unable to do anything afterwards. That being said i am passionate about my business and ensuring that all my girsts leave happy and i am disappointed that your visit wasn't to our usual standards and for that i can offer you 25% off your next visit as a goodwill gesture. I do hope you can give us another chance and i am sure you won't be disappointed. Just ask for me and i can apply your discount. Thanks Diane

Lovely traditional pub,good atmosphere and good value food. Wished fish and chips or scampi and chips had been on menu.
