Only suggestion would be to maybe put citronella candles on the tables to deter the flies from joining us.

What a nice venue and lovely staff, the children’s chicken nuggets and chips were lovely however we were disappointed by the roast dinners. The beef was fine it was the rest of the dinner that really let it down. It tasted like the Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes had been previously cooked and reheated from frozen, the Yorkshire puddings in particular were not nice to eat. Hopefully this feedback will help as everything else was so nice about the venue.

As fairly regular customers, pre-Covid, it was good to be able to re-visit The Friar's Head once again, even though the current situation inevitably made the whole experience feel very different, with the noticeable lack of buzz when the restaurant used to be functioning more fully.
However, the two members of staff who waited on us throughout our meal managed to help us relax, enjoy our meal, and for a brief time forget all about Covid and Boris Johnson - which in itself was a very welcome tonic!

Sat outside so had to have the outdoor menu... Main menu offered a cheeseburger but if sitting outside you can only order a beef burger? Doesn't make sense your choice of food is limited because you chose to sit outside... Maybe 2 meters from a table inside? Would be nice if this was reflected online to customers are aware.
On several trips to the bar there was no staff and customers waiting.

Apologies about this and blaming the country location are fine but if you leave an outside door wide open next to the toilet area it is inevitable that there will be easy access for flies!

Originally tried to book a table for 7.30 - however the only time available was 4.30. Took that booking and stayed at the restaurant until around 6.30. There was only one other table occupied whilst we were there. We would have much preferred a later booking. I’m not sure we would book again for this reason.

The meal was spoilt by a fly or flies which kept buzzing us during the time we were there. Side Vegetables could be better. Large unpeeled carrots not very palatable. Fish pie needed prawns. On the plus side sausages very goo. as was local beer Semer Water.

The food was not as good as the last time we ate there even though we had the same! The fish pie was lovely last time we were there but this time it was very dry. I think it had been frozen then reheated My husband had another Cajun chicken burger but the burger bun was really dry as if that too had been frozen. The service was not good, the young waitress did not understand what ABV stood for when we asked the ABV percentage of the lagers
The chair that one of our party was sat on outside, collapsed and the back sheered off, the waitress was taking our order at the time. I could not believe she said nothing, or asked if he was okay, she just glanced at him, and carried on taking the order.
Our friend was quite upset of the lack of attention or an apology for the chair not been in good condition, he even had to get a replacement chair himself.
It was such a shame as this was our first visit with these friends and even though the food was lovely, they were appalled at the lack of service and doubt they would return.
