My favourite pub in the area!
Relaxed and friendly. Service and food were both excellent, especially the panna cotta with rhubarb. A really lovely pub.
Lovely to back in our local pub and to see it busy. Fantastic evening great atmosphere in the tent!
I enjoyed trying the Chicken Satay which was delicious thank you. Sadly it was almost cold! I'm not sure how you can help this, but it is a shame!
Great burgers, loved it, would go back again
Yet another fabulous piece of fresh fish with accompanying chips and also a very flavoursome Venison Casserole. Keep up the great food and service which is greatly appreciated at this challenging time. Looking forward to our Sunday roasts later today.
We were supposed to be away at a hotel for Christmas but it got cancelled and we treated ourselves to a meal at the Red Lion, Hinxton. It was wonderful in every way. My sons are still raving about the steak and ale pie which they said was the best they had ever eaten! Friendly attentive service, relaxed and comfortable surroundings and excellent food - what more could you ask?
Loved the whole experience. Would definitely recommend to others and come back soon!
The very best Sunday roast - like we enjoyed as children at our Mother’s table
Friendly and welcoming as ever; but perhaps because arriving at 2.30 on Sunday my chips were few, dry and tired.
Food was excellent.
Very pleasant stay, delightful room and meal. Do visit the pub and village, and take a stroll to the mill (dating from 1086). It’s sad that Covid is forcing so many to stay at home.
Excellent set up under the current Corvid restrictions with options where to eat. Will be back
We live in the village and use the pub a fair amount. Very nice food and service.
Lovely pub, good food in a relaxed atmosphere.
Friendly, quick service of delicious food. It was hard to choose which meal to have. It all sounded fabulous.
Always a pleasure. Excellent food, friendly and efficient service. Good value
Sunny garden, delicious homemade food, and good service.
5 of us met for lunch under the gazebo in the Red Lion garden. The food and service was excellent and despite periods of heavy rain we managed to enjoy the entire meal comfortably.
Great fast service. Polite and friendly staff. Great food.
Great food. Steak and ale pie was well filled. Burger was tall and we'll packed.
Really excellent for our first meal out after the lockdown! Very friendly and helpful.
Very good indeed.
Excellent, well-spaced out beer garden that helps give a pub atmosphere whilst keeping patrons separated. Great food, great service, excellent pub. Recommended!
Great food and great service!!
Excellent food and wonderful service
Good to revisit
A perfect escape from Lockdown. Well done the Red Lion!
Met up with family (socially distanced) for Sunday lunch in your beautiful garden, we’re new to hinxton and was the perfect place to show our family the new village we live in, food was perfect with clear plates left all round, can’t wait for our next meal here
This was our first visit to the Red Lion, having discovered it in our Good Pub Food Guide as one of the ‘Pick of the Pubs’ and wanting to have our first meal out since Covid. Firstly we felt very safe at the Red Lion and as such would encourage people to visit now it’s possible to do so, pubs and restaurants like the Red Lion really need support. The food was very good and the service to match, ambience wasn’t great but the restaurant was quiet so perfectly understandable under the circumstances. We’ll definitely be back and would certainly recommend the Red Lion.
A very good experience and lovely food.
The Sunday lunch was tasty and the atmosphere was cheery and refreshing, enabling all of us to feel human again, not trapped. Staff were attentive and thoughtful. The only small disappointment was the unavailability of gf dessert. That would have been an exceptional treat, but we were assured that it would be available in the future. Thank you for keeping me in touch.
A real gem of a pub, the food was excellent which given the current situation is quite an achievement.
We're very lucky to have this place as our local. The starter of terrine in pea soup is unusual but delicious. The roast was pretty good by pub standards, too - but not as good as my Mum's! ;-)
Loved the burgers & the chips were just amazing - delivery was good thanks
The high point of another week in lockdown
Good food, provided hot and very tasty (steak & ale pies, chips), friendly service. Sure will be nice when lockdown is eased and we can enjoy dinner and beer/wine inside!
Just good to get out again and meet some friends (socially distanced on a separate table). Venison was particularly good.
Very nice food in a lovely old pub in a pretty village. Friendly service.
Just fine, keep it up!
Dinner with my sister for a midweek meal. Pub was very quiet . Food was fine but more vegetarian options would be great .Service was good , friendly staff . Overall very good though. Recommend.
We will be back!
Too expensive. Too cold inside. Menu doesn't cater for children very well. No chicken option for Sunday Lunch is a mistake. Roast Dinner is too fancy. The sauces for the sticky toffee pudding should be in a pot for the individual to add. Chocolate fudge cake was too big a portion, too dry, with not enough ice cream. We spilt a drink and ended wiping the table ourselves as the staff did half a job cleaning up. Disappointing overall.
Great, quick service, food lovely.
Pricing could perhaps be reviewed based upon what is actually served up on some meals. I’d have struggled to justify what was on my plate actually being worth £15.
The menu seems to have shrunk quite a lot. We have been frequent diners of the Red Lion and have had some very fond memories of the food here. Staff, service and ambiance remains great but we found the food this time around quite disappointing and dissatisfying. Particularly the Roast beef Sirloin which was very dry and chewy and the mushroom starter and crackers was also very dry.
Very pleasant experience, with sprightly service and very fair pricing. Lovely garden, with excellent social distancing between tables.
The wasps were a bit of a pest!
First time out in a pub since lockdown measures were lifted and the Red Lion and its staff are working hard to ensure your experience is as good as it was before. Welldone.
The ambiance can never be as good outside as in the beautiful pub, but they did their best with a large marque and patio heaters. Service was good. Food was very nice, if a little expensive. Will certainly be back.
