Whilst we were expecting a “small shower” we didn’t think it would be that small !! The bedroom was a good size and comfortable. Very quiet, but disappointing to find the hotel in complete darkness - no bar - when we returned from Thursford Show on the Sunday night . However the location for the show was great.

We booked via the website which said Sunday lunch was £23 for two courses but when the bill came it wasn't showing this. We queried it and were told the offer was no longer available. However, they took our drinks off the bill as a gesture of goodwill.

We have visited the Black Lion on bank holiday Monday for many years . Unfortunately yesterday was not good. No specials board. Soup off menu , food went cold in under a minute, was meant to be crab & king prawn , no sign of any crab & only 3 prawns for £18 .there was a freezing draft blowing throw . Feel I will be reluctant to return now .

Lovely quirky hotel. Loved the decor. Room absolutely fine, loved the biscuits and tea and coffee. En-suite very tired. Bar, dining room great, beautifully decorated. Staff nice but morning lady too busy to keep asking for more butter, more coffee etc. Poached eggs over cooked, toast dry, small amounts of butter which meant every table asked for more. . Main breakfast average. Roast dinner night before very good. Overall, good stay but not great.

Great atmosphere, excellent food. Service a little haphazard but didn’t involve any over-long waits. In other words, the kitchen’s sorted but front-of-house needs a little more work! We’ll return though. Like other reviewers, the 10 per cent service included system is a bit off in this day and age. Of course, one has the choice of asking it to be removed to allow diners to make up their own minds but you’ve got to be brave!

Although my son only had one course (the steak, with a £6 supplement) we were told that we had to pay for the fixed 2 courses for him. When I said I felt £30 for a steak and veg was pretty unfair, and they ought to be clearer on this on the menu, the waitress got pretty hostile, said it was obvious, and it was their 'policy'.
So, if its a pubs policy to monumentally rip off their customers and then be rude about it, then they can do without our future custom

Our menu on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday is a fixed 2 or 3 course. This would have been evident on the menu presented to you at the table at time of ordering. It is very clear 1 course is not offered. I understand my staff member explained this to you politely and without an aggression. It is worth noting we operate as a restuarant and bar, not a pub. I am sorry you feel "ripped off" but perhaps reading the menu properly would have saved any embarrassment on you part.- Overall: 9/10

We enjoyed a very good meal at the Black Lion. The food was excellent. The welcome was warm and genuine. The wine list was varied. The service was good despite being really quite busy, especially for a Thursday evening. Being brought Green tea instead of Mint tea was the only disappointment. We will certainly book again.

We used to use The Black Lion quite regularly but after a couple of poor meals stopped going. Having noticed that the pub had new owners and a new chef we thought we'd give it a go again. We had a very pleasant meal, lovely squid starter with an aloe that packed a punch, followed by salmon and chicken - both were tasty and came with a decent portion of veg! The seating area at the front of the pub looks cosy with big armchairs near the fire. The dining are was warm and cosy thanks to a roaring log burner and is nicely decorated.
We will certainly return.

Hi, the prawn cocktail was very sloppy and tasteless. We were told the doors locked at 10.30pm. We rushed back to arrive at 10.20 to find everything shut and the bar locked off. A big disappointment as we had seen a great show and a drink by the fire would have been super. Breakfast was excellent though thanks.

A very loud dining room, not so much due to the company, but our fellow diners. Starter OK, main course very good indeed. Half of the staff were very good as well, half of the staff came across as they didn't want to be there. Were I ask for a review without components I'd say 7.5 out of 10, but it's very clear that there are resources in the kitchen to be a 12+ out of 10 if sound levels were taken care of and some staff were moved. Prices might be adjusted should there be the opportunity to. Excellent wines though!

The food was excellent. We had quite a while waiting for our meal to come to the table. Not that long, though, that we had to make comment. My wife asked for a Pimms, quite a common Summer drink, although not one that was familiar to our waitress. She had water instead. Your more senior waiting staff were obviously more experienced and capable.
I would like to have seen a fillet steak on the menu, the sirloin was rather tough, although again, not worth making a fuss.
I must say that normally I object to a service charge being automatically added to the bill, but in this instance I didn’t feel it was excessive and was happy to oblige.

