Very disappointing We booked a table for 8.30 on Wednesday evening. When we arrived we were told that the kitchen was closed and our booking would not be honoured. A member of staff said if we did stay we would not get food until 10.30. The staff seemed rushed off their feet and unable to cope with customers waiting for food. There clearly seems to be a problem with their booking system and we will not be returning. Luckily the Bird in Hand made room for us and I was told by a waitress there that we were the fourth lot of customers to come in after being let down by the Jolly Sailor.

Well won’t be rushing back, pre booked table not set took 1 yes 1 and HALF just to get starters. They weren’t busy asked serval times very poor communication. We had to give up it was so painful!

My meal was very good; my husband’s meal mediocre. We had to wait a very long time between first & second course. My husband described the pub as “Tatty”; could do with some TLC especially ladies loo which was not very clean.

Took a while to be seated and then we were sat at the table for a while waiting for someone to take our order. In the end I had to get up and walk towards the waitress to let her know that we were ready to order. Food came out quite quickly after that but not even halfway through eating my meal the waitress came up to our table and asked us to pay whilst eating which was rude and unnecessary. Other people around us were waiting a while to pay for their order after eating so it was strange that we were singled out and made to pay before we had even finished. Everything else was perfect and I would definitely visit again.

Food was not great, scampi soggy, chips mushy inside, ordered a brie and cranberry panini was delivered a brie cranberry and bacon baguette.... couldn't be bothered to queue and complain. Wanted to give them the benefit as just starting back up but overall wouldn't go back for food.... yet.

Outside eating area had a general air of scruffiness with an appearance of being “tired”The menus handed to us were mere sheets of printed paper, obviously having been previously well thumbed. Indeed one of the four given to us was blurred and verging on being illegible. Two items on menus proved unavailable. Generally disappointed in this pub, made a special journey to visit, considering it’s past reputation of being good. Don’t think there will be a “next” time as we were on holiday. Parking concession for customers was good.

Food: olives didn't look very appetising (small and dry- looking) and then surprised to find they were hot. Why? Not as expected - I.e. plump and juicy and room temperature. Rest of food good. Service ok but not great. Asked to pay when ordering but no explanation as to why, and because it was paid, we were never asked if we'd like more drinks or dessert - not the best for your sales opportunities. It generally felt it had gone down hill since I was there last

No organisation. Had to wait 45mins just to order a drink after being told to just sit anywhere even though we had booked and then another 15mins for them to arrive after ordering. Food was OK once finally received. Won't be rushing back Use to be alot better.

Food was cold, chicken in ny salad was very dry and bacon was undercooked. My partners fish was extremely pale and chips were cold. There were flies flying around inside the bar as we were eating (maybe due to the fact that glasses weren't cleared). Paid for pudding and had to wait 50 minutes for it to come out, after asking for it again. Overall an extremely poor experience and it is unlikely we will be returning.

First experience of dinning out for Christmas dinner, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Food was amazing and plenty of it, service was great , It wasn’t rushed giving a chance to digest everything and relax. The staff were pleasant and helpful. There was only one thing that we felt could have been better, it was the heating, it was very cold and people were dinning with coats on. If the place was warmer it would have been wonderful.

Eating at an outside table on a cold day is never so good as an inside one, but that’s Covid! The food and drinks were what we expected and service, given the circumstances , was prompt and there was probably a smile behind the mask. Had to ask for a another black coffee as it was not up to scratch but the replacement was brought out immediately and with an apology.

There was no point doing a on line booking 3 days in advance because no one looked at it. we pre ordered afternoon tea at 3.00pm but when we arrived we were told after noon teas not served in summer and kitchen closed at 3.00. someone should of looked at this and rang us before really really disappointed

Waited an hour and 15 minutes for our food. Went to go and check where it was & they hadn’t actually put the order through properly. No apology. The order came, I had no salad or sauce in my burger so it was extremely dry. The place was in the perfect setting for where we stayed but wouldn’t come back for the reasons above.

Usually a massive fan. Food was great but service was non-chalent and gave the attitude of not actually caring. Service was also slow and haphazard. There's only so many times you can ask for a specific condiment to each member of staff and for nothing to back to us. There were also dirty glasses on the table. Usually a massive fan, but felt let down.

