We're both from out of town and were meeting for lunch. I decided on The Fig because of it's uniqueness, reviews and independence. It did not disappoint. We sat outside in the courtyard, despite it being October as it was unseasonably mild. The menu was excellent with so many good choices. We had a mixture of tapas, eggs florentine and truffle/parmesan fries. There was a slight mix up with the order and the staff bent over backwards to make sure everything was alright. The food was delicious and the staff very attentive and friendly. I would certainly go back next time I'm in town and would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

It’s clear they have staffing problems as they were turning walk-ins away when they had loads of tables. Food and service was good, but by the time we were 10 mins into our meal the very small restaurant was empty, which does not make for a great experience. A shame cos it put a dampener on the evening. We could have sat at home on our own and saved the money!!

Excellent food, pleasant situation, great service from attentive staff. Two very minor grumbles: (1) hot drink (mocha) not really hot enough and (2) it was a chilly day and with customers going in and out, we kept getting a blast of cold air and never really got warm enough. Would prefer to sit upstairs next time (maybe, although I haven’t seen upstairs… )

I had a lovely evening meal a few months ago but was somewhat disappointed with my meal this time. I had not realised that you had stopped serving lunch so my fault for not checking. I used to come often for lunch but admittedly that was a few years ago. My friend had the fish cake and she was quite happy with it but I had the Buddah bowl. The rice had been microwaved for too long as had the very chewy chicken pieces! I ate some of it and when the waitress took my plate away she did ask my opinion ( seeing I hadn’t eaten it all). I simply told her I would not choose it again. I suspect you do a very nice afternoon tea so perhaps that might be a better choice in future!

Unfortunately we waited for about 3/4 hour for our food to be served. One of our party had only one hour to spare so had to rush eating her food which spoilt it for the rest of us. It would have been appreciated had the waitress come to the table to apologise for the delay instead of which I had to go to ask what was happening. It won't put us off returning as I hope this isn't the norm. The food itself was well presented and very tasty and a good atmosphere in the restaurant.

The day we visited there had been a problem with ordering resulting in 60% of the (limited) menu being unavailable. What was served was not well cooked. Two other tables complained in our hearing. The service was pleasant but the bathroom was not clean. Neither I nor my guests will visit again

We both enjoyed our pre theatre brunch at the Fig. Some early confusion because my partner’s menu only had the vegan options in the folder- once she had the full menu she found something to order.
She had the haddock risotto and I had the Big Dane with fries and salad. All was excellent. Delicious fig cream and meringue to follow.

Having never been the The Fig before my family and I were so impressed with the food, the atmosphere and the excellent service. We each ordered different things that were all delicious. Food was bland and very uninteresting. For the price I would have expected more on the plate, a garnish, bit if veg, something crispy anything. But all I had was a bland fishcake, watery tasteless sauce which drowned the mushy spinach and a rock hard poached egg £14. Won't be back.

We were so disappointed as while everyone around us got their food, it took 4 requests and nearly 50 mins for our food to come - apparently the result of mix up between the front of house & kitchen. Food when it finally came was ok but I think we would still have been waiting as staff didn’t pick up that our food had been forgotten, their response to the mix up wasn’t great. Such a shame ☹️

Lovely meal and staff really friendly. My only criticism was that we ordered 6 tapas in anticipation of ordering more, and when we went to order more at 830pm they advised that the kitchen had turned off everything and started cleaning down, and minutes later further tapas came out for another table which would have required a frier and heating equipment. Seemed disappointing as paying customers, particularly for a tapas restaurant where the ethos is gradual eating. We will be back but will be mindful of ordering more in the first instance

Always love visiting The Fig! The staff are very welcoming and friendly and are there to help you with any enquiries about the menu and drinks without hesitation. Food is always excellent and the courtyard outside is such a great place to sit and have a cocktail or two.

Serving drinks that aren’t complete eg cocktails with half the ingredients and not informing us they don’t have ingredients and still wanting to charge ( not good) this should have been stated before ordering , there was only two tables of dinners when we arrived and service was very slow , food was ok but will not be returning ! Very disappointing .

Our experience was mainly ruined by the wait staff being incompetent and either not realising or not caring that we could hear everything they were saying when at the bar. One girl said “I can’t believe she’s ordered the hardest cocktail on the menu, I have no idea how to make it, I’m gunna look on BBC good food website”. The cocktail was so badly made it was undrinkable. The kitchen staff had their music on full blast and were singing along, completely ruining the ambience and music that was playing in the restaurant. We could see other people getting bored waiting for staff to come and take their plates or ask them if they wanted pudding so ended up having to come inside to pay. The staff were just young and untrained. Don’t have a cocktail menu if your staff aren’t training to make them? The food was the best bit to be honest and some of the tapas dishes were lovely but the salt and pepper chicken wings were only just cooked and didn’t taste seasoned on the inside and perhaps were cooked from frozen, couldn’t eat those either. Won’t be returning to this restaurant.

The food was very tasty and well presented. The light, however is lacking in the indoor area, but fine under the outdoor roofing.

Lovely place to eat on a summer evening in town. Menu has errors (eg lime, instead of lamb!), two mains were not available or the wine we wanted. However, the wine suggested as an alternative was fine. The radicchio was difficult to deal with as it was all in one piece and very hard to cut. It would be good if the menu and the website could corrected.
