Very pleasant stay, delightful room and meal. Do visit the pub and village, and take a stroll to the mill (dating from 1086). It’s sad that Covid is forcing so many to stay at home.
Excellent set up under the current Corvid restrictions with options where to eat. Will be back
We live in the village and use the pub a fair amount. Very nice food and service.
Lovely pub, good food in a relaxed atmosphere.
Friendly, quick service of delicious food. It was hard to choose which meal to have. It all sounded fabulous.
Always a pleasure. Excellent food, friendly and efficient service. Good value
Sunny garden, delicious homemade food, and good service.
5 of us met for lunch under the gazebo in the Red Lion garden. The food and service was excellent and despite periods of heavy rain we managed to enjoy the entire meal comfortably.
Great fast service. Polite and friendly staff. Great food.
Great food. Steak and ale pie was well filled. Burger was tall and we'll packed.
Really excellent for our first meal out after the lockdown! Very friendly and helpful.
Very good indeed.
Excellent, well-spaced out beer garden that helps give a pub atmosphere whilst keeping patrons separated. Great food, great service, excellent pub. Recommended!
Great food and great service!!
Excellent food and wonderful service
Good to revisit
A perfect escape from Lockdown. Well done the Red Lion!
Met up with family (socially distanced) for Sunday lunch in your beautiful garden, we’re new to hinxton and was the perfect place to show our family the new village we live in, food was perfect with clear plates left all round, can’t wait for our next meal here
This was our first visit to the Red Lion, having discovered it in our Good Pub Food Guide as one of the ‘Pick of the Pubs’ and wanting to have our first meal out since Covid. Firstly we felt very safe at the Red Lion and as such would encourage people to visit now it’s possible to do so, pubs and restaurants like the Red Lion really need support. The food was very good and the service to match, ambience wasn’t great but the restaurant was quiet so perfectly understandable under the circumstances. We’ll definitely be back and would certainly recommend the Red Lion.
A very good experience and lovely food.
The Sunday lunch was tasty and the atmosphere was cheery and refreshing, enabling all of us to feel human again, not trapped. Staff were attentive and thoughtful. The only small disappointment was the unavailability of gf dessert. That would have been an exceptional treat, but we were assured that it would be available in the future. Thank you for keeping me in touch.
Dinner with my sister for a midweek meal. Pub was very quiet . Food was fine but more vegetarian options would be great .Service was good , friendly staff . Overall very good though. Recommend.
We will be back!
Too expensive. Too cold inside. Menu doesn't cater for children very well. No chicken option for Sunday Lunch is a mistake. Roast Dinner is too fancy. The sauces for the sticky toffee pudding should be in a pot for the individual to add. Chocolate fudge cake was too big a portion, too dry, with not enough ice cream. We spilt a drink and ended wiping the table ourselves as the staff did half a job cleaning up. Disappointing overall.
Great, quick service, food lovely.
Pricing could perhaps be reviewed based upon what is actually served up on some meals. I’d have struggled to justify what was on my plate actually being worth £15.
The menu seems to have shrunk quite a lot. We have been frequent diners of the Red Lion and have had some very fond memories of the food here. Staff, service and ambiance remains great but we found the food this time around quite disappointing and dissatisfying. Particularly the Roast beef Sirloin which was very dry and chewy and the mushroom starter and crackers was also very dry.
Very pleasant experience, with sprightly service and very fair pricing. Lovely garden, with excellent social distancing between tables.
The wasps were a bit of a pest!
First time out in a pub since lockdown measures were lifted and the Red Lion and its staff are working hard to ensure your experience is as good as it was before. Welldone.
We went for pub classics; 1 beef and ale pie and 1 fish and chips, which were really good. Lovely mix of veg with the pie. Laura appeared very busy taking all orders and serving all drinks and food, but she was efficient and friendly.
Really lovely food and everyone safely spaced out. Good timings as well.
Hard to have ambience at the moment!
Lovely garden with tables well spaced and covered for sun or rain. Reasonable choice of menu although a couple of items not available.
All good except service a bit slow. We were not in a hurry so it didn't matter - but we might have been!
We live in Duxford and have visited the Red Lion many times over the years. The considerable efforts made to ensure happy/satisfied customers under a totally new hosting regime were self evident. We will be back for more of the same in the coming weeks. Well done and keep it up!
The food was excellent and the rest of the experience was good given the restrictions of social distancing.
Staff very helpful and gave good service. As we were sitting outside did not appreciate motor cyclist who obviously works at the pub reversing his bike right up to the trellis covering us in fumes, a d doing the same when he left.
Before lockdown we regularly ate at the Red Lion. During lockdown we had fish and chips several times which was ok but not up to your ‘eat in’ standard. I was disappointed to find that the fish and chips were the same as lockdown. The skin on fish was always removed before frying pre lockdown and the chips were always super crispy.
