Starting out in 1976 as a quiche and crepe bistro, The Rue now specializes in fresh regional cooking, with influences from France, Italy, and Asia. "The only thing French about us is our name," says restaurant owner Deb Norman, who likes to call the food at The Rue "American Bistro Cooking."

Al Forno, which means "from the oven," was inspired by Northern Italy's fine cuisine, which makes extensive use of wood-burning overs and open-flame grills. The menu reflects all provinces of Italy, Provence, and Providence.

Formerly a tiny indoor speakeasy, due to Coronavirus, we now operate as an outdoor-only patio as an extra safety measure (prepare for outdoor seating before arrival!). We pride ourselves on providing an inclusive space for all to enjoy and offer innovative, fresh, seasonal cocktails and snacks with a casual vibe and decent playlist. Also, twinkle lights are a must!
