Tucked amid the beautifully landscaped grounds of Heisler Park just steps from the Pacific, the stunning location of Las Brisas in Laguna Beach is worth a trip in itself. Once you arrive, prepare to be swept away not only by the gorgeous ocean views, but by a romantic setting, gracious service, and an enticing menu of Mexican Riviara cuisine. Chef Aurelio Sanchez’s menu is a treasure trove of culinary history, with recipes culled from the 3,000 miles of Mexico’s west coast. Specialty dishes include feisty Camarones Tampiquenos, prawns sautéed in spicy chardonnay-garlic sauce, and Tostones de Tenera, veal medallions topped with breaded tomato slices and chile de arbol in a cognac chanterelle mushroom sauce. Regardless of what guests order, they are sure to be wooed by the rich flavors of Mexico and the rich views of the shoreline.

Always a winner
My wife and I each have our favorite restaurants for different reasons. Mine is Casanova in Carmel and hers is Las Brisas in Laguna. For Sunday brunch, the answer is clearly Las Brisas. Expect to activate every sense. The food and service are both excellent as is the setting. My recommendation is to make a day of it. Parking is somewhat limited but valet parking is available. If you choose to park on the street, be prepared to make a few trips to the parking meter. Las Brisas is a fabulous experience. Great bar, excellent food and friendliness, fresh salt air and beautiful surroundings. A walk along Laguna's incredible coastline after eating only adds to the experience. Like most things, it is what you make of it. If you love life and all it's treasures, you'll have a great time.
