My wife and I were staying overnight at The Lawrence and had dinner. The staff were very friendly but professional. We were asked on several occasions if everything was ok? The hotel felt very homely and we were very relaxed. As part of the deal we could choose two courses from the menu. We chose the black pudding and truffle mushrooms as a starter. For the main course we both had the Fish pie. I chose to pay for a dessert and had the Eton mess. All the food was hot, where appropriate, and tasty. The Fish pie was sensibly sized and had lots of fish in it, this may seem an odd thing to write but there have been occasions when we have had fish pie that has been more sauce than fish! The Mess was exceptional with chewy meringue, bringing back memories of my childhood. During each course we were asked if everything was ok? With regard to hotel in general, it was neat, clean and well decorated. The reception area was actually quaint. The room was very good and the shower magnificent. The only thing I would warn about is the stairs are very steep and quite narrow. This is typical of that style of property. Overall we had an incredible stay and have already recommended the hotel to others.

The Lawrence is a beautiful, peaceful hotel. The staff were exceptional, the young waitress and waiter who served us were a credit to their families and the hotel.
The food was superb, couldn’t fault a thing.
A nice little surprise was the guest kitchen!!! Having toast at 12am because we were peckish!
We will definitely return for some R&R!

What can I say… we went especially for the sharing platter Sunday lunch and it did not disappoint, absolutely delicious, plenty to eat and everything tasted amazing, Sunday lunch is my go to I love it and this has now become my favourite, loved it. Actually very enjoyable from being seated in the lounge with our menus to being tactfully removed to the lounge while the table was cleared-sorry we don’t get let out often. Food was amazing and price wise very reasonable. Now of an age where every one seems very young but the young lad who served us was a natural. Never lurking around but always there when we needed him.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much to ask of them. The venue is fabulous...very quirky!! We had a little issue with a main course as part way through my son spotted a hair in my fork ful of mash I had just started to scoop off my plate. Obviously it ruined my meal but the staff were very good about it and offered a free dessert which was excepted. Everything else gave our family a good evening out.
I do have a question in that we booked online, stated one of us had Coeliacs and it was someones birthday. What is supposed to happen to that information given?

Once again really enjoyed the meal. It’s nice to sit and relax in the lounge for a drink first before going through for the meal.
Our only disappointment was the dog menu. Last year Humphrey enjoyed proper chicken and vegetables and we were really looking forward to treating him.
But the menu has changed now to dog food. Dogs shouldn’t be given dog food that they’re not used to, new dog food has to be introduced slowly over a few weeks as it can upset their stomach. So we had to pass, and felt sad for Humphrey and relieved he didn’t understand. Fortunately I always carry his own food when we go for meal so he was ok. But he would have enjoyed chicken and veg more!

My only comment would be that the food was a little slow to the table. It didn’t bother us as we we were talking and the gap between the main and dessert was welcomed. However, if you are in a bit of a hurry this may not be what you need.

Mike, Claire and Josh made us so welcome. The Lawrence is a gorgeous and you can tell that everyone takes great pride in keeping it this way. The food choice we had on a Thursday £30 deal was impressive, even though we just went for the JFK burgers - and peri peri fries very tasty, would recommend. 5 Star with Hettie being an added delight.

This was our first visit to The Lawrence having recently moved our business into the town and I must say we were very pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious and really excellent service. Highly recommend the sticky toffee pud! Thank you to Michael for making us feel so welcome.

Not one to usually give 10/10 for everything but the service, drinks and food were all top quality. The burgers were absolutely insane!! Raffy who was serving us was so lovely and attentive as well and the assistant manager who’s name I’ve gone blank on, he was so lovely and polite, even recommended a few things on the menu to us. Keep up the good work!

Our only small niggle was that the room was hot through the night and no window to open. We realise that it was entirely our fault though. Everything else was excellent and you should be so proud of your courteous, helpful and friendly staff making our stay so enjoyable. Thank you all.
