Maison Bleu has the potential to be so much better. The positives-free parking, cool decor, low noise level, friendly wait staff. The challenges-entrees came out lukewarm; appetizer cheese plate for $25 had 3 cold pieces of cheese that would’ve been so much tastier at room temp; coq au vin was not very flavorful; potatoes/asparagus sides were just barely warm and the lemon tart was runny. If food was hot and more flavorful, this would’ve been great for the price we paid. Hope to try it again to see if the feedback is being listened to. Have read similar reviews from months ago.

Honestly felt a little silly ordering a burger at a French bistro. But my oh my! It was the best cheeseburger I’ve ever had in my life. The Wagu beef was just pink enough but not bloody. The brioche bun was perfectly toasted. The lettuce was crisp. The cheese melted in an almost buttery way. To put ketchup on this burger would’ve been an insult. The julienned fries were the ultimate complement. Am I raving too much about this burger? Absolutely not.

Next time I will ask if Michael Schultz is cooking. He obviously wasn’t in the kitchen the night I was there! Scallops were not cooked properly. Seared well but then raw in the center. The celery root purée (the starch of the night?) was brown. The hand cut fries, which we asked to have well done because we wanted them crunchy, were shoved into a strange bowl, rendering them mushy. The best thing of the night was the black garlic aïoli that came with the fries! Disappointed all the way around.

The food and the service were very good. Also the venue was good; it is new and very light which is a pleasure compared with many dark, depressing locations where you can hardly read the menu. Our meal was spoiled by other selfish noisy people. There were three of them, two of whom spoke in such loud voices it was impossible for us to talk. The waitress was very understanding and moved us to a table in a separate room for dessert. Of course the restaurant cannot be blamed for the selfish, noisy behavior of people who perchance visit the restaurant at the same time as ourselves. One other couple asked to be moved to a different area in the restaurant before they had read the menu. What can be done? Unfortunately there is no answer to how to deal with selfish, unthinking noisy people. But the restaurant suffers because it spoils the dining experience for many guests. We would happily go again to this restaurant but simply pray that we never come across the three offensive people ever again.

Highly recommend!!! My two friends and I enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Maison Blue! Everything was flawless - amazing food, gracious service, fabulous atmosphere and loved the French music!!! Wonderful salad, perfectly grilled steaks and crispy truffle fries! Only regret is that we live three hours away!!! I will definitely return, the next time I am in Cape May! What a gem!!!

This review is for the owners with a few tips. First and foremost I’d like to congratulate you on your opening. The food of any restaurant is the star and yours is exceptional. Obviously the chef is well trained and takes his work dead serious. I saw him a few times, even serving our neighbors. Nice presence. Our server, Sara-Jane was excellent as well. She was friendly, informative, timely and gracious. The reason I said this review is for the owners is I have two minor suggestions to make your restaurant better. First, the tables are very slick on top and when water condensation runs off one’s water glass or other drinks the water runs all over the table and even off the table on to the customer’s clothing or floor. I kept wiping the table off. Honestly, some nice white table clothes would fix this problem and also soften the otherwise dark feel of the space. I’m sure there is cost involved in tablecloths but it would be functional and set off the look of the space. It would also be fitting for such a nice restaurant to have them on the tables. Take, for example, Tishas, just minutes from your establishment, they have cloths on their tables and it’s so nice. The second thing I suggest is to get rid of the QR code for the menu. Three of the six tables around us asked for hard copies of the menu anyhow which u had. Your restaurant is too nice to ask guests to have to pull out their phones and pull up the menu. Your have hard copies anyhow, just use them. The QR code clutters your small tables anyhow. Most of the guests, or at least what will be become your core supporters will be guests in their 50s and 60s and they would definitely prefer a paper menu. Doesn’t everyone complain about ppl being on their phones all the time, particularly at restaurants anyhow? Why promote it? Anyhow, we will return but wanted to give your some honest feedback. We have been eating in Cape May for 20 years and we would rank your new place right up their with the best!

