The journey of Red Tavern began in 1997 by then owners and visionaries Craig Thomas and Maria Venturino. In November of 2013, Rich and Chris Garcia jumped at the opportunity to purchase this Chico landmark. Although we appreciate and respect yesteryears, we bring our own style to our restaurant. We are committed to providing innovative, interesting and delicious New American cuisine while using the best in available produce and proteins produced in a sustainable, organic and responsible manner. Our menu changes with the season utilizing the amazing local resources we have. Our chefs are highly-trained, professional and imaginative. We believe in providing the best in service. Always love coming to Red Tavern! The only reason I didn't give a 10 out of 10 for Ambience is because the tables are so close together that it's sometimes hard to have a private conversation, depending on who is sitting next to you. I know that is very hard to remedy and still have your bookings at capacity, which I hope continues to happen so you remain in Chico! I love your special dinners on Thursdays and especially love to be informed of the wine paring dinners when they happen. Thank you!

We sat at a table on the patio, the setting was perfect. Our wait person was very personable, attentive and outgoing. We were very impressed with her knowledge of the menu items and wine list. We would definitely go back when we are in the area.

Grant was our server. Such a polite, friendly young man. As he handed us our menus, he wished us a happy anniversary . Food was, as always delicious. My dessert was quite tasty, the Lemon Custard. My favorite is your Crème brûlée. Is there certain times during the year you serve it?
Next time we hope weather permits us to sit outside in your lovely garden. We appreciate your restaurant being the best in fine dining here in Chico.

We went for Happy Hour and the experience was delicious and delightful. The service was fantastic. The wines being served were very good. I had the Pinot Noir and my friend had the Chardonnay. The prices for the food and wine were very reasonable. We decided to also order a dish to share from the main menu. Had the homemade pasta with added chicken. Then we each had a dessert. I will certainly go back to this restaurant the next time I’m in Chico.

I recently enjoyed a wonderful birthday dinner at the Red Tavern. The food was excellent. We shared the goat cheese croquettes and charcuterie board, delicious! My husband had the Caesar salad, he said it was a mild dressing that could have been turned up a notch. I thought it was very good. I had the sea bass and it was perfectly cooked. My husband had the mushroom pasta with shrimp, he enjoyed it very much. The bar service was amazing and our server was exceptional. Thank you for making my birthday so special.

The overall experience was excellent. The service was superb and every dish we had ordered came out of the kitchen hot and in a reasonable amount of time, allowing for a relaxed and elevated experience. We needed an extra seat for our group. Nothing could be taken from the nearest table because it was reserved. It was still empty when we left. No other chair was offered because it would block access to the other unoccupied table. We scrunched on the banquette to fit in the extra person. You didn't do anything to help with this unexpected situation. All else was superb.

The sauce on the salmon was awful. I could not eat it. The salmon would have been better without it. It did not come with a lemon. The ribeye was so tough my friend could not eat it. The bread and butter was tasty. Very expensive food, but not very good. The patio was beautiful and the singer has a gorgeous voice. The waiter was nice and very efficient. The food could definitely be improved.

My husband ordered the meatloaf because he had had it before and loved it, He rated his 7.5
I ordered that sausage and meatballs with Papardelle noodles. It was OK. The meat was a little overcooked and dryer than I like. The noodles were good, but overall just didn't taste moist and fresh. Wouldn't order that again. Our friends ordered the fillet and were very happy with it. The staff was absolutely amazing, and the evening was very pleasant.

The service was very good. Our dinner was amazing! My filet was cooked to perfection and my husband loved the meatloaf. Octopus appetizer was just ok. They have a nice wine selection as well.

We always enjoy our meal at Red Tavern. The menu has a variety of choices and always delicious! The staff is always welcoming and friendly. We enjoy the patio dining for the ambiance and the background music is always a nice selection. Red Tavern is always a favorite for celebrations!

A return trip because it was so nice the first time. Vegetarian options and tasty proteins, shared plates and fun drinks, including Last Word. Service was attentive and fun and the owner took time to say hello. We will come back.

All entrees were delicious and attractively presented. I like to linger a bit when celebrating and the restaurant is not crowded - would have liked more time to savor the meal and enjoy dining companions before dishes were cleared.

Our server Michael was incredible. He was very patient as we were not the quickest decision makers. The cocktails were excellent as was the wine and champagne. If I must make a criticism, I did not really like having the server tip on the bill especially since we were only a table of 6. I'm not sure what the % of tip given was but I felt Michael deserved a bit more. That being said I left an additional cash tip but I felt odd leaving it as it feltt as though I was not tipping him enough. IE because the majority of the tip had already been included. But anyway that, if you call a comment, is my only comment. Everything really was superb!!!
