Frequently Asked Questions- DO I NEED A RESERVATION?
- We always emphasize making a reservation. The restaurant gets to maximum capacity many days! Our online reservation system is just three quick clicks!
- IS THE AFTERNOON TEA EXPERIENCE SHARABLE?
- The Afternoon Tea experience is a three tiered tray with four courses designed for one. Offering many selections, each portion is bite sized. It begins with hot tea and scones. The tiered tray is four small appetizers, five finger sandwiches, and four miniature desserts. Should you share, each person would not be able to try each item. For example, the chilled shrimp cocktail is one piece of shrimp. The experience is a meal by itself for one.
- DO YOU HOST LARGE GROUPS FOR SPECIAL EVENTS LIKE SHOWERS, GRADUATIONS, ETC?
- We absolutely do host large groups! Our seven dining rooms offer exclusive spaces for your guests to be served and share special occasions.
- WHERE DO I PARK?
- We have a free surrounding parking lot next to the Dent House. Additionally, parking is available on the street around the front circle and on the lawn when overflow is necessary.
- WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
- Anything you like! We've noticed guests dressing up and dressing down. Whatever your occasion, dress comfortably and be prepared to help yourself to any number of hats we have available to share.
- DO YOU HAVE VEGETARIAN AND GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS?
- Our menu is coded with V for vegetarian, and GF for Gluten Free options for your convenience.
- CAN WE BRING A CAKE?
- Absolutely! We simply ask for all outside baked goods to come from bakeries, knowing that the Department of Health maintains proper sanitation in those establishments. Cake cutting and serving on our china is $1 per guest. Additionally, we have hat cakes in three flavors available to serve up to 20 guests for $35.
- ARE YOU HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE?
- We are! We have a lift to the left of our back porch. Please call for assistance when you arrive and we will be standing at attention to help you operate the handicap lift at the rear entrance. 423.521.4TEA (4832)
- CAN WE BRING A BOTTLE OF WINE?
- Polly Claire's is fully licensed and offers a variety of wines by the bottle or glass, champagne, as well as cocktails. It is not necessary to bring your own bottle of wine.

- YES! It operated from 1895-1985. The Bonny Oaks Alumni have a FB page and association if you'd like to get in touch with someone who was raised here. Please notice the photos of the BOCH on our walls in the necessary rooms.

We have tried for two years to get there. Panademic slows us down and then other things. So we were thrilled to be able to come Fri for my cousin special birthday.
The three of us cousins thoroughly enjoyed atmosphere, food, tea, service. Perfect. We decided to drop in gift shop. Now some disappointment. A lady was at register. I spoke. She grunted. We started looking around. She went to back. We never saw her again. My cousin was going to buy the City Scope magazine. We waited and waited. She never came back. At least we got a laugh because we said we could have taken every out of there and she would have never noticed

Polly Claire's still makes afternoon tea special, in spite of the pandemic. The service and ambiance were great, and everyone at our table had a great time.
This was my second time there, and the food was just not as good as it was the first time. The scone and shortbread were great, as were the tomato tart and the cucumber sandwich. Nothing else stood out, though, and the egg salad and banana pudding were downright bland. But who really cares? It was an outing with friends, and we had tea and finger foods that we didn't have to make--everything else is a minor detail.

This is the third time in a year and a half for my daughter and me to visit Polly Claire’s, and we had a very good time. We have been there once with just the two of us, once with four of us, and this time with six of us.
MINUSES:
The food is a bit pricey for what you get, but it is still one of our several favorite places for a special outing. Unfortunately, we can’t go very often.
PLUSSES:
We love the overall experience and the ambiance.
Your servers have been wonderful: Polite, friendly, helpful, informative.
We like the laid back atmosphere and the un-crowdedness.
The best thing you have is the lobster bisque.

I really enjoy the environment, but I wish it wasn’t so pricy. I was only paying for 1 adult and 2 kids and it still cost $97. I don’t think gratuity should be added to checks when there are only 3 adults at the table and 4 kids.

