Since 1986 The Balance Rock Inn has been offering luxury accommodations for the summer season in Bar Harbor. The original restaurant began in 1998 serving prix fixe dinner in our breakfast room. Although popular, we wanted to offer a service to complement the hotel. The Veranda Bar now offers innovative cocktails and food with an unparalleled view of Frenchman’s Bay. We present a seasonal cocktail menu with only fresh made mixers, syrups, and infusions. Product local to New England is the main inspiration in the kitchen. Our menu changes weekly depending on the ingredients local farmers have to offer. Check out our “partners” page for more information on the farms we source from.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Inn parking is limited and reserved for guests of the hotel. Guests of the Veranda can find public parking at the end of Albert Mdws, next door to the Inn
Most guests like to dress smart or business casual.
All reservation deposits are refunded directly to the credit card on file once seated. The refund will not show on your dinner bill.
We have limited seating in our dining room and only a few tables that can accommodate larger parties. We ask for tables of 9 or more guests to please reserve by phone.

Typically excellent food. We have eaten there several times. Last night food was lacking. Black rice which should have been hot was cold. Vegetables were undercooked. Scallops were cooked well but barely warm when they were served.

Excellent experience! The only exception was the thermostat setting for the inside dining room. It was cold out this evening. It seemed like the room was warm upon arrival but over the course of time it got chilly. Perhaps the cold air from the outside dining area infiltrated. I mentioned it to the server’s assistant and she accommodated me with a blanket. The only other thing that we have experienced over the years is the tight seating inside. It is difficult to have a conversation without enlightening fellow diners. On this night a couple seated three tables away was having an argument for a good period of time. Clearly no one is to blame for their breach of character as we cannot always predict human behavior but perhaps this “soft-meant” comment might illicit a dynamic exploration into how we perceive an intimate dining experience-reimagined! As always, Jeremy our server was excellent.

We didn't have a great start here (we arrived a little early for our reservation and could not find anyone at the hostess stand, nor get anyone to help us for quite a while and it was confusing to know where we were supposed to be given that no one was at the hostess stand; when we did get someone to help, the dining room wasn't yet open so they sent us to the bar where the bartender barely deigned to serve us), but it got much better once we were seated. Our waiter was excellent and the food was superb.

We had dinner as an early birthday celebration and we were beyond happy and grateful that we did so! The food was outstanding (some of the best food we have had since we have been in Maine). Everything we ate was delicious and plates exceptionally. Our drinks were also fantastic, spot on for flavor and presentation, (one of the best mezcal drinks I’ve ever experienced). The atmosphere was exceptional, gorgeous view, clean interior, perfect lighting. 10/10 We did run out of water on the table, but it’s nothing to really complain about. Wonderful dining experience at The Veranda! We appreciated the inventive cuisine and thoughtful presentation from the bread course all the way to dessert. It was a rainy foggy evening but the veranda was warm, welcoming and thoroughly enjoyable. We stuck around after dinner for a delightful piano player in the lounge - Roberta was so wonderful and truly ended the night on such a fun, positive note. Best dinner/night out on the island in our two week stay hands down!

Jeremy is incredible. We’ve had the good fortune to have him accompany us two years in a row on our wedding anniversary. He makes the entire experience very special and classy. He’s a true gem! I rated the food a 7 because the steak was extremely expensive but very fatty and tough. Happy to pay good money for steak, but when it’s the most expensive thing on the menu, you expect it to be more like filet Mignon. It was worth the try and everything else was incredible, as always. See you next anniversary! Oh, by the way, thank you again for the personalized anniversary menus. That made my wife feel very special!

The staff at Veranda went above and beyond to make our experience memorable for our anniversary! The food was excellent and ambience was perfect. Our server Jeremy was awesome! He was able to answer any question we had and really helped to explained what paired well with our wine to meal selections. We will definitely be going back to the Veranda when we visit Bar Harbor again!

The greeter set the tone and the rest was perfect all around. Waite staff, cocktails (pear something :)) and food/presentation was fabulous. We both had scallops. Loved the whipped herbed butter server on the small rock. Attention to every detail did not go unnoticed.

We arrived a little early and we’re directed to the lounge to get a beverage. We waited at least ten minutes before anyone took our order. When our drinks were served we did not get a cocktail napkin and could not set our drinks down on the wood furniture. Finally, we were taken to our table after our reservation time. The server for the tables on either side of us explained the menu to his diners, but our server did not do as well. Fortunately, we could hear our neighbors’ explanations. The duck was very good, but the appetizers and desserts were pretty tasteless. This is a nice restaurant trying to be elegant, but falls a little short.

I appreciated the restaurant’s website explaining what to expect. Such as where to park, menu, dress suggestions, and reservations are recommended. We were not disappointed! The service was warm and friendly. The waiter made recommendations based on our interests. High quality food. I am extremely picky eating scallops, I was amazed! Cooked to perfection! We enjoyed our entire meal.

Everything was perfect. On a cold a rainy evening, it was warm, comfortable, quiet and relaxing. A surprise was in each dinner course. Service was prompt, but not pressing. Setting, food, service, all excellent. Prices were appropriate for the value received. I would not miss this when we return.

We had a great experience. We came to Acadia to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary, and went to The Veranda on the day. The staff were excellent and the restaurant personalized our menus for the anniversary. These subtle touches -- along with excellent food, wine and cocktails -- made for an amazing night!

Since it's clear you're striving for excellence I'll pick but one nit: being round-handled and slim the "flatware" requires some attention to use. A little too unique. Otherwise, all staff interactions - particularly with our server, Jeremy - were enjoyable, the food was great, the ambiance was pleasing, and our personalized menu was a nice touch. A memorable experience!

Great fine dining at the Balance Rock inn. The food is outstanding and creative. The service is top notch. Wine and cocktails excellent. The ambiance is also great with a cozy inviting dining room. Bar to the side is interesting with copper bar tools. Highly recommend for a fine dining experience in Bar Harbor.
