The journey of Red Tavern began in 1997 by then owners and visionaries Craig Thomas and Maria Venturino. In November of 2013, Rich and Chris Garcia jumped at the opportunity to purchase this Chico landmark. Although we appreciate and respect yesteryears, we bring our own style to our restaurant. We are committed to providing innovative, interesting and delicious New American cuisine while using the best in available produce and proteins produced in a sustainable, organic and responsible manner. Our menu changes with the season utilizing the amazing local resources we have. Our chefs are highly-trained, professional and imaginative. We believe in providing the best in service. The sauce on the salmon was awful. I could not eat it. The salmon would have been better without it. It did not come with a lemon. The ribeye was so tough my friend could not eat it. The bread and butter was tasty. Very expensive food, but not very good. The patio was beautiful and the singer has a gorgeous voice. The waiter was nice and very efficient. The food could definitely be improved.

I brought an out of town guest and Red Tavern did not disappoint! The best Caesar Salad ever. Everything was delicious. Service was great. Only one suggestion. We had the Shrimp and Pasta. It was Really spicy. If it doesn’t say so already on the menu, it might be helpful to add that! Thank you for being a great part of Chico.

My husband ordered the meatloaf because he had had it before and loved it, He rated his 7.5
I ordered that sausage and meatballs with Papardelle noodles. It was OK. The meat was a little overcooked and dryer than I like. The noodles were good, but overall just didn't taste moist and fresh. Wouldn't order that again. Our friends ordered the fillet and were very happy with it. The staff was absolutely amazing, and the evening was very pleasant.

Our server Michael was incredible. He was very patient as we were not the quickest decision makers. The cocktails were excellent as was the wine and champagne. If I must make a criticism, I did not really like having the server tip on the bill especially since we were only a table of 6. I'm not sure what the % of tip given was but I felt Michael deserved a bit more. That being said I left an additional cash tip but I felt odd leaving it as it feltt as though I was not tipping him enough. IE because the majority of the tip had already been included. But anyway that, if you call a comment, is my only comment. Everything really was superb!!!

I was disappointed in the entire experience. The service was mediocre at best - as was the food. It was very different from our last visit here a few months ago. Drinks were forgotten, the cocktail menu kept being taken, I had to ask multiple times for refills - it just wasn’t a good experience overall. We won’t be back.

We had reservations for our anniversary. The table was set up for us with a special note. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable.
I ordered a Berry Mojito and it was absolutely delicious.
We ordered off of the salad and small plates menu. The grilled peaches and burrata cheese plate was simply divine. I would order that again.

Our evening was perfect overall. Great weather with lovely music on a Monday night. Love eating outdoors.
The kitchen had some “troubles” we were told, so our octopus was super delayed. The actual amount of octopus served was the smallest amount that we have ever experienced. Good thing we ordered two. Miss the chorizo, though.
The halibut, however, was some of the best we have EVER had. So tasty and delicious! Can’t wait to go back just for that.
Love how the menu is labeled gluten free now. Also love that the owner stops by your table to check on you!
Overall, a wonderful evening. Red Tavern continues to be our number 1 pick! Keep up the good work and be on the lookout for some bigger octopus servings!

We were on our way out so I didn’t rate ambiance lower here but a group of 8 very loud younger people were seated by us and had a cell phone on speaker blasting something I wasn’t interested in hearing.

Everything was delicious! Service was wonderful! My only complaint (minor) was the noise level. Our table was next to the bar which was loud and made it hard to hear one another. We were celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary and made a reservation. Had hoped for a quieter spot.

Red Tavern has fantastic ambience and great food with a menu that is revised often enough to keep everyone interested, including the regulars. The owners are very engaged - and engaging - and have done an excellent job in creating and sustaining what is easily Chico's best fine dining experience.

I love going to the Red Tavern. I have never been disappointed. I especially enjoy the patio, but we ate inside due to the weather. I had the roasted pork and risotto and it was tender and delicious. My friend really enjoyed her bucatini and clams. The service and food is the best in Chico.
