The John Barleycorn is a traditional thatched village country pub, full of character and charm that has been providing hospitality for over 350 years. Originally a beer or ale house in the 1600s it was then owned by the three Halliwell sisters. There have been many guardians and changes over the following centuries until the present day…
Inside you’ll find a cosy bar with comfy seats where all are welcome including muddy boots and four-legged friends. Our locals are a friendly bunch and always ready for a chat, you can enjoy a board game with your friends or take time for yourself. We want you to enjoy a relaxing and comfortable stay with us, so if you need anything please ask.
We’re all about sustainability and wherever possible use locally sourced seasonal produce and the freshest ingredients for our menus which are best described as fine British country fayre with a little flourish of French home cooking.
Our garden is the perfect spot for after work drinks. Handcrafted blankets are on hand if you’re feeling the chill and on blistering days you can borrow a boater and help yourself to some sun protection lotion. Whether you choose to dine in the restaurant, snack in the bar or graze alfresco, we like to think there’s a somewhere and something for everyone.

An old pub with wooden beams giving a very cosy feel. Also with background music playing giving a good atmosphere. The service was very good and the staff friendly. Varied menu choices which were reasonably priced, cooked & presented well- mainly your typical pub type food.
I would visit this pub again.

Lovely Tudor pub, lots of beams and great atmosphere. Loved the old wooden aircraft propellor mounted on the wall in acknowledgement of the history of Duxford. A log fire would have made the experience perfect!
We felt the Mains menu was a bit limited and they didn't have enough pies for all of us, but the ones they had were delicious. The substitute of scampi rated amongst the best scampi I have ever had. Good chips. We were not overly impressed by the dessert menu, but were too stuffed for dessert anyway. We will definitely be going back.

Excellent service and food was beautifully cooked. I'd also add it was good value for money.
The only negative was the bright light directly over the dining table. It couldn't be turned off due to it being on a circuit, but putting a lower watt bulb in would make all the difference.

Overall we had a lovely evening,food was good and good value as well,very tasty,staff were polite until we had finished eating,2 plates were cleared while the other two were still eating,dessert was good but we were rushed into paying afterwards,felt like couldn’t wait to get us out of the door,asked for another coffee and was told they closed in three minutes,this was just before 11pm so not late as pubs go,we did get a coffee but constant clearing the table as soon as a glass or cup was finished, it all became a bit uncomfortable,just something that needs addressing if you want customers to return,we would as we say the food was good

Very limited menu. Did not realise this. Our fault I guess as did say on website but perhaps could be made clearer. 3 people looked and had not picked it up. Cottage pie nice but too much potato on top and not enough meat underneath! Pate apparently good and sausage and mash fab. Veg chilli enjoyed by vegetarian.
