The black cod was perfectly baked, and the dumplings always excellent. We had a bento vegetable bento box that was very good but maybe the mix could be updated and changed? My sushi was very good. The neighboring table was loud and the restaurant is loud. Maybe add some baffles under the tables to absorb some of the noise? It works at Glenstone cafe! Helps. Overall service fast and pleasant.

Raku is excellent and wonderfully consistent. I had 5 spiced duck for dinner….perfectly cooked, delicious. Red curry mussels as a shared appetizer… also delicious. I eat at Raku Bethesda and Raku Cathedrsl Heights frequently.

Love this place! It's hands-down the best sushi and Japanese food in the area. I believe the chefs trained in Japan(Don't know sure). This is the only restaurant I've been going to in Bethesda since I started working in the area back in the early 2000s. It's a total hidden gem.

Love Raku - Can always count on a really good meal, with pleasant servers and a relatively decent value (for Bethesda). It gets a bit crowded and the volume can go up a bit - but it's really better than most places in the area. We think that's why Raku has lasted so long when other restaurants come and go. We'll go back again and again.

The broiled black cod is so very delicious, mouthwatering and satisfying. It is a large buttery piece of fish atop an amazing sauce, sautéed mushrooms and greens - I love it! Our recent visit to Raku Bethesda was just perfect!

We were there on a rainy night after a movie. The place was packed, and very loud. We were privy to all our neighbors' discussions. Not as cozy as we had hoped. The only wrong note on the menu was the star anise sauce on the dumplings. It was too sweet and the licorice flavor was too pronounced. We just scraped it off and enjoyed the dumplings on their own. In all, an enjoyable night, but don't go if you want a cozy spot and intimate conversation.

Raku is one of my favorite restaurants and once again I was not disappointed—everything we ordered was delicious. Portions are large, though, and I would prefer having the choice of half portions so that I could sample more dishes. I was sorry not to find my beloved mushroom and spinach salad that was available before the renovation.

Dishes were all excellent. The unfamiliar ingredients on the menu were a bit difficult to decipher but our server explained as best she could. The table for 2 was a small for the variety of dishes as well as our individual plates. As many Asian dishes have high sodium levels, if there were any "lower sodium" dishes on the menu, identifying them would have been helpful.

The dining room remains the same as before refreshing this summer. It is cheerful, well appointed, with extremely gentle and attentive service. The food is the best I’ve experienced in Japanese dining, perhaps in any cuisine, ever. The lunch specials are that, special. The butterflied shrimp on a bed of rice was particularly delightful and delicious. The shrimp had a slight taste of the sea and was so fresh, I had to consider my next taste. This doesn’t happen every dining out experience.

Food and service are great. The indoor dining room is super noisy; I came out with a headache and that felt like a slow-building torture. I’ve sat at the bar before and did not have that problem. Management may want to consider some noise reduction apparatus. I won’t be back in the dining room and that is the only reason.

The sushi was excellent and fresh. The pork bun appetizer was spectacular. Didn't care for the summer rolls, a bit bland. Our waitress was very attentive and outstanding. She had a lot of tables to attend to and did so very well, never missing a request. The interior dining was just too crowded for my comfort, so we enjoyed dining outside (but that's why I'm not giving a higher rating for ambience).

Everything was terrific except when one gets a three course meal it would be better if the courses were served separately and not al at the same time.