Our server was very attentive and we loved that she was very informative on the way to do things, like breaking the scone, not cutting it. Everything was delicious. This is a must do in Chattanooga. We travel from Nashville to come here. This is the only tea room you need to visit in Chattanooga. The owner and staff are friendly & welcoming and the food is delicious. Their scone and shortbread are out of this world!

Wonderful service. I'm a little confused why the waitress wears one glove but still uses that hand to bring and take things from table. That's no different than just not wearing a glove. Still has germs on gloves.

Honestly I must tell you the truth. I think the chicken croissant would be a little easier to eat if they could slice it put the chicken salad inside and slice the croissant into two pieces. It’s hard to cut it with a fork and eat it. And as far as the Tea ...$4.50 per person is a little bit extravagant...Two people should be able to share one pot for $4.50. But the atmosphere the servers are fantastic!

The place was lovely. The fireplace was a really nice addition on a cold and windy day. The hats kept our 2 little girls entertained and we all enjoyed trying them on. The cost with only 2 Afternoon Teas and 1 extra scone was $100. We enjoyed it, but my enjoyment was dampened a bit by the bill.

My friend and I used a school coupon for afternoon tea. We did not receive all of the "nibblers" which are listed as one of the courses on the menu. So basically we did not receive a fourth of the courses. I don't know if it was because we used a coupon or if it was an oversight or if they have changed their menu items.

You advertized a desert you did not have. We wanted to try the figgy pudding. So I chose another desert that was so hard and dry I could not eat it. Very disappointing way to end a meal. It would have been nice if Christmas music had been playing. The meal was "ok" but nothing to tell my friends about. Probably will not be coming back.

Our server, Kaitlin, was great. We also met another server in the same dining room who was very pleasant. Both ladies made us feel welcome and valued as customers, so top marks for your servers. The ambiance was nice; everything was spotless; the china was lovely. We arrived exactly at 11:00, and there was one other party in the dining room, so the restaurant was not crowded. Our drink and food orders were taken simultaneously within less than 5 minutes, and our drinks were brought out in a relatively timely manner. Then, we waited and waited and waited for our food. When it finally arrived (after noon), the mashed potatoes on top of my husband's shepherd's pie were cold and the bottom of the dish was extremely hot, so it had to be mixed to even out between the cold and hot. It was not very tasty. My husband also had lobster-bisque soup (which came with the meal for an up charge), and he ordered a scone. Both of these items were fine. I ordered the chicken, pecan, fruit salad. It was a sizable portion and was okay. It would have been better without the chicken, which tasted a little old. Having to wait almost an hour to receive our entrees after getting our drinks meant my tea was stone cold. You have a lovely establishment and friendly, hard-working servers, and I'm sure you have a lot of time and money invested in your business. Please consider working on your menu to produce more flavorful dishes and invest in tea cozies. This is the only tea room I've ever visited that does not have tea cozies. The cost for lunch for two people with tip was over $60. Had it arrived in a timely manner and tasted really good, we would have considered it a good value, but it just wasn't. Also, please talk to your Web people, I received 6 requests to submit comments for this one reservation. Not a big deal, but it might aggravate some people. We'd like to come back, but please accept this review from someone who's visited before and sees a need for tasty food delivered quickly.

What a beautiful day and amazing experience we all had at Polly Claire’s ! So much history and a rare jewel that Chattanoga has been gifted with! Lovely employee’s who cared and were extremely gracious on all levels! The tea , scones and the chicken salad were exceptional!! We cannot wait to come back and appreciated this extraordinary experience! Please everyone go and see for yourselves! What a blessing!

Polly Claire's was a great experience. Melissa was a fantastic server who took time to tell us what all the different foods were when she brought them out to us. The food was excellent, the tea was just right, everything was very clean and elegant. It is a little expensive, but we knew that going in. You go for the experience and it was a wonderful way to spend our 25th anniversary.

Tomato bisque soup was delicious. The appetizer scones were wonderful. Did not care for the garlic scones and wish there had been another choice for the bread for the sandwich. But I didn't ask so there may have been. Overall a wonderful experience. The raspberry tea was excellent.
