Have given a low mark on the food because we ordered the beef roast and the food was lukewarm at best served on a cold plate. We have dined at the Nelson before but always ordered from the menu when the food was served hot. We will probably return but will definitely not be ordering a roast again.

Family visit with my partner, daughter, her husband and two young children. First time for some years that I’d been in and what a treat! Log fire going, warm and cosy and plenty of people in. Menu had ample choice and the food when it arrived was really great and hot. Staff couldn’t have been more attentive and helpful. Fabulous place with plenty of trad beers too!

Always good food and friendly service, nice selection of beers too. Only small criticism was on the Sunday Roast, if you are going to offer a Gluten Free option, don’t just take off the Yorkshire pudding! They are just as easy to make as ‘normal’ Yorkshires or even bought it would be preferable to no Yorkshire with your roast beef

The table roomy and next to a Living Flame fire, which looked very real. The service was good, but the meal a little disappointing. I had chicken Roast Dinner, but no stuffing balls, and roast spuds non exsistent. It would be useful to offer a small jug if gravy too, as my plate had hardly any. Overall quite nice and tasty, but have had better. The staff were attentive. The segments left in the bottom of the glass if wine, which entered my mouth as I drank it, was not nice, and should not happen...for what we are expected to pay now for wine.. a complinentary voucher should have been offered.

Food prices now high but guess this is due to current circumstances which is driving decent places towards closure as less & less people will just drop in. It's already noticeable as there were very few people in here all lunchtime. Such a shame. A vicious circle with no sign of abating any time soon. But wish you well as staff are always friendly.

Nice and warm environment, second time eating in the last month, ordered same meals as last time. All ok except mushroom wellington was half the size of the one before and with less veg, looked like a starter, wife was still hungry.

Not a particular criticism of the Nelson, but pub food has risen by way more than the rates of inflation in the years since covid, and although there are some justifying factors, the cost of eating out is becoming prohibitive for lots of people. I don’t have any bright ideas, we like the place and will continue to visit.

The food is always excellent in the Nelson.
We both had fish & chips.
Ambience wasn’t great this time as a very drunk young lady was very loud.
Tables are a bit rickety/ move when leaning / eating on them. This has been the last 2 visits.
Staff always lovely & friendly & it feels very clean!

We had bit of a wonky table when eating. Desserts were a bit disappointing as we are chocoholics and apart from choc ice cream was nothing that we wanted to eat.
