We have used the Rose and Thistle seven times recently for both lunch and dinner. It has always been of a high standard. This visit with guests who had not been there was hugely disappointing. We were asked what we wanted to drink before we had sat down and told again before we sat, that two specials were not available. Clearly, if the R and T is closed on Thursdays, the kitchen was being run down. Our guests said they would not rush back. Chris, the owner was working on the bar with a few customers. As a regular user I would have expected him to say hello at some point. He did not. Very disappointed overall.

Very limited menu for Sunday Lunch. Very little choice of main courses, particularly for vegetarians - just one vegetarian main course and no fish. The apple crumble crust was not cooked properly. There was a problem with paying the bill, the bill showed £145.60 but the card reader charged £146.26 - small difference but there was no offer to amend the amount charged!

Really cosy pub with a bar and a restaurant area. Low ceilings, warm fire, decent beer, good friendly service and good food. My personal recommendation is the steak and kidney pudding. You will find many pubs offering a steak and kidney pie, but not many offering a traditional suet pudding or using such good quality steak. Bracket this with a cheese souffle and a crumble and you needn't eat for two days.

We were meeting family and needed a venue mid-way. As neither party new any of the New Forest pubs, I chose the Rose and Thistle based only on the quality of its menu. It did not disappoint, everything was fantastic. A delicious three course lunch was had by all. My husband is a chef and objects to paying good money for average food. This was anything but average. A really beautiful setting with delightful staff.
We were seated by the door and with the draught my kids were freezing cold and no blankets were available. The food was very good. I had the Cheese Soufflé for starter which was fabulous topped off with the Suet Pudding which was equally as good. My wife chose the Sirloin which was cooked to perfection although lacking flavour. Overall a great experience topped off with a few pints of ale.

We all had burgers, which were generously filled but the buns were a little stale and the actual meat pattie overcooked, so overall a little disappointing. Chips were amazing. We have been coming to your pub for years. This time the food wasn't so good. My wife's burger was extremely dry. My haddock was fine but the chips for both of us weren't very nice and are obviously bought in. Bit surprised also that whilst you had sugar for coffee, you had no sweeteners. So this time not a good experience I'm afraid.

Staff were brilliant and very friendly, the food was amazing, especially the steak & kidney pudding! The crumble was also delicious. Only downside was Guinness isn’t served. Will definitely be back.

As always, the food is excellent! We prefer to sit outside and feel safer doing so. The Covid-19 set-up is handled brilliantly and the staff coped really well. We'll be doing it again!
