Travel from bridgwater somerset to visit my mother in shaftsbury the crown is a very friendly pub to take my mother best meal so far is the homemade lasagne would reccomend eating here

What a fabulous place to eat. We’ve been there for ‘all you can eat’ breakfast and also dinner with friends Friday evening. The place was buzzing, the food was excellent and the staff first class. Definitely recommend and we’ll certainly be going again.

The place was quite full at lunchtime, with two large groups taking up virtually the whole of the eating area and bar space, but with notice, extra staff on hand, service was excellent and friendly. The food is great, both the homemade pies are made properly with pastry top and bottom and excellent flavour. Our dogs were made welcome under the corner table. It just shows that with good food, good beer and brilliant service news travels fast ! Well done to all of the team.

This is now a great pub, with friendly service, well-kept ales and good food. We met Linny for the first time on our latest visit - she and Cheryl are very friendly and welcoming, as well as being efficient. The only thing that I'd suggest is to have black pepper grinders on the tables.

We much enjoyed the experience. We don't like to waste food but my wife could not finish her steak pie, perhaps smaller ones could be offered - at the same price of course. Overall it was a very pleasant evening, the food was excellent and there was plenty of it and a good variety. Service and staff were also very good. Ambience was only given a lower mark because the dining room was the old skittle alley and, I felt,still felt a bit like that. However, that is a minor point and I would happily return to the pub.

Would have given full marks!
This is a great little pub and having only just moved to the area it was really pleasing to find it. On our first visit on Sunday 23rd July we went for the carvery which was great. However within 4 hours of leaving the pub I was violently sick and had diarrhoea all night. Monday I was washed out and it took all day for me to feel right again. Such a shame as everything was just perfect. We will not be returning.

We took the Father in Law for an early Father’s Day dinner on the Saturday everything was good. Staff were welcoming and no rush the food was exceptional despite the Chef having reservations no complaints from us. Wonderful selection for breakfast. As it was a self serve selection, some dishes inevitably were slightly over cooked such as the fried eggs and black pudding, but on the whole the dishes were freshly cooked and tasty.

They have done a good job on the pub, it's much nicer now and we received a warm welcome and shown to a pleasant dining area. The main courses were good pub food and the jacket potatoes and sandwiches looked very nice, all good value. Finally the service was excelant

The staff are extremely helpful and happy to please. The food at the moment is basic pub grub but is of a good quality. The price of the food is very acceptable. We were all very pleased with the experience and expect to return very shortly if not regularly. Thanks, see you soon.

We received a warm welcome, offered any table we preferred. After establishing that the gluten free pie on the menu was unavailable (the only negative of the visit) an alternative was selected (being the gluten free fish and chips at just £10, it being Fish Friday!). The speed of service was excellent from very attentive staff, the prices were a very pleasant surprise for the drinks and all was extremely good. Highly recommended!

Much better staff and service with the new management. Very cheery attentive staff. It seems to be a work in progress and the furniture which is dated is being replaced over time. We were looking forward to Sunday roast but it turned out to be uninspiring. The veg was boiled so was “water logged” and under cooked the meat and roasted veg was good and helpings were generous. Home made horseradish was extremely powerful. Not bad value for money but slightly disappointing overall.

Ordered three different meals. All very good, but one (gnocchi) wasn't very hot and looked as if it had been standing around for a while. Very tasty though. Minor thing. Will definitely be back. Very good value.