As soon as we walked in they told us the kitchen had just closed. We were relieved as the atmosphere was dead and staff appeared unwelcoming - presumably as they wanted to shut early. Not a problem just shouldn't have been able to book a table in first place

Was nervous about visiting due to previous posts absolutely nothing to worry about. We were bought a voucher for Xmas decided at the start of lockdown easing to use it to celebrate our wedding anniversary which happened to be a Wednesday was able to use it during eat out to help out. There was a very good menu selection customer service was excellent owner came over and spoke to us personally. Will definitely visit again and highly recommend.

We were warmly greeted and served by Charlotte for the evening, the service was fantastic throughout our visit and the food was very enjoyable so compliments to the chef, we would highly recommend the Jolly Sailer as it was relaxed dining with all expectations exceeded and plan to return again very soon.

I booked the Jolly Sailor to meet family and to take advantage of the Monday to Wednesday, Eat Out to Help Out Scheme. First off on entry to the pub it was clear that there were no Covid safety measures in place. No hand sanitizer at the door, the bar man had his nose sticking out of his mask, the tables were dirty and there were no social distancing measures in place at all. I felt quite uncomfortable. We ordered food of off a specific 'Monday - Wednesday' menu, once the food arrived it was obvious that the portions had been made quite significantly smaller, maybe this was for them to also take advantage of the government scheme and make more money? Overall a bit of a shit show, will not return.

It was the eat out to help out deal so we cannot complain but I'm glad we did not have to pay full price for this meal. The wait for our average food was very long, in fact we think they forgot our order as after waiting for almost an hour and then asking it came out quite quickly. Staff were apologetic for this and said they were very busy and short staffed. I ordered fish & chips which it said came with mushy peas but they were garden peas. We sat inside and the worst thing was there were quite a lot of flies around, not sure why, but it didnt exactly instil us with confidence re the hygiene of the place and I wont be returning anytime soon. I am sorry as it's such a lovely location.

We went for lunch on Friday, turned up and had to wait to tell someone we had booked a table. We were told they were missing a few things from the menu, which was fine we ordered and food was very nice. We had scampi and steak & ale pie. More and more people came in and were told what was missing from the menu, it actually got so bad it was easier to say what they did have rather than what they didn’t! We felt sorry for the 2 girls behind the bar as it just felt they were having to take the brunt for the lack of food available. We were lucky to order when we did. Overall it was a nice experience.

Everything was ok. Just a shame we had to return are pudding as it had a hair actually in the sticky toffee pudding, wanted quiche but wasn’t told it wasn’t In stock till I asked if it came cold or hot and told they weren’t serving hot drinks but they were making hot drinks at the time, Other then that the platters were lovely and perfect value of money and a lovely Scenery, I will be back again

Service tbh was pretty abnissal, although shown to seat, we had to ask staff if we had to order at bar or table service. Although table service we waited and to wait for our drinks, then asked twice if ordered food. Had to wait and wait for the bill. My fruend had fish in batter and part if it was hard, apparently the chef said that's normal and can't tell how it will cook, well in my 50+ years that's the first I've ever heard. Don't think I'll be going back for food, maybe a drink by the river on a nice sunny day. Need to get yr act in order if you want customers to come!

The staff were very attentive and kindly gave my husband a free pint of beer, having picked up that it was his birthday. My chicken korma was lovely but there wasn’t any korma in it at all. It wasn’t just mild, I think the korma had been left out completely. However, it was melt in the mouth so I didn’t complain. One of our party had a coronation chicken jacket potato but was disappointed that the filling was cold. She wasn’t sure if that’s par for the course, so she didn’t say anything. One of our party asked for salt and sauce with her meal and was a bit frustrated that drinks orders and deliveries were concentrated on whilst she was still waiting and well through her meal before they came. The first two dessert choices were unavailable so we had to take third choice. That said, we did have a lovely time and were allowed to move our tables around to suit us. I appreciate that the restaurant is newly re-opened so it’s early days for the busy staff to get used to everything. We were asked a few times if everything was good and we said yes because overall everything was great. This review is nit picking but you did ask!

Unfortunately the service and cleanliness of the jolly sailor has gone downhill, such a beautiful location, but the pub cleanliness isn’t on par with the location, or what it used to be. The beer selection is also in need of review. Foster/Heineken with a poor selection of ipa’s. The team are polite just young and untrained.

We booked a table but we never stayed to eat.The pub was dirty there were tables that hadn’t been cleared plates piled up everywhere.We could see into the kitchen and that wasn’t a pleasant sight either.I suggest that if they want to attract customers they need to have a deep clean and make everything more appealing as it stands at the minute it’s a terrible place…..definitely won’t be going back.

