We have been staying The Parsonage Hotel for many years, for 2/3 night overnight stays when we go to York Races. The complex is superb, very fairly priced and very comfortable. The Fat Abbot is ideal for a nice meal after a day at the races, real ales, fine food and fine wine. We have dined at The Fat Abbot this week for 3 nights, May 13 - 15 and as always we cannot fault any aspect of it.

Staff and service was excellent. After seeing photographs online of examples of food we were disappointed with the limited menu options. My wife had fish and chips which was lovely as was my mushroom starter. My sirloin steak, however, looked insipid and tasted bland - without any flavour. Even the vinegar was watery and had no flavour.

Only reason I have rated service a 9 is because we were waiting 25 minutes for the bill. The two waitresses were great making sure everything was ok so friendly and polite. Steaks were done to perfection, best I’ve ever had.

Visited on a warm summers evening so a good time to enjoy sitting outside. Decent menu with a limited choice of dishes but the " specials of the day " gave it a bit more variety and the daily pie specials were good value. Service excellent. Will return.
