At first I was a bit disappointed that we only had the Bistro menu to choose from but as it turned out it was superb. The bouillabaisse was incredible, so much flavour and depth. The duck confit (two legs!) and its sauce were equally good. These dishes take hours to prepare and you can appreciate it in every mouthful. Good atmosphere and considerate service completed a wonderful dining experience.

I'll just copy what I put on Google Maps: "A really lovely little country pub/restaurant. We first went there in May - stumbled on it by accident when looking for a place for lunch when in between guided tours of the nearby Thornborough Henges. Unfortunately at that time we were very pushed for time, but enjoyed our two starters (& the friendly reception) so much that we promised we'd be back. And this was the perfect place to stop for a more leisurely lunch on our way to Thirsk. Excellent food, welcoming & friendly staff, able to sit outside both times, just a really nice place. The menu is gratifyingly limited, so you know that care is being taken with each dish, and attention to detail. Other reviews make the evening dinner atmosphere sound very enticing, but a bit too far away for us, but we'll definitely be back again for lunch." Also, we want to give a big thumbs up to our lovely waitress Oxana (I'm sure that's not the right spelling!)

The staff were amazingly professional, considerate and appeared genuinely interested that our needs were catered for. We had pre booked a table and they were aware we had a dog with us; on our arrival there was a beautifully set table, with lit candles and a water bowl for our Patterdale. What a lovely thoughtful touch. It appears this delightful pub has a good staff team who even though it was a really hot day and the village sports day to boot, would go above and beyond to make their customers feel very welcome. Thank you so much and see you soon.

This restaurant never ceases to please and excite us. Sunday lunch was a great delight… again! We can never usually eat a 3 course meal, but The Bruce Arms offers perfectly sized portions to indulge us, so we get to try interesting and thoughtful plates of food. Miso salmon with kohlrabi salad, or an egg in filo pastry on a delicious black pudding starter was followed by a traditional and not so traditional course. The Beef roast was delicious, tender and not piled up on your plate like so many pub roasts, but enough to feel completely satisfied. The stone bass fish was exquisite but the vegetables that go alongside are so carefully prepared, fresh and tasty. Not just greens and carrots but a medley of fresh seasonal produce. To finish an appropriately sized innovative taste of summer strawberries fun, or a rich chocolate orange pot to complete and satisfy! Friendly and welcoming staff, I was surprised to get a table booked just the day before, but so Glad we did! We completed the meal with a great bottle of wine, a Beaujolais Village 2021, Delicious! We always come out asking ourselves- why don’t we go there more often? So thank you Matt and Philippa, The Bruce is a little gem in our area.

Fantastic meal in a friendly local pub . Would rate this as one of the best meals we have had beautifully cooked and presented . We were concerned when we sat down that the music choice could spoil our meal , I imagine it had understandably been chosen by the 3 young girls waiting tables and working in the bar . Thankfully they or another member of staff became aware that the customers age range would probably prefer something more “smooth radio” than rap and hip hop ! .

A lovely succinct menu... we can hardly ever eat a 3 course meal, so don't bother elsewhere. Fed up with quantity over quality... I can confirm at the Bruce arms its all about quality. My friend and I had an truly excellent lunch at The Brue Arms on Saturday, in more ways than one. We were running a little late due to traffic but it was not a problem when we called. Service was excellent, informative, particularly on their considered wine selection, and the food did not fail to deliver. The best sausage and mash (With a twist) my friend had ever had and my bacon chop was beautifully cooked, accompanied with perfectly cooked chips and a generous salad. We cheekily asked if chef might be able to make some sandwiches to go as some of the boys that were playing cricket down the road at North Stainley didn't have time to buy lunch. Not a problem. The sandwiches were fantastic according to the lads and, given the quality, very fairly priced in the circumstances. The team won too, so an excellent day all round. Will certainly go again and could not recommend highly enough. A real gem.

My wife and I stayed at the Bruce Arms last weekend and had a great time and were very impressed with everything about the place. The staff were never less than helpful and friendly from the moment of our arrival. Although we had never been before, we felt almost like regulars by the the time we left. The pub is full of character with an especially elegant dining room. The bedroom was very comfortable and well-appointed. The food is, perhaps, the pub's speciality and didn't disappoint. A Truly excellent and imaginative menu. Maybe a little expensive for some. I must mention the beer on offer. There can't be many pubs in N Yorks villages offering a draught Belgian ale. Top marks! Thanks to all for a lovely weekend. I'm sure we'll be back before long.

Well, first of all we turned up a day late for our reservation. The staff were incredibly nice about it and made space in the bar for us even though they were fully booked. We were so grateful, especially so as the meal we then had was fantastic. Great quality, lovely flavours and generous portions. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. We had a great meal and plan to come again, next time on the right day.

We enjoyed a really lovely evening at the Bruce. Great atmosphere, attentive service and well cooked and presented food. These guys are really trying to create a memorable dining experience and all credit to them. We will most certainly return. Amazing cheese board too with delicious veggie and vegan options! :)

Such good service and food.. we had the 3 part Sunday dinner and I couldn’t fault it in anyway at all. The staff where brilliant.. faltless.. really accommodating to having a small slightly shouty baby at times.. I’ll definitely be recommending the Bruce arms to all my friends and family and visiting again

Risotto dry (guest comment)...but that was all. Please don't have canned music.......................many elderly have "hearing" problems and canned music sometimes makes hearing others impossible and does NOTHING to add to the ambience, in fact ,quite the opposite! One car was parked across disabled bays.(not your problem I know) ..but two guests are disabled.