I like that pub a lot, haven’t been for long time. In the main place by the bar it was nice atmosphere as there was fire on and it was very cosy. I understand that it’s pub and you order food at the bar , but I thought after you finished the staff could al least pick the plates and notify kitchen that we are ready for dessert, as I had to go to the bar and ask for dessert and after that we were waiting 30 minutes:( The place was quite messy as I think they took Christmas decor out and there were pine needles everywhere and sticky tables. Food wasn’t great , one of us had burger which was quite bland and served in brioche bun which we were not aware I think you should have choice here , the chips were vert nice though:) The dessert o dear , we ordered sticky toffee pudding and I don’t think it was it as I got piece of sponge with apples underneath and kinda caramel sauce and ice cream were like you would have frozen ice through it not great :( And we had cheesecake which again I don’t think had any cheese in it ,it was like some kind mix I can’t even describe it , not nice at all , we didn’t eat it :( I was quite disappointed as I had good meals there before. The location is lovely by the river and we probably will visit only for drinks in the summer.

Had booked for Sunday lunch and completed a 20 mile cycle ride to get there as a day out - asked about food when we arrived and were told that there was no Sunday menu/food today. Website says excellent selection of local ales and ciders - only local (ish) drink on tap was Thatchers - disappointing. Looked at the main food menu - disappointing, generic selection not making the most of local ingredients and suppliers. Also very overpriced - £11.95 for halloumi and chips! Staff were not very welcoming and atmosphere was not great. Best feature is the riverside location and attractive building when viewed from the riverside.

The fact a table was booked didn’t seem to make any difference - this wasn’t checked and I was told I could sit at any available seat. Whilst the staff were very friendly, the process of ordering & paying for food/drink was very poor and time consuming. Fantastic setting but would recommend they invest in an ordering/payment app that customers can use.

Pub was very cold. No heating on a cold and rainy day. The food was ok and served quickly. This is a pub which enjoys a large clientele during the summer months but on s cold and wet early April it was cold and empty.

We booked in advance - no room in covered conservatory - had to sit inside. There were 2 lovely old fireplaces but no fires lit as they were waiting for a wood delivery! Very cold so had to keep our coats on! 3 of the lunch courses were unavailable- soup, steak pie & mushrooms on toast . Coffee was not good. Jacket potatoes came with cheese melted all over the non cheese order & cold cheese on the ‘with’ cheese order! 2 ladies toilets- one no toilet paper & the other not flushing but no Out of Order sign on it. Not expensive but not worth it! Customers should go to Bird in Hand up the road instead!!!

My friend was concerned that there wasn’t table service for ordering. Also told they weren’t serving coffee until lunch was over. Crazy as that was over an hour wait, complained and lady dealt with it very efficiently, bar staff hadn’t realised we had already eaten thought we just wanted coffee. Maybe question should have been asked to avoid the confusion.

The Jolly Sailor was shut when my party arrived to celebrate my daughter's birthday. A sign was taped to the door stating Closed Tuesday Evening. Having made the booking there was no attempt to contact me that the booking could not be honoured. Also there could possibly be an issue with the parking control cameras as we all drove into the carpark and left shortly afterwards, having made phone calls to find another venue. Overall I am not happy and will not be recommending the Jolly Sailor or Table Agent.

Overall experience good but rating pulled down by nanbread for my guest not cooked all way through plus the milk jug (for the coffee) was cracked and I pointed it out to our waitress who was very attentive. The service was efficient and spacing in the conservatory good.

Efficient social distancing and staff were wearing masks so that was reassuring. However, the state of the menus was tatty, didn't look as if they'd been changed since before Covid! Chicken Korma was nice though perhaps not so creamy as usual. Grandson said his burger was rather greasy. Excellent service including water for our dog. Good value for money.

Stunning setting & I am a returning customer but disappointed that despite having a wonderful selection of curry's they had no rice so given chips as alternative. Food super delicious but then went to order desert & advised chef had gone home. We were rather disappointed as it was only 8.15 & they were shutting in 5 mins & had gone out with friends. I was Unaware of this early closure on a wednesday. But the owner was very friendly & attentive during our visit & the food so good we will go back but check definitely opening hours next time.

There was an ants nest at our table. The owner was brusque. The area outside was dirty and very crowded with rowdy people. We didn't feel welcomed or valuable guests. It wasn't a calm or pleasant experience.
