The Samuel Fox offers fine dining in an informal pub setting in the heart of the Peak District park. The restaurant features in the Michelin Guide, the Good Food Guide, Harden's Best UK Restaurants Guide and the AA Guide in which it is awarded two rosettes for its food. The linked restaurant and bar areas, tastefully decorated in contemporary style, afford the Inn a sense of space and light, which is further enhanced by the large windows, providing customers with glorious views of the surrounding countryside. There is on-site parking and wheelchair access to the restaurant, bar and toilets. The Inn also has four en-suite rooms, making it an ideal base for exploring the countryside, villages and heritage sites of the Peak District.

An amazing chef! The food is subtly flavoured so that individual elements are not overpowering, a great skill. Also pleased that food intolerances/vegan were catered for with starters and mains. Perhaps room for a dairy free dessert which offers more than the usual sorbet although to be fair they did offer poached pears with this. Excellent standard maintained as always and we've been visiting for at least 8 years. Just love the place!

Outstanding meal at a wonderful venue in the countryside. An excellent meal, we had the 3 course option with mackerel and pate starters and chicken and trout mains . My wife, being Chinese, does not normally go for Chicken breast but she was totally blown away with it! Only downside to our experience was at for some reason we were not offered the 7 course taster meal

We enjoyed a delicious meal at Samuel Fox Hotel to celebrate a birthday. At the end of the meal, the staff brought a plate decorated with coolie written as 'Happy Birthday' accompanied with some chocolate hearts. This exceeded our expectations and was such a nice touch.

Food is superb so make a detour. The fish soup, chicken liver terrine, feather of beef all delicious. Top marks for the trout though. Didn’t really need pudding but ordered just because rest of the meal so good. Sticky toffee pudding and raspberry creme brûlée were also wonderful. Ignore the rather odd carpet and enjoy the great flavours. Definitely will go back when in the peaks. We have eaten all over the world and a visit to Samuel Fox is up there.

We had two lovely meals here, one for our wedding anniversary on the Thursday and booked again for the Friday. They must have heard us congratulating each other as they gave us a plate at the end of our meal beautiful decorated with chocolate and hearts!! Very nice.

This was our first restaurant visit since Covid-19 hit us all. It was great. The Samuel Fox has long been our favourite pub restaurant. We always get the sense of entering the home of a rather grand friend, grand but welcoming. The front of house from Matt is delightful and the food classy. On this, our most recent visit, the welcome was as charming as ever; the restaurant was unusually full but the distance between tables is always generous so that was not a problem; a discreet (perhaps a little too discreet) one way system was in place, so as to maintain social distance; most of the food was fabulous; and the wines well-chosen by Matt. So, The Samuel Fox is our beacon of light in these dark times.

Despite staffing issues that they had on the evening, we were welcomed nicely and given a choice of tables to sit at. All 3 courses of food were delicious and of a perfect quantity, so as not to be left feeling too full at the end. As this was a special occasion, the young waiter also served a ‘Happy Birthday’ plate to my husband! Very pleased with everything on the evening. Thank you all.

We loved the food. Last Thursday must have been the tenth time we have eaten at The Samuel Fox and is one of the most important reasons for coming back. Everything we ate was first-class: imaginative, beautifully presented, full of technique, sensibly sized portions and delicious. The kitchen is back on top of its game. The front of house was friendly, cheerful, helpful but we did miss Matt, front of house for a good few years up until last Summer, which was when we were last able to visit. His ability to make us feel the most important table in the room always made our visits special, even though we were quite sure he was doing the same with every other table. So, really good but can be even better. I look forward to seeing it happen.

had a brilliant experience at Samuel Fox. We were made to feel welcome as soon as we entered the restaurant. The setting is perfect with the hills as a backdrop in a quiet quaint village. The food was perfect..the home made bread to start off with soft and fresh. The starters mains and dessert were all amazing. No complaints at all.

The food was excellent. However I booked online for their early bird discount 3 courses £24 s great way to try a new restaurant. Once seated and having ordered drinks the menu stated £36. I checked with the waiter and was told that they didn't do the early bird special , not economical was the reason. I checked the next day and the website had been updated (VAT reduction reduction) and the early bird special is still on the site. Disappointed with that .

Nice food and staff were lovely but there was no atmosphere in the restaurant. All a bit too stuffy and staid. It lacked a buzz. Probably wouldn't return due to that although we had a good meal. We went the previous night to the Bull Inn at Foolow. Food good, pretty basic and not carefully crafted as the Samuel fox but service and atmosphere were excellent. I would chose it over the Samuel fox for that reason. And at half the price for the meal it offered better value.

Overall we were very pleased with the experience in difficult circumstances. Just two points to note. 1. We saw e table being prepared from one group to another & felt the "cleaning" wasn't do e sufficiently for the current times we are in. 2. The ine way system for toilet & Exit/re-entry was not being adhered to & staff could have done more ro advise guests. Bigger sign maybe.

Food was excellent as always though our main course was slightly disppointing this time (the stone bass). Young serving staff did their best but inexperience showed through. Enjoyed chatting to the restaurant manager. It was nice to see the restaurant full. Our table was a bit gloomy in the back but ambience much enhanced when the overhead light was switched on. We will of course be back as we love this place, it just wasn't at its very best on this occasion.