Two couples had dinner. Thought expensive and lacking the quality we had expected. The service was attentive and efficient.
Starters of squid were good. My starter of scallops was marred by grains of sand, I think the scallops had not been washed before cooking, also scallops overcooked. Two of us had halibut with mussels; the fish was overcooked, the mussels in shells were just plonked on the plate. My husband had chicken - also dry and over cooked. My daughter had an excellent steak.
Our breakfast the next day was really really good; one of the best I have had for a while.

When on holiday we've eaten at the Black Lion on many occasions because we've loved the atmosphere and excellent food and choices. However, having not been for two years it was disappointing to see how it's changed. The food and service was good but there was little choice on the menu. We couldn't help but feel that the Black Lion has lost it's personality by trying to go too up market which is a great shame. It's so much part of the village please don't try too hard...
Business Response:
Having achieved our AA 3* star rating for the hotel we no longer operate as a pub nor offer pub food. We now operate as a restuarant and bar and our menu's etc are available on our website. Our evening dinner menu provides a balanced offer of local, seasonal produce and is not, in our opinion lacking in choice. The refurb has received much acclaim and I note your high score in relation to the ambience. The Lion most definately has a personality and is well supported by the village, hence we are still here after 2 turbulent years of COVID. The last 2 years have required hospitality to make many changes to survive and the re-branding from a pub to a restuarant & bar has ensured that both we and the village pub offer a good range of options for our visitors.- Overall: 7/10

Although paid the service charge I don't feel its right to add it onto the bill. I think that's rude tbh.

We came for pre theatre menu. Food was lovely but service was way too slow and spoilt evening as we were constantly on edge as we thought we would not make show on time. The kitchen and service need to be much quicker when someone books pretheatre. If this had been a normal meal out then I would have had no complaints at all

I was extremely shocked and disappointed at both the service and food quality that we received when we visited you yesterday (18th August).
Not only was the lamb the most dry and over cooked piece of meat I have ever eaten in my life, but the service by the restaurant staff was genuinely appalling. We were sat waiting for over 30 minutes for out main plates to be cleared whilst watching the member off staff sat chatting and playing on his phone. After having to go and ask for our plates to be cleared and for pudding menus, the staff member cleared half the plates and never returned! After waiting again for another 25 minutes , we decided to leave. Toby who was working on the bar was great and extremely apologetic, however the other two staff members were no where to be seen.
Such a shame as was our last day in Little Walsingham and we were very much looking forward to a nice meal to finish off our break away.
Business Response:
I believe your plates were left at the table at your request as you told staff the children were still "picking". Staff checked back to the table and though the lamb which in your opinion was "tough, and dry" the plate was eaten in total and the complaint was made after the lamb had been eaten. You were offered complimentary desserts but declined. Your were compensated on your bill. Having checked the Cctv I confirm staff attended your table regularly and no staff member were on their mobile phone during service. Your review is at odds to the evidence on the Cctv, so lacks credibility.- Overall: 10/10

There was a very limited menu which was not as we understood from the website. We booked on the basis of the A la Carte menu which was not available. As we would face a charge if we cancelled we were left with little option.

Salt marsh lamb was beautifully cooked and the vegetables complimented the dish well.
Staff went above and beyond. I have food allergies and carry an Epi-pen. They made sure I was informed thoroughly about all the food on the table (not just mine in case of sharing), the bread (often overlooked in restaurants) and whether my allergies were airborne (first time anyone has ever asked). So impressed with their professionalism and caring attitude. We had a wonderful dinner. Thank you.

Had asked for a window seat, but to no avail. Waiter was very helpful and accommodating. The risotto was far too large, bland looking and lacking flavour. The duck was only warm and not hot. The duck meal was small, not satisfying. Overall we felt the meals were extremely overpriced!
