Would have been better if they had been open. So I was able to book a table for when they were closed so I turned up to a closed restaurant and their website said they would be open as well. Not an auspicious start. And very annoying

Bang average food and the premises were freezing! When we asked for the heating to be turned on, they responded with “we’ll ask the owner but he doesn’t like to put the heating on” - we could see our own breath and our toddlers hands were like ice!! Will not be returning!!!
Business Response:
Firstly, thank you for leaving a review! All reviews are very welcome god and bad as it makes our business aware of things we have done well or improvements and changes that need to be made. It is the co-owner who is writing this reply as we feel that it is better on this occasion. Unfortunately, an early 17th century timber framed building doesn’t heat at the same rate as a modern building would. This is a struggle that we are aware of and it has been commented on before. A new heater has been installed so that it heats quicker and more effectively but as you can imagine, the heating bills for small businesses like us are very expensive now and costs have to be cut somewhere and for that reason we are not wasting energy and have heating on overnight. The upstairs is a large space that will take time to warm up. The young lady who commented on the heating has been spoken to as this comment is not acceptable however the heating was turned on and the room should have heated up nicely. An ambient room temperature normally hovers around 12 degrees and with the ovens on downstairs and the heating turned on I would doubt that it would go down as low as 10 degrees. All food at Flour and Spoon is made fresh to order. We are using free range eggs from Sparlings Farm as we are hen owners ourselves and hate the cruel battery farming method. Not all yolks from hens are going to be an orange colour. This depends upon many factors including the hens diet, at what point in the year they are laying etc. We don’t have a microwave in the business at all and the eggs were made on a pan with Isle of Wight Garlic butter (not plain butter but contains smoked garlic). We don’t feel that salt is needed over a child’s food however if you feel that your child likes salty food then there is salt provided on every table upstairs to suit your requirements. The hangover bagel that was ordered consists of a seasoned fried egg, smoked bacon, a sausage, and the bagel itself which has salt ad- Overall: 7/10

Hiya, I really dislike giving not so positive feedback, that said I really want this business to flourish.
My fourth visit and not the best. The waitress didn't know what teas were in stock, managed to get that sorted but when it came to pouring the waiter didn't measure how much loose tea to add, I asked and he said he didn't know, after pouring hot water on the loose tea he immediately poured it into my cup, I had to ask him not to as it wouldn't have tasted of anything.
Every time I've visited I have not had anything to dry my hands on after visiting the toilet - it frustrating that this lets the experience down, plus the toilet roll holder was in bits on the floor, not a great impression.
During our visit the waitress was replenishing the clean cutlery into their holders, she didn't pick them up by the handle so anything on her hands would transfer to the part that people put in their mouth. We went to pay and had to wait ages to be served, it wasn't busy at all.
I'm really sorry, I can see how much love has been put into the food, bringing wholesome artisan baked goods to Chelmsford and I want to come back time and time again. Based on my last visit I hope that improvements can be made. The food was excellent and the take away hotcross buns were delicious.
Please don't take this negatively it's means to steer improvement, with so many places to visit in Chelmsford I don't want this place to be affected.

Business Response:
Dear Paula, thank you for your feedback and we apologise we didnt meet our usual high standards on this occasion. We have a few of new team members recently joined our company and are still learning on the job, including serving loose tea as its still a very new venture for our business and we apologise you experienced some of our tething problems. Please be assured we will be holding another loose tea training session over the weekend so everyone should be fully trained by your next visit. In regards to the toilets, it was not brought to our attention that the hand towel holder was jammed, which we fixed as soon as we noticed but we have already added regular checks avoid this situation again. Customers feedback is very important to us and we always welcome any comments from our customers if they notice something what shouldnt be as it is during the visit and if they kindly inform any of our team members, we have the chance to rectify this immediatelly. Unfortunately, for the same reason as stated above, we was not aware of the broken handle. We have taken note of the cutlery not being held by the handle and briefed our team mebers regarding this. We will pay better attention to this in the future. Thank you again on the great feedback on our food, we will continue to work on all areas of the business whilst maintaining the quality where we really hitting the nail on the head. As mentioned above, we do value any customer feedback and on this occasion we havent met your expectations, which I deeply apologise. As a gesture of our outstanding customer services, we would like to offer a Gift Card to use with your next visit. Please contact us directly via email at [email protected] where we will advise how to redeem this offer and when can we welcome you back. Wishing you happy Easter if we dont see you before and looking forward to welcome you back. Warmest regards, Rom Director / Founder- Overall: 7/10

Love this cafe but it’s very chilly upstairs, could do with some heaters for colder months. Also too many dogs allowed in when I visited last Saturday and children running around which made it difficult to hear my friend over a coffee.

Restaurant not open on Mondays… but was still able to book. Luckily went to the breakfast club instead!
Business Response:
Dear Camilla, I believe we responded your booking straight after you were able to book a table on Sunday at 12:11. Unfortunately not our fault on this occasion, little worm found her way into the system. At the end no one is perfect. We are glad you enjoyed your time at the Breakfast club... hopefully next time will be our turn. See ya! xx- Overall: 10/10
