The Sugar Mill - a fine dining restaurant featuring fresh lobsters, the best steak in our "Steak Bar," Tournedos Rossini, Scallops in champagne sauce, pate de foie gras, escargots, gourmet risottos, duck, chicken curry and roulade, white fish as well as vegetarian and Caribbean specialties. It was such a special restaurant to eat at on our last night of family vacation in Tortola. My son’s lobster was a little salty, that’s the only reason I’d give food a 9, everything else including the food was a 10. The reaction of the staff to us saying his was a little salty was to immediately apologize and took the entre off our check. That makes all the difference! So professional.

The Sugar Mill Restaraunt remains excellent! The service was attentive but not rushed. The lobster was delicious. The setting on the Terrace was beautiful and felt just like dining in the Sugar Mill room used to feel but with ocean sounds. We also stayed in the hotel which was perfect and we were able to have a wonderful breakfast as well. Could not recommend higher. You should eat here.

The team headed by Andrea and Mary made the dining experience completely relaxed and chilled. The ambience was lovely and food lived up to our expectations (based on recommendations). Our waitress, Anita, for the evening was attentive to our needs and very pleasant throughout. Next year a few more roast potatoes and gravy would be a worthy addition to the Christmas menu.

Loved everything: the service, the food, the setting was wonderful. The only issue we experienced ? The music was dreadful. Sorry, make that beyond dreadful. The playlist wasn't just eclectic (40's through 2000's), it was just HORRIBLE.
The owner / manager should ask the PATRONS ~ AND THE STAFF (who have to listen to the same crap night after night) ~ what they REALLY want to hear. Otherwise, keep up the great work ! Just wear ear plugs !

Outstanding food, service and well, you couldn't ask for a more glorious venue. The Sugar Mill Hotel has one of the top 3 restaurants in the BVI. 8 for food only because we have traveled quite a bit and some of the great chefs of the world have cooked for us. 8 is pretty darn good and on parr with the other 2 great restaurants here.

Lovely wait staff who make you feel genuinely welcome. The menu at Sugar Mill is classic French, very traditional but nothing wrong with that as long as you enjoy butter and cream (which we do). I eat here regularly and it is consistently good. I like the wide selection of "house" wines which are reasonably priced at $37 per bottle (a very low mark-up on local retail prices) and the more luxury selection is very nicely curated, with some real gems to enjoy.

We dined at the Sugar Mill Restaurant three times during our stay there. It’s a lovely setting and ambiance, the waves crashing nearby, sitting in the open air stone sugar mill. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, particularly if you are a hotel guest. If not, and without a reservation, you are then considered a “walk-in” and treated differently, as we found out one evening when they mistakenly thought we were not hotel guests. Interesting to see the difference.
The food is very good overall and just right portions that will not fill one up too much. The filet mignon was excellent, the grouper overcooked and dry. Desserts are delicious. Entrees range from $37 - $50 approximately. Our average tab was $185 with tip. Expensive, but the BVIs tend to be that way. And the food does take awhile to come out, so patience is needed while dining there. Overall a lovely time.

We were glad to be back after the hurricane and had a very nice evening. The ambience was awesome as usual so kudos to the owners for bringing the Sugar Mill back! The food was also very good, so it was just the service that was lacking due to brand new staff who did not know the menu well and should have had more regular assistance through the evening. That said, everyone was extremely nice and we will be back and still highly recommend dinner when on Tortola!

our party of 4 enjoyed 2 dinners at Sugar Mill and table location makes a difference. the first dinner our table was on the first tier near the bar was lovely. second dinner 2/9 we were the last table at the rear of restaurant. okay but there was quite a disturbance in the kitchen between staff, the manager had to intervene several times. it caused uneven service and was distracting. 2 dinners arrived and there was a fairly long wait for the remaining 2 meals to be delivered. also fine dining we expect the server to know who ordered what - not asking who gets the fish pie??

The manager is amazing and the owner wonderful but the staff couldn't offer proper service, waited over an hour for drinks and had to ask. Not everyone got the same menu. Had to ask for drinks multiple times and they would bring out one plate at a time. We had 3 kids with us who were pretty hungry but everything took so long that we had to break the party up and send some kids home and take to go boxes. The owner organised all of that for us which was wonderful because the staff weren't doing it.

This was a difficult review to make because the service was wonderful and everyone else’s food was amazing; however, as a vegetarian, it wasn’t! Risotto was the only vegetarian option and I chose the caprese one. The olives were the cheap ones I never buy and I don’t actually think fresh basil was used, and instead, they used dried. All I can say is it wasn’t very nice at all. When you consider I was charged $25 for the basic risotto and then another $10 for the mozzarella, basil and olives, I was not impressed!
Everyone else’s food looked great and was thoroughly enjoyed but as a vegetarian, I am fed up being offered very little choice and the quality being poor.

The management asking for more gratuity for their staff was over the top.
The management should compensate the staff via an hourly wage. 15% + more was over the top.
