Since 1986 The Balance Rock Inn has been offering luxury accommodations for the summer season in Bar Harbor. The original restaurant began in 1998 serving prix fixe dinner in our breakfast room. Although popular, we wanted to offer a service to complement the hotel. The Veranda Bar now offers innovative cocktails and food with an unparalleled view of Frenchman’s Bay. We present a seasonal cocktail menu with only fresh made mixers, syrups, and infusions. Product local to New England is the main inspiration in the kitchen. Our menu changes weekly depending on the ingredients local farmers have to offer. Check out our “partners” page for more information on the farms we source from.

Frequently Asked Questions- Where do we park?
- The Inn parking is limited and reserved for guests of the hotel. Guests of the Veranda can find public parking at the end of Albert Mdws, next door to the Inn
- What is the dress code?
- Most guests like to dress smart or business casual.
- How do I receive credit for my table deposit.
- All reservation deposits are refunded directly to the credit card on file once seated. The refund will not show on your dinner bill.
- Why can't we book a table of 9 guests or more online?
- We have limited seating in our dining room and only a few tables that can accommodate larger parties. We ask for tables of 9 or more guests to please reserve by phone.

We didn't have a great start here (we arrived a little early for our reservation and could not find anyone at the hostess stand, nor get anyone to help us for quite a while and it was confusing to know where we were supposed to be given that no one was at the hostess stand; when we did get someone to help, the dining room wasn't yet open so they sent us to the bar where the bartender barely deigned to serve us), but it got much better once we were seated. Our waiter was excellent and the food was superb.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at The Veranda. We stayed two nights at Balance Rock Inn and really liked the well appointed tables at The Veranda. No detail was left unnoticed! The taste at the beginning as well as at the end of our meal from the Chef was lovely. And our server was great.

We had dinner as an early birthday celebration and we were beyond happy and grateful that we did so!
The food was outstanding (some of the best food we have had since we have been in Maine). Everything we ate was delicious and plates exceptionally. Our drinks were also fantastic, spot on for flavor and presentation, (one of the best mezcal drinks I’ve ever experienced). The atmosphere was exceptional, gorgeous view, clean interior, perfect lighting. 10/10
We did run out of water on the table, but it’s nothing to really complain about.

Our meal was lovely. We had a large party and they did a great job. Definitely sit outside in the summer if you can. The inside feels more like a late fall/winter kind of setting. Although indoors has live music (we went on a weekend) if you would prefer that. Cocktails, food all so good.

Wonderful dining experience at The Veranda! We appreciated the inventive cuisine and thoughtful presentation from the bread course all the way to dessert. It was a rainy foggy evening but the veranda was warm, welcoming and thoroughly enjoyable. We stuck around after dinner for a delightful piano player in the lounge - Roberta was so wonderful and truly ended the night on such a fun, positive note. Best dinner/night out on the island in our two week stay hands down!

Jeremy is incredible. We’ve had the good fortune to have him accompany us two years in a row on our wedding anniversary. He makes the entire experience very special and classy. He’s a true gem! I rated the food a 7 because the steak was extremely expensive but very fatty and tough. Happy to pay good money for steak, but when it’s the most expensive thing on the menu, you expect it to be more like filet Mignon. It was worth the try and everything else was incredible, as always. See you next anniversary! Oh, by the way, thank you again for the personalized anniversary menus. That made my wife feel very special!

We arrived a little early and we’re directed to the lounge to get a beverage. We waited at least ten minutes before anyone took our order. When our drinks were served we did not get a cocktail napkin and could not set our drinks down on the wood furniture. Finally, we were taken to our table after our reservation time.
The server for the tables on either side of us explained the menu to his diners, but our server did not do as well. Fortunately, we could hear our neighbors’ explanations.
The duck was very good, but the appetizers and desserts were pretty tasteless.
This is a nice restaurant trying to be elegant, but falls a little short.

Since it's clear you're striving for excellence I'll pick but one nit: being round-handled and slim the "flatware" requires some attention to use. A little too unique. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening with you! We are already planning to make it an annual event. Your staff is extraordinary, warm and welcoming. Our party of three included a former baker, a former server, and a timid elder who had not had an inside meal since July 2021. All of us love to eat.

The food got a 9/10 only because the drinks didn't have a sub category. Loved the food, it was just a tad pricey for the entree portions. The bread was amazing and all the gels, emulsions and sauces were so innovative and well textured. The drinks were mild in flavor, not weak in the pour, just not anything to wow. But the food was phenomenal.

We were guests at the hotel and saved this for the last meal of our trip. We didn’t really know what to expect as the restaurant wasn’t even mentioned in the two different Maine/Acadia guidebooks we had read. We were initially disappointed when we didn’t get the requested outdoor table we hoped for. Everything changed once the meal began. The food was outstanding. We eat at lots of high end restaurants and have pretty high standards. As we savored each course we came to the conclusion that this was one of the best meals we have ever had, anywhere. Each dish had some unique and delicious flavor we hadn’t experienced before. We would definitely return if ever in the area again.

Hard to say what was better ... the food or Jeremy!
All around an amazing experience to have our anniversary dinner at The Veranda! Needless to say the food was excellent, the service was top notch, and the location is beautiful. Having a menu titled specially for our anniversary was a wonderful surprise and greatly appreciated. It will be framed and hung next to other special memories from our trip.
The only drawback would be having a dog walking through the middle of our finest dining experience since our wedding 20 years ago. Although we are dog lovers and recognize that Bar Harbor is extremely dog-friendly we would suggest the dining area be a no-go during dinner where 5 courses are being served. Please know that this does not outweigh the positive aspects of the experience.

The hostess offered me a blanket. The waiter was joyful, kind, knowledgable, passionate, and calm. The setting was serene, the view amazing, and the food was exceptional.
Halfway through the dinner we decided, we had to count this as our 10 year anniversary dinner. (Our plans to France had been delayed due to Covid.) It was just that special.

Outstanding. Loved everything about The Veranda from the welcome, the magician bartenders creations, our server and his suggestions, the view, the cozy atmosphere even the tablecloths. Unusual and delicious preparations. Wine list a bit too expensive. Expect to spend $100+ pp and have CC charged to reserve, but my birthday celebration there was beyond expectations and we are very experienced diners. Thank you…we have recommended it to everyone!
