This was my first visit to the Black Horse restaurant but will not be my last. I would recommend that you book in advance as when we arrived for a 12.30 booking we would not have got a table if we had not booked. It was extremely busy but this is testament to the popularity of the place. There is a good choice of food on the menu plus daily specials. Service was very good and everything was served in a timely fashion. The food was excellent and great value. I would thoroughly recommend a visit to the Black Horse.

Really lovely food . Service was slow. lady told us dessert menu was on blackboard but didn’t come back to get order. I had to go and ask a different server to come over. Overall a pleasant experience and we will come back as food is so good . I had the grilled plaice with new potatoes and mixed vegetables. It was cooked to perfection.

This is our favourite place to visit for our weekly lunch out. It is always nice and warm; there is a good variety of food to choose from, light lunches to full meals. The tea comes in a teapot (important for those from the older generation) and is of good quality. It is sometimes quite noisy when full but please don't let this put you off. We invariably book in advance online as it is often busy, so it is nice to be assured of a table. A previous reviewer asked for the side salad to be removed - I really like their salad - it is always fresh and comes with a tasty dressing. Pleasant, hard-working staff and the behind-the-scenes cooks also deserve our thanks.

It was lovely and warm in cafe on a freezing day . The welcome from the man who showed us to our table was great , so friendly and had a sense of humour , he spoke to us too as we left and that is such a lovely rare touch nowadays .
We didn’t get his name but he deserves a mention .
All the staff had a friendly approach.

We often meet friends at the BHC and all enjoy the experience with one exception common to many of a similar (advancing) age - the use of hard surfacing renders conversation difficult for those who depend on hearing aids. The ability to hear clearly is almost more important than all other aspects of such a venue.
