The Farmers Boy Inn is an award winning, family run country pub, restaurant and hotel located in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. - When is the big ugly challenge and how do I book?
- We do the Big Ugly Burger Challenge every last Thursday of the month. BUB Challenge is £30 per person to enter, get £20 back if you master the challenge in 30 minutes. A deposit of £10 is required for every participant.

We had a wonderful experience for my mums birthday, they put a decoration, a happy birthday board on the table and even a throne for her to sit on!
Being gluten free, she was impressed she could have a pie and a crumble for dessert. We all enjoyed the food and the Irish lady who served us was really friendly and helpful.

We went to The Farmer’s Boy on a quiet Tuesday lunchtime in January which is a month, I guess, that is always quiet after Christmas We had pre-booked a table for a specific time. We were, as we always have been, given a very friendly greeting by the staff who were very understanding about our friends being delayed by at least an hour due to an accident on the M5. We had a lovely table by the fire. This pub has a lovely relaxed feel to it. Very comfortable chairs; polite but not intrusive staff; nice wine. A lovely place to be on a chilly January afternoon. The food was very good. The Farmer’s Boy is renowned for its pies which we would highly recommend. They cater for vegetarian pie lovers too! There are alternatives to pies on the menu if you prefer something else and a Specials Board which had 5 or 6 dishes including fish (I think - (I don’t eat fish)) and vegetarian options. We aren’t locals but The Farmer’s Boy is well worth making a little effort to get too. Great staff, great ambience and great food.

We went for lunch for my Aunt’s 94th birthday. She said it was the best meal she had for years and the best birthday. The staff were welcoming and friendly and coped with her “requests” with a smile. The pies were superb and amount just right. Thank you as it made her day. We will be back.

Had a very enjoyable visit to The Farmers Boy. Everything was great, the food is always delicious and has such wonderful surroundings. The only suggestion to be made is the ladies toilets weren't very well maintained. One cubicle the toilet seat was broken. In both cubicles the cleanliness wasn't up to scratch. So if this could be improved that would be very beneficial to The Farmers Boy.

I had seen this inn on Four in a bed a few years ago and have wanted to come here for a meal. Then I saw it on the Hotel Inspector. I had the roast beef with steak pie. All I can say is DELICIOUS!! This was our first visit to The Farmers Boy, having driven past over many years on journeys to & from Gloucester. If only we had known just how excellent the hospitality is we would by now have become regulars. As they say “It’s never too late to join the party”
We selected a Steak & Burger from the menu, which arrived in good time & were outstanding. Both cooked to perfection, portion size was generous with appropriate accompaniments.
I have enjoyed many burgers from various purveyors, claiming superiority of their offering, however the Farmers Boy “Prime 100% British Beef Burger” is the juiciest, most succulent, flavoursome, I have ever eaten. Thank you Chef, an absolute triumph.

The FMI is one of our favourite places to eat, even though we aren't local, the drive is always worth it.
We always get a warm welcome on arrival, great service and delicious food wether it's our favourite pies or a good roast dinner on a Sunday and the yummiest of cheesecakes ever !
Great selection on the food & drinks menu, warm cosy ambience, happy staff which is always lovely to see.
Definitely recommend this little gem.

Excellent service. Relaxed atmosphere. The only reason for a 9 for the food was 3 out of four of us found the pies a bit heavy on the pepper but it won't stop us from returning or ordering some of your pies to take home.

Turned up a little bit early, Phil (Welsh) accommodated us straightaway, service and food absolutely superb. Our waitress, didn’t get her name but she was from the states was really really polite and helpful. Would highly recommend

WOW! what a beautiful & lovely place, i was on my holiday, it was recommended to go by my host at the location i stayed at, - The bartender was welcoming & friendly, he went above and beyond to make my experience as good as it could be. i had puppy with me as well and they didn't make that a problem. If i lived closer i would definitely return regularly! The cheesecake as well was AMAZING! thank you for such a lovely experience at your pub!
