This has been our second visit over the last few weeks and we have had a lovely experience both times.the food was lovely on both occasions . I would like to give a special mention to Olivia who dealt with our table. She was fantastic at her job . Friendly, enthusiastic , knowledgeable and nothing was a problem . My first time going to the Popinjay and safe to say I will certainly be back. Attended for lunch and immediately the staff made us feel welcome. Sat in a lovely decorated dining area, comfortable seats, and relaxing environment. The food was excellent quality and value. Staff very pleasant and courteous. Will most certainly be back for another lunchtime visit. Thank you for the lovely experience.

I had the lasagna which was vey dry. No Parmesan was offered. Overnight I experienced food poisoning which got worse over the next 24 hours and continued to get worse. Three days later I am still in bed ill. I contacted the popinjay & they never responded.

Attractive surroundings and decor and ample parking. Staff pleasant and attentive. The lunch menu was very reasonably priced. The presentation of the food was mainly attractive ( though the black pudding Bon Bon’s had clearly been sitting out for too long) and I believe the quality of the Indian menu was good, though the gulab jaman disappointed, being microwaved rather than deep fried, and overheated to the point of burning the mouth of one of my guests, a chef himself, who’d been looking forward to an authentic dish.
But as a vegetarian I was particularly disappointed: I had the choice of pizza (which was apparently served without any garnish , side salad or accompaniment) or carrot wellington- a bought-in dish which has been doing the rounds in various local restaurants . This was accompanied by elderly looking baby carrots (!!) boiled potatoes and undercooked long stem broccoli. Both the wellington, which had very little filling, and the vegetables were completely devoid of any moisture, be it sauce, gravy or even butter on the vegetables .
In fairness, the gin infused cheesecake tasted delicious but there was no means of accessing the base which had been rammed so tightly into the bottom of a glass that a spoon made no impression on it whatsoever- I had sympathy for the dish washer!
Though the place is lovely, it falls far short of my memories of the old Popinjay in terms of food quality and variety. I have to say I was a little embarrassed to have brought guests and as a vegetarian I am unlikely to return myself.
