Housed in the old wine cellar of a much loved local landmark EVERT RESTAURANT can be described as a stupendous and inspiring blend of Cape Dutch heritage elements balanced by a contemporary focus.
Down-to-earth elegance with velvet couches, antique tables, beautifully restored old furniture and true South African hospitality set the scene for a restaurant with a difference. Patrons may sit inside by the huge fireplace soaking up the heritage or outside in the garden with gorgeous views of the Eversdal valley.
The unique and edgy space is perfect for a wholesome modern South African seasonal menu that changes according to what local ingredients are available. The focus of the menu is to always celebrate heritage and the unique location of the restaurant.

Our first visit to this restaurant.....what a fantastic experience...the welcome was warm, the food excellent and the service great....
Mention must be made of the wonderful sauce on the Gnocchi, the salted caramel jus for the Pork Belly and the oversized vanilla cake.....the coffees were also excellent.....great value for money....we will be back!!!! Highly Recommended

Thank you for a lovely experience. This has definitely become one of my favourite 'hang outs'. My feedback for improvement would be:
We ordered the Winter platter for two. Unfortunately, the food gets cold throughout the experience. My suggestion would be to bring the soup and bread first, while the rest of the platter is kept warm. The food on the platter was excellent though.
Secondly, I found the wine prices, especially the red wines, very expensive. I would like to see more red wines in the R200 to R250 price range.

It's always a treat to go to Evert Opstal Restaurant, we always have a good time. It's a beautiful, tranquil space and the food is divine; we came back in particular for the lamb shank which was once again done to perfection. It was our colleagues birthday and she was treated to a complimentary dessert which i think was lovely touch. We always recommend it to those who ask and we will most certainly be back.

It is always with some pride to take only the dearest of friends to "our" Opstal, as we did again recently. The place never fails to impress, food is great (I REALLY loved the Shakshuka!), coffee is superb (my husband always orders the red cappuccino; his fave) and our waitron was so cheerful and friendly. Please convey this to Claudine! She made the sweetest intervention when we were "debating" over who should pay what. (We won!!)

I've been to Evert a few times already and not once can I pin point something that bothered me. The food is always outstanding. It was my first time trying the Evert Lamb Benedict. OMW!! Rating service low as been there many times and took friends from Namibia there but the speed was very slow this time. Otherwise always lovely to visit

Lovely morning - would have loved that the tea inside the cast iron pots was actually as hot as I anticipated. It was however cold… the portion of carrot cake was huge - where as the cheesecake portion was really small. Otherwise lovely place.

We ordered the flavoured tea. The beautiful teapot and the way it was presented was lovely. Unfortunately the tea was cold even with hot milk. It would make a difference maybe if the teapot was heated before the hot water was poured in.

We were welcomed on our arrival. Food and coffee was delicious. Ambiance is good and it was lovely having the fire burning. The only thing and it’s not a negative as I find it at most restaurants, is that there’s always strawberry or apricot jam for the toast, but not marmalade. I usually bring my own, so it’s no a problem.
Definitely a restaurant I would return to regularly.

The “table “ next to the fireplace is a cold table, my husband’s cuppachino was not decaf although they argued that it was. He only drinks decaf so he should know.

The setting is charming and welcoming with great food that is reasonably priced. My only criticism is that our waitress was not attentive. I had to keep looking around to get her attention. She did not come back to check on us after the meals were served, however, management made a turn at our table. I will visit again in future :-)

As always, a lovely experience! Friendly service, cozy ambience with a crackling fire behind me (perfect in this cold & stormy weather), the most divine coffee and delicious eggs benedict! Only "complaint" for yesterday was the lady taking payment could have been a little friendlier as that is what im used to there, but everyone has bad days so i wont let that stop me from visiting again!

The small two seater table is a bit uncomfortable regarding legspace, as well as the wooden backs of the chairs. Otherwise a lovely setting.
