Great to be back in the garden at the Rose and Thistle. Good menu that offers a range of options from light lunch, through to upper end dining that goes beyond "usual" pub offerings. A little more expensive that some, but you get what you pay for and well worth it. For ale lovers, there are usually 2 or 3 decent options, including Timothy Taylor Landlord on my last visit.

Very limited menu for Sunday Lunch. Very little choice of main courses, particularly for vegetarians - just one vegetarian main course and no fish. The apple crumble crust was not cooked properly. There was a problem with paying the bill, the bill showed £145.60 but the card reader charged £146.26 - small difference but there was no offer to amend the amount charged!

The food was delicious but the ambiance was lacking. We sat in the entrance room which was dimly lit and cold despite it being a summers evening and the table was just outside the mens toilet which wasn’t very pleasant. I appreciate that it is an old building and therefore a bit quirky. I would visit again if these issues had been addressed.

I have always loved the Rose and Thistle, affectionately known as the RAT. I was treated to lunch on Tuesday so suggested we went to the Rose and Thistle. I only wanted a light lunch so ordered the crab bruschetta from the starter menu priced at £10.95. Quite pricey so I was expecting a reasonable portion, however there was just one small bruschetta with about a tablespoon of crab meat on the top - devoured in 2 mouthfuls. Not good value, I was too embarrassed to complain as I was not paying. If the waitress had informed me that there were more lunch options on the back of the menu I could have had a crab sandwich for the same price, far more satisfying!

First time back since before the Pandemic. Fabulous as usual - high standards all round maintained. Chris is the perfect host - rushed off his feet but nothing too much trouble. The Steak and Kidney Pudding together with fresh vegetables is unique amongst the places we eat - thanks Natalie. The wine is simply better than we seem to be able to buy - smooth and rich. The Sticky Toffee Pudding is better than we get anywhere - eaten with custard and cream.
Since you ask needs for "improvement" -
1. prices have increased as have many commodities - we still think they justify their prices but caution should be exercised on the cost to customer in relation to inflation and increased alternative costs to family budgets.
2. the Sticky Toffee Pudding - great but I felt the "sponge" part had reduced in size
However the Rose and Thistle remains at the top of the Premiership of places we eat despite my norm of Steak and Chips.

So great to be back at the R&T after such a long lock-down! Really take my hat off to Chris and his team for the phenomenal efforts they have gone to to make their pub a safe place to be. Not only is this the best pub/restaurant for miles around but the team have true guts and integrity. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Good basic menu plus excellent specials (I had delicious pigeon breast), beautifully presented on the plate. Very friendly and attentive service. Very good value for money. Warm country pub ambience, or sit in the garden - set in a picturesque village.

Not much to choose from the menu, slow service over prised for what it was, very small amount of vegetables, carrots, 3 potatoes, small beetroot very unimaginative for money. Parking difficult, wouldn’t go back.

Everything great…esp charming service from all. Makes a real difference. Food delicious and decent vegetables with main course is also a differentiator.
Only downside was that we had the table by the door, but will ask for a different one next time.
