Award winning plant based restaurant, known for its relaxed friendly service and variety of dishes all made in house. Opened in 2011, the restaurant is nestled in the picturesque village of Trowse Newton overlooking the village green, just 20 minutes walk from Norwich City centre. We specialise in local produce used seasonally. Chef Chris Avey is responsible for a regularly changing menu, award winning recipes, and teaches cookery classes. The menu at River Green is entirely vegan and gluten free as standard (or gluten free option eg; Where bread is included.) Chris is able to cater for restricted diets of all kinds (though a little forewarning is requested!)

The Mediterranean Flavours Workshop was an excellent experience and I would like to recommend it to everybody! It was very calming and inspiring and we were able to taste lots of different recipes which were really tasty. We also got a folder with all the recipes made on the day and many more! We've already bought the ingredients to make some of the recipes at home (including Nutritional Yeast). Thank you very much Chris & James for such a wonderful evening! Having come to the River Green for the first time, I looked up the place due to my partner having various dieting requirements.
I have to say the atmosphere was brilliant, the staff attentive, the dishes beautiful and the choices for the diary and gluten free were amazing. At no such stage has my partner ever experienced the ability to be lost for choice as there was such a variety on the menu.
I thank Chris along with all the staff for a wonderful meal. We shall surely return hungry for more.

I really liked the meal that we had at River Green 3 days ago. While I could always appreciate a bit more spiciness (both in the capsaicin sense as well as other spices but that is my personal leaning), the meal was flavourful and well prepared. The mushroom Tacos and Mushroom Wellington were excellent and the Salsify Goujons were well prepared and pleasant while the tartare dip was fine but could have had some more zip to it.
The service was very attentive and the portions of the meal modestly filling without being excessive. The room is nice but as a person with hearing issues I find the hard surfaces make for a loud environment and on a cold evening it was a bit chilly. My wife finds the table supports to be at an unfortunate height but at least they are solid.
Very good in all ways and highly recommended.

Our favourite restaurant, always friendly and welcoming. The ever changing menu is fresh and flavoursome. Mains were delicious as were the desserts. Everything was very well presented and the staff are genuinely interested in how you’re enjoying your meal.

Very pleased to get a booking for Valentine's day lunch. Lovely fresh flowers on the table and heart shaped serviettes, charming service , very prompt , efficient and friendly. The food was delicious , wonderful levels of flavour in the cauliflower manchurian and pulled cauliflower and noodles. The yellow curry was very mild, perhaps needed a bit more sauce, the no nut roast was delicious and huge ! Pommes dauphinoises instead of roast potatoes were slightly undercooked, but it was all very tasty, and the crumble and affogato were great, they even changed the ice cream flavour for me. Draught beer and organic red wine were both excellent.
Our thanks for a delightful lunch, we have been to eat here several times and will certainly return.
