Butakun is one of our favourite spot in Newcastle - excellent both on ramen and fresh sushi, but the best really is the super friendly staff! Tip: Spinach Sesame salad is delicious as starter.

We were warmly greeted upon arrival and quickly seated at our table. The waiting staff were polite and attentive, answering our menu questions and giving advice. Our order was served in good time. The food was of very food quality, well prepared and full of flavour. The portion sizes were very good. Overall we had a very good dining experience and at good value for money.

Great food, however it was all served at the same time, which is a shame, plus there wasn't room on the table for all the dishes - the seared nigiri in particular was good as was the sashimi. The atmosphere is not great, if the lighting was lower it would create more of an ambience. Best Japanese I have had in Newcastle though. Thank you.

Overall excellent. My 4th visit and will plan to return soon. Great to have an NCL restaurant with a range of sake's. For the ramens be great to be offered 3 firmness options with the noodles? Ramen-centric places typically offer 4 sometimes even 5 levels of noodle firmness. How about - regular, firm & extra firm - or even just regular & firm would be great to see. Only minor complaint was I was sat on a table for 4 near the staff door. You can hear what sounds like music coming from the kitchen. If perhaps they could try to add some soundproofing to that door that would be a nice touch.