Great experience! We were really impressed with the quality of the food and service, especially during the first week. Recommend adding a few more songs to the house playlist and maybe removing Gainesbourg’s Je T’aime (although it gave us a laugh). Looking forward to going back!

We were excited to try The Hugh’s new restaurant. There were some hiccups. First of all the menu is a bit underwhelming. We frequent another French bistro in CT so that’s the comparison bar. A litmus test is when we cannot decide what to order because all options look great! This is not the case here. As an aside we saw a very gracious patron send a steak back to the kitchen and the waitress scraped it onto another plate to return it. What??! My husband’s halibut was good and a generous portion, my coq au vin was good but nothing out of the ordinary. Celery root purée was delicious. When time for dessert arrived our waitress offered the options and immediately turned and left the table before we could even get in a word !! She left and never returned for at least 10 minutes. We passed on dessert. My husband NEVER leaves less than 20% tip. Usually 25-30% is typical. He left 15% for a tip which was generous. Our waitress needs to be re-trained on hospitality and dining room decorum. There are so many fantastic places to dine here, I don’t think we will be back anytime soon.

We read about Maison Bleue Bistro (Cape May, NJ) recently and decided to give it a try. Sooo glad we did! To start we had the Mushroom Fricasee and Fisherman's Egg, both were absolutely delicious. Our mains were Surf and Turf and the special Halibut all cooked perfectly. The cherry on top of the evening was the amazing crème brûlée! We enjoyed everything so much that we went back 2 days later and did it all over again! This time we had the Grass fed Wagyu cheeseburger and Duck L'orange, and of course the crème brûlée. Thanks to Sarah Jane, Anna and all of the staff for a great experience!

We wanted to love this new restaurant in our hometown but were disappointed. The decor and ambiance were terrific. Our Coq au Vin was wonderful as were the desserts. However, looking over the menu with an eye to future visits, we felt there were not enough fish options to bring us back. The waiters did not seem well trained for a fine dining experience. I did not appreciate having my empty starter plate sit in front of me after I finished it until my entree came out, and then have the server say, " Can you hand me that and we'll swap plates?" The server poured our first glass of wine but never refilled our glasses. No extra water was ever brought beyond our initial glass. The servers were friendly and it was a busy night so I understand to some extent, but it took away from the experience.

Having been to Jardin twice, when we had excellent experiences with wonderful, exceptional food for every course, we had very high expectations for Maison Bleue, as the chefs are the same for both restaurants. We were very disappointed. Our one entree, the fluke was the only highlight for us (and we both ordered it but there was only one entree left). All other food was good, but average, nothing exceptional, as we were expecting. The price, on the other hand, was too high for average food. We will not be returning to Maison Bleue.

Dining room is just too loud- our server recognized that a rowdy table near us might be too loud and she suggested to us that we could move to the front porch area, which we gratefully accepted, but then another very loud party in that room also made it impossible to carry on any normal-volume conversation with my husband. Unfortunate that the acoustics are so bad. Food was wonderful, the mushroom fricasee was fantastic, but I don’t think we’ll be back, just because the ambience is so distracting.

Mediocre food that does meet a true French Cuisine standard. French Onion Soup below average. Had to question whether Gruyère was used. Coq au Vin did not have depth of flavor of true Demi-glacé. Scallops we’re too small to justify price and drowned in unpleasant sauce. Dessert tart, while good, was too small a portion. Service was attentive but far too casual for fine dining. Overall, would not go back.

This review is not letting me pick numbers. Loved the ambience, the value was ok the food and menu was disappointing. We ordered a decent amount. The bread seemed day old, the pasta dish w scallops ( 30+16) was not hot, my oysters were good but almonds did not add to it and the lemon although grilled was weird on plate. I had mussels which were hot and tasty would have offered as an appetizer. The steak tartare was good but not sure what the egg was creating. It was an ok experience but I would not go back but wish them well!

