We had a very good time celebrating a birthday and wedding anniversary. The food was great, and the service was excellent. Sad to see so few people probably due to the sad events of the day. Would certainly go again and strongly recommend to friends

Efficient social distancing and staff were wearing masks so that was reassuring. However, the state of the menus was tatty, didn't look as if they'd been changed since before Covid! Chicken Korma was nice though perhaps not so creamy as usual. Grandson said his burger was rather greasy. Excellent service including water for our dog. Good value for money.

We booked a table but we never stayed to eat.The pub was dirty there were tables that hadn’t been cleared plates piled up everywhere.We could see into the kitchen and that wasn’t a pleasant sight either.I suggest that if they want to attract customers they need to have a deep clean and make everything more appealing as it stands at the minute it’s a terrible place…..definitely won’t be going back.

Really friendly manager/ owner ? and staff, great Sunday lunches and plenty of it. Decor a bit tired and tatty so not a dressy, special occasion type place but will certainly be going back and happy to recommend. Thank you for looking after us

Was nervous about visiting due to previous posts absolutely nothing to worry about. We were bought a voucher for Xmas decided at the start of lockdown easing to use it to celebrate our wedding anniversary which happened to be a Wednesday was able to use it during eat out to help out. There was a very good menu selection customer service was excellent owner came over and spoke to us personally. Will definitely visit again and highly recommend.

Stunning setting & I am a returning customer but disappointed that despite having a wonderful selection of curry's they had no rice so given chips as alternative. Food super delicious but then went to order desert & advised chef had gone home. We were rather disappointed as it was only 8.15 & they were shutting in 5 mins & had gone out with friends. I was Unaware of this early closure on a wednesday. But the owner was very friendly & attentive during our visit & the food so good we will go back but check definitely opening hours next time.

Service tbh was pretty abnissal, although shown to seat, we had to ask staff if we had to order at bar or table service. Although table service we waited and to wait for our drinks, then asked twice if ordered food. Had to wait and wait for the bill. My fruend had fish in batter and part if it was hard, apparently the chef said that's normal and can't tell how it will cook, well in my 50+ years that's the first I've ever heard. Don't think I'll be going back for food, maybe a drink by the river on a nice sunny day. Need to get yr act in order if you want customers to come!

first rime visit following impressive advert in local rag. Good parking, dismal entrance to bar. Bar itself no better, could do with a good clean. No ambiance whatsoever. Very rough and ready. Food service extremely slow making us late for an appointment. will never go there again or recommend to any one we like. friends warned us that it was a dive.

It is a riverside pub but ordering food and drink standing next to a sweating and smelly man with no shirt on was not the right ambience. They were busy but should still have a minimum quality of service such as saucers with your coffee cups together with spoons and sugar.

Very disappointed with our visit. Upon our arrival no signs or two way systems in place. Nothing being wiped down when customers leaving. I actually thought it was illegal to not provide table service currently but I was made to que. I asked for menus upon arrival and was told to go to the area taking orders of which there was 8 people queuing. So that was a ridiculous start. The waitress was moody and rude. No clear system in and out of the toilets. Just poor performance. Cider was flat and the burger which expensive to start with came with an additional £1 charge to add a measly bit of bacon or cheese. Won’t be returning

Well won’t be rushing back, pre booked table not set took 1 yes 1 and HALF just to get starters. They weren’t busy asked serval times very poor communication. We had to give up it was so painful!

I could not fault my whole experience at the jolly sailor under the circumstances of social distancing, it was really busy and food was coming to the tables 30-45 minutes late but it wasn’t a problem as we all knew the pressure the staff were under. The staff could not of been more accommodating and apologetic to us, the food was amazing and I will be definitely coming back again soon to enjoy this lovely pub once again

Thank you. Your establishment was closed when I arrived!!! Why did you confirm my table booking if you knew that you were going to be closed? Will your parking charges still apply? If I get a parking charge you will be hearing more about this. Why does your website state your open!!! Totally unprofessional and uncaring for your customer. The least you should have done is closed the access to the car park so nobody falls foul of the car charging system. Sort your website out and answer the phone. Having e-mailed Jollysailor. The next day I recieved a mail stating this. I am so sorry. You had not got a message of cancellation as it was automated cancellation. We had a massive flooding during last week and we are still on a process of cleaning. I hope you understand during this unforeseen circumstances. We wish you will give us another chance. Food was cold, chicken in ny salad was very dry and bacon was undercooked. My partners fish was extremely pale and chips were cold. There were flies flying around inside the bar as we were eating (maybe due to the fact that glasses weren't cleared). Paid for pudding and had to wait 50 minutes for it to come out, after asking for it again. Overall an extremely poor experience and it is unlikely we will be returning.

