Our beautiful restaurant 'Windows' is situated in the Centre for Hospitality at the Rotokauri Campus. It offers you the opportunity to dine in peaceful surroundings with a semi-rural backdrop.

Frequently Asked Questions
Please park your vehicle in the new visitor carpark off Gilchrist Street. This is allocated to visitors (2 hour maximum). You do not need a permit when using a visitor car park. If these are full, or you are going to be longer than 2 hours, You will need to pay & display while parking in any staff/student area. Disability parks are available as per the map also. Buses and large vans can park in the service bay marked with the yellow lines just past the main door to L Block.
Wednesday dinner run from 19 Feb 2025 until 30 April 2025 and then start on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 19th of August until 13 November 2025. Tuesday and Thursday lunches start 6 May 2025 until 7th of August 2025 when it switches to Wednesdays from 29 October 2025 until 3rd of December 2025 when the restaurant will close down for Christmas break.
Yes, there will be three themed banquets. Mid winter Christmas: 7/5/2025 Join us for traditional kiwi Christmas fare, without the sunburn and mosquitos. We came to Windows for a team lunch. Brandon was our waiter, we could tell it was his first time and noticed he was nervous (I would be too with us as your customers haha). Hei aha, he did great. I suggest he takes his time and repeat the orders back. I know how it feels on your first service as I did Culinary Arts at Weltec many moons ago. Keep perfecting your skills Brandon and remember to listen to your tutor. We also want to come back for dinner service in the new year :D Thanks to the front and the back of house. Well done to all the students who contributed to the making and prep of the delicious food had by all 9 of us on Tuesday evening. (Tue 4 Nov) The service was impeccable from start to finish - to the highest and above standards and faultless. All the students were extremely professional and very attentive. Each course (and all drinks) were served promptly and we were all very impressed to dine here - more so than at any other restaurant we would normally dine at for any occasion. Compliments to the chef/s in the kitchen. Every student and the tutor deserves a pat on the back for a wonderful birthday dinner had by myself and my whole family. The ambience was perfect, The candles and birthday song were also 100/10. It was also beautiful to see what nice clean and modern buildings and facilities you have at Windows Restaurant and at the Unitec itself. Thank you very much :-) P.S Upon leaving the carpark with happy full bellies, our group reflected and commented on the value for money for a wonderful faultless evening. We would happily dine again. Keep up the awesome work!

Food was fantastic - above expectations. And also value for $$ was superb. At a guess our server, though good, was early in her studies. So nothing dramatic that was wrong, just a few wee tweaks that would help to elevate the event. We asked for water, she served water to the one that asked. As she was leaving, a 2nd person asked for water, which she obliged. A 3rd person at our table of 4, but she didn't realise ... and walked away. Ideally she would have filled everyone's glass (asked or not) and left the jug on the table. Or she would have been hanging around so she would notice we were out of water. Also, always serving utensils and plates of food from the right of each patron. As I said, very little tweaks would be nice. Thank you for a great lunch.

The food was delicious! The attendant was fairly attentive although we did have to gain her attention to ask for another round of drinks. Otherwise, I could not fault the service. Ambience could be made better by playing some music. I did notice that one of the waitresses obviously knew members at a table next to use and I saw her crouching down and eating food from their table. Not a very professional look, if I wasn't kaimahi at Wintec, I would not be very impressed!

The main buffet meal was amazing, was absolutely beautiful, couldn't fault any of it. The dessert was presented really lovely, but we didn't like the taste of it, 3 others that also attended also felt the same, I think Pavlova and icecream would have been much better, the service was excellent, Thank you for your efforts much appreciated.

We loved the food! Beautiful cooked and presentation was great. We thought the chicken breast in the burger was very thick and could have been sliced thinner. We also would have liked some more information on arrival about the course that the students were involved in for thoes that did not know. Overall a great experience and will be back again :)

The food was absolutely fabulous. Service by our waiter was courteous and polite and everything we asked for was brought to the table timeously. Bear in mind that this is a training restaurant, so we engaged in conversation with the waiter and provided words of encouragement which seemed to relax him. Overall, wonderful evening and we've booked again!

Rating as a training restaurant: this is great value. As the servers and cooks are students, I think overall it rated well. Any concerns or discrepancies were corrected, we provided feedback on the individual server and spoke with tutor. The music was relatively loud and the server softly spoken. As a group of three, we will definately be returning for another delicious, excellent value lunch.

Good value for money. Very prompt service (almost too quick at times) with a clearly nervous waitress who was still learning the art of making conversation whilst taking orders etc. Overall a generally pleasant experience that we would recommend to others.