The salad was lovely with light dressing. The walnut pate had only a scent of liver, mostly filler made of walnuts.The hamburger was over cooked and tasteless. French fries were too salty. The coq au van was dry. The chicken did not have a velvety texture. As a chief ,that we were told several times, worked at Le Bec Fin should know better. The water selection was described as you would describe a wine list,really ridiculous. Nice interior design and music. Lastly, although it is legal in NJ to add a charge for using a credit card, it was Not posted anywhere on any menu or in the front of the restaurant.

Did you let the server know about the burger being overcooked? The walnut pate is plant based it says it on the menu as it also states we offer a 4% discount for cash payments it also says it on the front door. If you would have told your server we could have fixed these issues.

Duck confit (my favorite) not crisp, just fatty rubbery skin. Steak half tough meat half hard fat. White bread in a basket. Chicken was okay. Fries good. Service very good. Nice atmosphere

This was our first visit to your restaurant since you took over space from Icaro. Overall everything was very good. There was a credit card charge snafu but was handled quickly. So will be by again sometime.

Understanding it was Rest week.. but running out of a main entree and dessert was disturbing. The restaurant is very well decor but extremely noisy . Hard to have conversation..we will return. But hopefully we pick a not so loud night.

Arrived on time for my reservation but had to wait 30 minutes to be seated (understandable but still did not appreciate it.) When seated wait staff paid no mind to our table instead favoring and conversing with tables around us ( a good 15 minutes before we were acknowledged). Overall good food but service needs improvement.

Unfortunately there was an oversight in booking and we generally never have guests wait as we appreciate our guests taking the time to book a reservation it is our goal to seat promptly. Our service is as much of a priority as the quality of our cuisine so we apologize you didn't get the attention you deserved and moving forward we are taking all of your criticisms into account and will be sure as we move forward to correct these issues and make your next visit is coupled service that matches the quality of our chefs food !

I have a dish was delicious on my third visit but the presentation of the duck appetizer could have been better. Hoping this restaurant thrives! I am a big fan of Parc in Philadelphia and I am now a big fan of Maison Bleue!

All the food was good. The dauphinoise potatoes were undercooked. My fiance didn't care for the kale when the waitress told us what was the vegetable. I would have expected her to say they can leave it off the plate. She did not. He took it off the plate and placed it on the side plate. The waitress seemed to scowl at that and did not remove or even ask to remove the plate. We sat on the enclosed porch. Thank goodness because the small dining area was sweltering hot. The music was nice. I had the Coq Au Vin. The chicken was cooked nicely but there were not carrots cooked in with the recipe, they were a vegetable on the side. All in all it was a decent meal but at a huge cost. We probably will not be back.

We loved the chic ambiance, the cozy glamor, and the attentive service, but most especially the food was delicious. We needed a quiet place to eat with our almost 100 year old grandmom and an early dinner fit the bill. Bonus - the fixed price menu for early birds was a fantastic price point.

The only thing French about this place is the name. No escargot on menu. Waitress said she is “pushing for it”. Huh? Duck was tough and four small pieces. Came out lukewarm and had to go back to heat it. What chef allows cold or lukewarm food to be delivered to a table. Very disappointed.

Main problem. Seated in small room containing a very loud group of 7 women (bridal party?). The group of adults next to them requested a move to another room. I know a restaurant is reluctant to criticize customers, bot how about honoring all the other guests?

The place has been beautifully remodeled. The staff is wonderful.Attentive without being intrusive. They were so lovely. The oysters were a little dry as the liquor had not been saved. The mushroom appetizer was delicious! The duck was good and nicely presented. The coq au vin was tasty but just a little dry. This is their first season and I have a feeling it will improve as they continue

Loved the Mushroom bisque and the Fluke. The Duck a L’orange was okay but the sauce was a little too tart for our tastes. Your mileage may vary. Service was great. It is becoming one of our favorites in Cape May.
