The place was wonderful and unique and the food was delicious. Our server was very professional and could tell he genuinely enjoys working there.

I loved the vibe, service was excellent, drinks, apps and desserts wonderful. Personally, I'm not a big meat eater and I'm allergic to shellfish, so I wish there had been some less meat-focused dishes on the mains menu. But for sure I will return!

Disappointing. Despite great service, our expectation of chef quality exceptional food for the $$$$$ price point didn't come close to meeting the mark. Entrees had no complementary vegetables or presentation that took any additional skill or time.
Brussel sprout app had a well rounded taste profile with a lovely hint of lemon which added a surprising brightness to the palette.
Steak frites was simply too plain. Steak was okay, but not buttery smooth in flavour and didn't have the wholesome goodness of being grain fed natural beef. Fries seemed suspiciously like commercial made ones. For triple fry method they didn't have that extra crispy factor.
Wild sausage board although the sausage was superb in their taste profile their was no "colour added," touches. The garnishes and beds of polenta, potato mixed with the strong mustard and horseradish because they weren't pointed out by server. These then overly saturated those bases and threw the balance off the rails. Again, not enough vegetables to complement either entree.
Chocolate torte was very bland and much too dense. The berries were a very good counterpart, that by default became the best component of this dessert. And although it hit the not too sweet profile there was not enough cocoa or butter products in the recipe.
The cellular space became noisier then one would hope for as music level increased and patrons spoke louder to be heard above that background noise.
Server was professional and was also very personable, they shared insider restaurant basics and also offered to take our photo on our way out.

We had a reservation and there was no table for us. They tried to save face by giving us a table under the open stairs that are the only entrance to the restaurant. We did not accept this table as that's disgusting. That table was not given to any other patrons that evening. We did get an acceptable table about 15 mins later and they did have a temporary table first. We were given menus, but no one asked us if we would like anything to drink. When we did get our table, it took another half hour to get our drinks. Appetizers didn't take too long, but when we hadn't received our main course 2 hours later, we were getting very upset. Also, while we were sitting waiting for our drinks, a friend of the matre d' came in with his girlfriend. They received their drinks in no time, finish their meal, paid and left before we had recieved our mains. The food was good and in the end, they did compensate for the delay, but not sure if we will return.

We have eaten there before and loved it but this time not so much. Our reservation was for 5:30. We were seated right away. We ordered drinks and asked for water. Our drinks arrived in about 10 minutes. We again asked for water. Our server came and got our orders. Our waitress brought us side plates and silverware. Our starters arrived and we again asked for water and she finally brought us some and checked in to see if we liked our appetizers which we did. I ordered some game poutine as my main. I was so disappointed. It was supposed to have Quebec cheese curds and instead it had this huge hunk of cheese melted over the top. It was inedible. Sadly our waitress did not check in with us for about 15 minutes because I would have sent it back. My two guests did however enjoy their meals. Will I go back? Yes but it will never be so so early. It will not be till at least 6:30 as it looked like that was when all the staff was in. The food, they have the best risotto I have ever had.

Shrimp dish was very poor value - only 4 shrimp and 4 crostinis was very disappointing for a quite mediocre $22 shrimp dish.
The house wine smelt off but tasted fine.
Steak was under-seasoned and nothing too special while the hen was well done.
Fries were very well done with a great dip.
Service was great and our server was lovely.
Price for what we got was disappointing.

Its terrible that Im writing this but If the general consensus is that the food isnt good its hard to rate the value & overall experience. I discovered that everyone that had the surf & turf didn’t enjoy it. The mushrooms ,which were NOT listed on the menu ,were so over powering on the lobster that it was pungent. Plus one person has a terrible dislike and would of asked for it not on the food. It ruined their entire meal( this was mentioned to the server ) The table also agreed that the brussel sprouts were warm, dried out and tasted pre heated. The ceviche was delicious. A tuna main, again mildly warm and the rice was cold but otherwise good. I heard the pie w bone marrow was lovely. As well the cocktails were fabulous.
Overall it was an expensive night for food that was meh. Sadly, thats 10 people that wont go back or worse recommended it.

