The journey of Red Tavern began in 1997 by then owners and visionaries Craig Thomas and Maria Venturino. In November of 2013, Rich and Chris Garcia jumped at the opportunity to purchase this Chico landmark. Although we appreciate and respect yesteryears, we bring our own style to our restaurant. We are committed to providing innovative, interesting and delicious New American cuisine while using the best in available produce and proteins produced in a sustainable, organic and responsible manner. Our menu changes with the season utilizing the amazing local resources we have. Our chefs are highly-trained, professional and imaginative. We believe in providing the best in service. Short ribs and mashed potatoes—the very best I’ve ever had. Service is great and wine list is fun to explore. I’ll be back!

My risotto was gummy, but everything else was great. Lovely evening and the outside dining is best in Chico.
Everything was great except when I wanted another glass of champagne they would not let me have one because they had already boxed up my food. They need to let people know that if they are done eating and boxed food that you can no longer order drinks. Otherwise everything was very very good.

We had a very enjoyable Brunch in spite of Covid precautions. The patio is well shaded and large enough to allow extra space between tables. We were well served by friendly but still professional waitress. The food was good under the circumstances but not great. We look forward to returning soon.

Booking online was super easy. The ambiance is extraordinary. It is good to be in a restaurant where one could actually hear the person(s) at the table, without overwhelming background noise. the server was professional and very friendly. My meal of filet mignon was tasty and perfectly done. My husband thought his halibut was dry and was not as impressed as I was.
Food is definitely the best in Chico. Our server was very nice and made good suggestions, especially as to wine. The outside seating area was nice and well spaced for the current situation. The only negative is they don't have a waiter station outside so you have to wait until your waiter happens to come out which doesn't happen all that often and none of the waiters for other tables will glance around to see you waving at them. They really need a station outside or at least someone out there at all times to see to the desires of their patrons, most of whom seem to be dinning outside these days.
Was our first outing to a restaurant since Covid started. We had a lovely evening sitting in the outdoor patio. Our waiter was super nice and the food was amazing! We felt relaxed and comfortable! Was a really great night out. Thank you!

One of the top restaurants in Chico, the Red Tavern is a great place to go for a special occasion, trying to impress someone or just have a great meal in a good atmosphere. We recently went to Sunday brunch for my adult son's birthday. The food was good, along with mid-day cocktails, a memorable experience. Recommended!
We didn’t care for the cheese/sauce on the filet mignon. The whole dish tasted the same and was overpowering. The seafood stew, puff pastry tart, and cocktails were excellent.
The main courses took a long time to be served, and some of the food was very salty.
