What a lovely restaurant!! The guys who were waiting table were absolutely brilliant and certainly knew their stuff. The steaks we ordered were cooked to perfection and so very tasty. We were visitors to York and went to El Gaucho on recommendation from someone who lives locally. Also recommended by a staff member at our hotel. We will certainly visit again when we return to York and for a restaurant to be so busy on a Monday (although this did not affect the level of service or the quality of the food) is recommendation enough

Really, really good on all counts. My party-of-three had a sharing starter (nachos with additional beef) which was fabulous, then three different steaks, and each was cooked as we had requested, the meat was fabulous (no excess fat or gristle), and the sides great as well. Atmosphere and ambiance were homely and had nice design touches of Argentinian pictures and posters on the walls. Very different from the usual "chain" steakhouses I have visited; will definitely consider El Gaucho again when I am in York for a meal out.

Friendly and very helpful staff, very accommodating for my 8 year old too, serving a smaller portion of one of the chicken dishes. Went as a treat for 15 year olds birthday. We all had something different from the menu and all really enjoyed our meals. Pork ribs were given as the highlight!
8 year old and 15 year old were very happy with their desserts.

Excellent dinner. We both had steaks and they were cooked to perfection. The staff were amazing and very attentive without being intrusive. Best meal we had in York in our 5 day stay. Can’t recommend this restaurant enough. We had thankfully booked in advance as this restaurant is very popular. Thanks for a lovely evening.

Lovely restaurant, small enough to be cosy but without being cramped. Staff really friendly and helpful. Menu for drinks and food both had a good selection and reasonable prices. The meat was really tender and cooked to a good standard and the sides generous portions. Recommend the Argentinian Malbec Rose. Lovely taste for when you don't want something too heavy. I'd definitely go back.