Amazing ambiance, amazing food & amazing service. My new favourite. Brussel sprouts & cauliflower apps were too good. Caesar salad and presentation was so unique. We all loved the cheese fried on top.
Tuna was the favourite but Cornish hen was so tender with delicious spices. Steak frites good too but a bit to fatty for us. Wouldn’t recommend.
Since it was my hubby birthday, they surprised him with a decedent dessert. Let’s not forget the cocktails which are well thought out.
Bravo. If you want a fun ambiance go this weekend. Cheers

It was my and my friends first time there, and I have to say it won’t be our last we found our favourite new spot! From the ambiance to the service to the food, it just feels a bit special. It was pretty full, but it did feel very intimate almost had a “secret restaurant “type feel to it. We will absolutely be coming back again!

My wife and I ate at Brothers Grimm Bistro last night. This is a basement restaurant with an interesting entry. Unfortunately our 2 person table was situated directly across from the busy bar and provided for no privacy. The table itself was very tiny and did not allow for anything more than our dinner plates and wine glasses. Our server (Cat) was very pleasant and helpful. Our appetizers were exceptional and clearly the best part of the meal. I ordered the surf & turf. The lobster was very good but the steak was salty and riddled with gristle. My wife had tuna which was very bland. Dessert was a nice surprise (wafer) It was light, tasty and not too sweet. Portions were very generous and prices were in line with other similar venues.

I went there yesterday with my husband to celebrate our anniversary. The restaurant gave a free dessert because that was a special occasion. It was amazing. There are not a lot of restaurant doing that. The owner is very friendly and kind. The restaurant is cozy and romatic. The food was amazing and tasteful. The food portion is actually big, I cannot finish all of them but I really love it. I definitely will come back and introduce it to my friends.

Great atmosphere, excellent customer service, we loved the live guitar player, however, food was overpriced, honestly it was just Ok.
The 5 Mozanbique/Portuguese shrimps tasteless, the steak a bit on the tough edge, the hen way too dry. Having said that, I would like to go back, perhaps trying something else from the menu.

Fantastic experience. The service was top-notch; the atmosphere was warm, cozy, elegant and inviting and the food was fine-dining at its best. The short ribs (daily feature) were tender and cooked in one of the best sauces I've ever had. The shrimp mozambique was similarly creative and delicious and the crafted cocktails were made with such thought and precision that they were truly a work of art. A++

The ambiance and overall vibe of the bistro were fabulous - upscale yet cozy. The staff were phenomenal! The food was decent, for the price I was expecting a bit more of the "wow factor", it seemed some flavours overpowered the main course (the cheeses on the burger were very strong that I couldn't taste the incredible blend of meats the burger included, and the pork belly main was yummy but needed some spice and acid to pair with the powerful pork belly taste).

Turn the lights up a bit, make sure drinks are on the table in less than 10min. Don’t blame the Bartender when you forget to place the order. The Shashimi and 3 Sausage plate were excellent. Fries were crap. A little Veg. Goes a long way. The noise level was something. Everyone was yelling. Good luck, won’t be back.

Really liked this place, tucked away downstairs in Hamilton, great ambience and decor. Food was excellent, especially risotto in a parmesan cheese basket, also Portuguese shrimp. Place was too busy for number of staff - they tried hard, including the owner, but overwhelmed and service was slower than it should be. Strangely, they added an automatic 18% for the tip, even though we were a party of 2. I questioned this, and was told it was always built in. Then of course the machine invites you to tip again with the usual choices. I don't like this, and it should not be done. I might have given 20% if I'm very happy with the service, but this left a bad taste in my mouth. The owner should be told that this is highly inappropriate for a party of two.......

The concept and setting is great, the staff were friendly and there were no mistakes made, the restaurant was clean. Seeing the cleanup area (?) while the rest of the space was obviously well thought out and designed was perhaps a bit strange. The menu was okay - although a bit scattered. The food itself is where things were let down. The shrimp was over cooked - the texture was rubbery, and it made me think they were reheated. The broth was good but the seasoning was off - too much garlic, and pieces of garlic rather than a more nuanced, complex garlic flavour. The cassoulet was ordinary. The beans were cooked well, the halved cherry tomatoes were a bit odd to see but the taste was good. The sausage flavour was too strong for my liking. Similar to the broth, the use of one spice (fennel I believe), dominated over everything else. The duck was fine but nothing stand out. The best item was the chocolate dessert - great chocolate flavour, not too sweet, and a great ratio of mousse(?) to cake. We love the place and the people, and would likely stop in for a drink if we were already in the area but we would not return for a meal.

