We’re open every day from 9am – 4pm (last orders for hot food at 3pm).
Our friendly staff look forward to serving you in one of our many dining spaces inside or outdoors.
We have indoor & outdoor children’s play areas for young ones to let off steam and an undercover dog-friendly area as well as our dog friendly cabin so no one gets left behind!
Our delicious breakfasts and lunches are a treat for the whole family, with options including full English breakfast to sandwiches, jacket potatoes, soup, and our fabulous daily specials.
And, of course, our home-baked cakes and sweet treats always available to finish.

Our chef uses fresh produce from the Kitchen Garden at Olivers Plants whenever possible in our dishes.

Spot on every time! My daughter and I had two ‘farmer’s wife’ breakfasts with a flat white, pot of tea, cranberry juice and coke. Breakfast perfectly cooked, one with poached egg, one fried, granary and white toast. My flat white was perfect, (other venues very often not) .. Staff always cheerful and friendly. Spotlessly clean! ❤️

What a lovely find your café is; saw the sign for Oliver's whilst taking my mother to Colchester Hospital for her radiotherapy. Cannot tell you what a lovely boost it is coming to visit you and get something to eat and drink. The café is beautiful and the staff are all lovely. Coffee is great and the food delicious. Love going to Black hose cafe. Feed back this time only. We felt the ingredients have changed. Comparing to previous visits, The sausage were not the same as before, more peppery this time, the bubble and squeak was more potato than other ingredients. Cant help thinking Sour Dough was on the menu. Food still good, felt previous visits the food was more to our liking. Will still be back.

Service was bit slow . Unfortunately 3 of the 4 lunches were cold, but they did replace with hot dishes as quick as possible. But it meant one dinner was almost finished their meal by then . We came with 2 friends for breakfast on Friday 7th March. My husband and I have been many times before and always had a very good breakfast which is why we recommended it to our friends. Three of us had the Blackhorse breakfast, the tomatoes were not roasted, just warm and tasted really bitter, the sausages were underdone, our friend asked for crispy bacon but it was only just done.
Overall we were very disappointed as it was no where near your usual high standard.

This is our regular favourite for lunch and we have been coming here for the last 18 months so as you can guess they must be doing something right. Lovely food and staff. It can get rather loud when busy but not a lot they can do about that. Highly recommend.

We sat in the narrow part of the cafe's seating area at the far end and it was very noisy and sometimes our conversation was difficult to hear. This was largely due to a party of three at the opposite table but I appreciate the there is nothing the cafe management can to to alleviate this issue.