Booked originally for 5 then increased party to 6 a couple of days before. Arrived and ordered drinks and told after receiving drinks that sunday lunch was not being served and only the regular menu options were available. This was a huge disappointment and felt we should have been contacted prior to arrival and told no sunday lunches so we could make other arrangements, we were not alone in this disappointment as other diners were in the same position. The regular menu consisted of your pub grub staples, nothing appeared to be freshly cooked and quite frankly the quality was not great. Cannot fault the staff they were apologetic and attentive but we paid £150 for 4 starters and 6 mains, most of us had burgers for lunch which were not great and very pricey

We went for lunch on Friday, turned up and had to wait to tell someone we had booked a table. We were told they were missing a few things from the menu, which was fine we ordered and food was very nice. We had scampi and steak & ale pie. More and more people came in and were told what was missing from the menu, it actually got so bad it was easier to say what they did have rather than what they didn’t! We felt sorry for the 2 girls behind the bar as it just felt they were having to take the brunt for the lack of food available. We were lucky to order when we did. Overall it was a nice experience.

You could tell the staff were inexperienced. When we arrived we were shown to our booked table, which didn't have enough chairs and was in the very cramped conservatory. We were then left without being told we needed to order at the bar upon sitting down one of the chairs was missing part of the frame and so had to be replaced as it was unsafe. Then after we ordered (Sunday roadts on a sunday) we waited over an hour for our food with no communication or apologies for the delay. To the point that once we were the only people left in the conservatory (glad to not be cramped in but then the room was rather cold) we had to ask someone if our food was coming. Our food came out soon after, but still with no apology for it being late. Two of us had ordered the roast pork with crackling and neither of us actually had any crackling! So may be best to remove that part from the description? The rest of the food was average, but at least the portion sizes were generous. Would not go back again

Just a shame we had to return are pudding as it had a hair actually in the sticky toffee pudding, wanted quiche but wasn’t told it wasn’t In stock till I asked if it came cold or hot and told they weren’t serving hot drinks but they were making hot drinks at the time, Other then that the platters were lovely and perfect value of money and a lovely Scenery, I will be back again

We were warmly greeted and served by Charlotte for the evening, the service was fantastic throughout our visit and the food was very enjoyable so compliments to the chef, we would highly recommend the Jolly Sailer as it was relaxed dining with all expectations exceeded and plan to return again very soon.

Had booked for Sunday lunch and completed a 20 mile cycle ride to get there as a day out - asked about food when we arrived and were told that there was no Sunday menu/food today. Website says excellent selection of local ales and ciders - only local (ish) drink on tap was Thatchers - disappointing. Looked at the main food menu - disappointing, generic selection not making the most of local ingredients and suppliers. Also very overpriced - £11.95 for halloumi and chips! Staff were not very welcoming and atmosphere was not great. Best feature is the riverside location and attractive building when viewed from the riverside.

Unfortunately it wasn’t great - realise it was eat out to help out and it was busy but they should have realised that - we had an hour wait for food to arrive, and when it did the order wasn’t correct with relish put on stuff when asked not to, we didn’t complain as it had taken that long to come out originally. Ham was slimy and cheese warm, rolls for ploughman’s were rock solid so couldn’t eat - glad I ordered a baguette which was okay. The food wasn’t good let’s put it that way and they have been told if u check out reviews and simply saying we will let the chefs know isn’t going to cut it. Stunning location but that won’t win back customers. Such a shame.

Unfortunately the service and cleanliness of the jolly sailor has gone downhill, such a beautiful location, but the pub cleanliness isn’t on par with the location, or what it used to be. The beer selection is also in need of review. Foster/Heineken with a poor selection of ipa’s. The team are polite just young and untrained.