Regrettably the experience was less than stellar. We had high expectations given the previous online reviews. What we experienced was an immature restaurant that was poorly staffed both at the front and back of the house. This resulted in inattentive table service (e.g. failure to remove dirty dishes without prompting, having to ask for citrus when addition bottles of sparkling water were brought to the table, failing to check in at the table in a timely manner, etc.). In short, although when seated we were welcomed in a warm manner throughout the evening as the restaurant filled we felt we became more of an annoyance. As for the back of the house, one of the biggest complaints was over salting. Other misses were very high acid levels and in the case of the game pie a thick poor crust with underbaked raw flour taste. In summary I feel that either this was either an off night due to understaffing or a restaurant that still needs some tweaks to justify the price points.

This is our first time reviewing a restaurant but we felt everyone needs to know about this hidden gem. We chose this restaurant to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary because of its high ratings. Everything from the brick and barrel ceilings and walls to the friendly and attentive staff exceeding our expectations. Our server was simply outstanding! We can't say enough about the delicious food and how satisfied everyone was afterwards. Highly recommend the Wild Mushroom Risotto and the La Mer Et La Terre - we're still talking about it!

Our first time to Brothers Grimm. The food was delicious and the setting is unique. We found the music a bit too loud and certainly at odds with the name Brothers Grimm and the dark/cellar setting which seems more suitable to Jazz vs. 50's & 60's pop tunes.
Only negatives were that our glasses of wine didn't arrive till we were almost finished our Entrees and the price ($18) of the cocktails. Neither of which will keep us from coming back to try more of the menu.

Albeit we were late to our reservation because I thought I booked it later, our hostess was super nice and didn’t cancel us. We also had the best dining experience ever. After leaving Toronto and settling in Hamilton it has been very difficult to find the kind of dining experience we were used to. Hats off to the chefs. We heard the owners were sitting behind us and gave them the kudos they deserved anyway.
It was by far the best meal I’ve had in a long time. 10/10!

Nice cellar-style vibe, good bar drinks from a very nice and attentive server/mixologist. Also a decent Italian pinot noir by the glass. My wife and I both had the steak frites (8oz sirloin). Flavour was alright but unfortunately the meat was chewier than you would expect for an 8oz $50 steak with substantial amounts of gristle. Fries were good. Aioli in a disposable plastic container at this type of venue was a bit of a presentation miss.

Loved our experience. Brussels sprouts were amazing. Just wish the steak could have been a little tastier/more tender. Husband liked his cassoulet. It was a little awkward though (since he’s not so tall) to eat it out of a high bowl. Despite this, we will be back as we really loved the ambience and the kind wait staff and FOH manager.
Oh, also the smoked lemonade cocktail was out of this world!!!

The cellar atmosphere was cool but, it was way too noisy. The service was rushed and not very attentive with cocktail glasses still crowding the table at the end of the meal. 1. The server did not introduce herself and was unable to make recommendations or describe the menu items adequately.
2. The setting was nice, the acoustics poor; it was difficult to hear conversation. The seating was also odd, one table situated sideways.
3. The shrimp appetizer was bad. The shrimp will old and mealy and the sauce cold; this was mentioned to the server who didn't know how to respond.
4. The frites were soggy and tasteless and the aioli mediocre; the steak, while done as reuested (medium rare) was 40% gristle. Being a perceived "signature dish", other reviews had commented on this also.
5. The tuna steak was tough and well overcooked; the rice was underwhelming.
6. The mocktails were average, but the same price as cocktails (which looked to be a smaller volume that we have seen in other restaurants)
We are used to paying high prices for good food and had anticipated a good meal; we were sorely disappointed and the meal was a belated Christmas Gift.

Busy night, but dreadfully understaffed. Lovely stone walled, brick barrel vaulted basement. Very loud, difficult to hear someone else talk. Extremely slow service (not server’s fault, short staffed so he was assigned too many tables). Kitchen seemed to struggle with volume. We were a party of four. Two appetizers arrived, other two appeared five minutes later. Food was decent but over priced. Ceviche was $28 for a small serving. Steak frite was $42 for a smallish strip loin and cold fries. Do not mind paying a lot for a really good meal, sadly this was not a really good meal. Had really hoped Brothers Grimm would be great, very disappointed.

Very nice interior, but in a dodgy part of town. Exterior difficult to spot.
Menu changed from what is on the website, item we were planning to order had been removed. Greeter explained 'website broken' with no apology.
Cornish game hen had a tasty coating but was dry and tough to carve, with many little bones. Served with a mountain of little fries. Poor presentation.
We would not return OR recommend this restaurant.
