Always nice at The Oakwood, with friendly staff, a nice ambience and well-behave clientelle. The only downside is that you're paying city prices for drinks. On the other hand, the food is delicious, it isn't too expensive and they serve generous portions.

We were running late and rang ahead. We were able to extend our table booking slightly to meet up with family.
The staff were so helpful.
My wife is gluten and milk free and she found plenty of options on the menu.
My mum struggled to find something simple on the menu but the staff were really helpful, talking to the kitchen to rustle something up.
A BLT/ sandwich options, or a fish & chips might offer something for slightly older diners?
Personally I found the service, food, ambiance to be excellent. Would visit again.

Recent price rises have made The Oakwood more of a luxury than a regular drinking spot, although the free Thursday Music nights do make up for that and are the times we visit for a night out.
There is a good range of beers, wines and cocktails served by cheerful staff, and this pub has a friendly, relaxed and comfortable ambiance. The food is varied, well prepared and presented, of good quality, and, most importantly(!) comes in generous quantities.

Everything was really good from welcome to the bill!
Although the menu was not very traditional we chose well and really enjoyed our meal.
We would recommend! So would our little dog.