Eating at an outside table on a cold day is never so good as an inside one, but that’s Covid! The food and drinks were what we expected and service, given the circumstances , was prompt and there was probably a smile behind the mask. Had to ask for a another black coffee as it was not up to scratch but the replacement was brought out immediately and with an apology.

There was a limited menu due to the 50% government incentive scheme. We went to the Jolly Sailor to sample the curries available from the menu online. To be told that there was a restricted menu was very disappointing. We thought it was 50% off NOT 50% of the menu!! Will not be going back.

My friend was concerned that there wasn’t table service for ordering. Also told they weren’t serving coffee until lunch was over. Crazy as that was over an hour wait, complained and lady dealt with it very efficiently, bar staff hadn’t realised we had already eaten thought we just wanted coffee. Maybe question should have been asked to avoid the confusion.

The fact a table was booked didn’t seem to make any difference - this wasn’t checked and I was told I could sit at any available seat. Whilst the staff were very friendly, the process of ordering & paying for food/drink was very poor and time consuming. Fantastic setting but would recommend they invest in an ordering/payment app that customers can use.

The staff are pleasant and welcoming, but their inexperience does show. The pub is in an attractive location beside the river, so has a lot of potential. Hopefully with more experience, training and improving the standard of cleanliness, this place will get much better. The food was fine.

There was an ants nest at our table. The owner was brusque. The area outside was dirty and very crowded with rowdy people. We didn't feel welcomed or valuable guests. It wasn't a calm or pleasant experience.

Took a while to be seated and then we were sat at the table for a while waiting for someone to take our order. In the end I had to get up and walk towards the waitress to let her know that we were ready to order. Food came out quite quickly after that but not even halfway through eating my meal the waitress came up to our table and asked us to pay whilst eating which was rude and unnecessary. Other people around us were waiting a while to pay for their order after eating so it was strange that we were singled out and made to pay before we had even finished. Everything else was perfect and I would definitely visit again.

I can't comment upon the food as the three of us only drank and had crisps but it was a really nice gesture to give me a birthday G & T; most grateful. Love the Jolly's setting and is fantastic on a sunny day/evening. Unfortunately for me, the sun never shines on my birthday (in the middle of July) and so it bucketed it down - although we were nice and dry under the large umbrella that covered the table.

Pub was very cold. No heating on a cold and rainy day. The food was ok and served quickly. This is a pub which enjoys a large clientele during the summer months but on s cold and wet early April it was cold and empty.

We sat outside and it was lovely. Socially distanced queuing to order food and drinks at the bar, and one way entry/exit system. The staff were lovely. The only real issue we had was the toilets. The ladies’ smelled very bad and floors/cubicles were dirty. We were at the pub for 5-6 hours and don’t think the toilets were cleaned at all during that time. Not sure how covid safe that is.

My niece and I came to the Jolly Sailor for lunch, as it was a dry day we were able to sit in the garden. The food was served promptly, a chicken jalfrezi and a veggie curry. As much as we enjoyed the meal we both found it extremely difficult to digest and both suffered tummy troubles as a result

First experience of dinning out for Christmas dinner, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Food was amazing and plenty of it, service was great , It wasn’t rushed giving a chance to digest everything and relax. The staff were pleasant and helpful. There was only one thing that we felt could have been better, it was the heating, it was very cold and people were dinning with coats on. If the place was warmer it would have been wonderful.

Our first time out for a while so we were looking forward to it! (LIKE everyone else no doubt). Weather was a bit disappointing but obviously you have no control over that! Although we did think the umbrellas could have been put down so we could feel the warmth of the sun. We were shown to our table quickly, but it was a while before our order was taken. Food arrived quite quickly though. Chicken Tikka Masala was lovely. My grandson had a 'sharing platter', but quite a few bits were missing i.e. spring rolls and a couple of dips. We paid for the food at the table before it arrived, which was very efficient but you do yourselves out of a tip then! ( as we are not going to tip before we even know what the meal is like). Good to see tables being wiped as some places don't bother outside. We'll come again when the weather is a bit warmer!
