The journey of Red Tavern began in 1997 by then owners and visionaries Craig Thomas and Maria Venturino. In November of 2013, Rich and Chris Garcia jumped at the opportunity to purchase this Chico landmark. Although we appreciate and respect yesteryears, we bring our own style to our restaurant. We are committed to providing innovative, interesting and delicious New American cuisine while using the best in available produce and proteins produced in a sustainable, organic and responsible manner. Our menu changes with the season utilizing the amazing local resources we have. Our chefs are highly-trained, professional and imaginative. We believe in providing the best in service. My wife and I had another excellent meal at RT. Sydney was an excellent server and the food was prepared perfectly. I moved to Chico in 1977, a year after RT opened, and have enjoyed it all these years. The current owners are doing an excellent job. We look forward to your new Italian restaurant.

The food was delicious and great service. My only little complaint was when making the reservation, i indicated the occasion was my husband’s birthday. The man at the next table hearing our birthday discussion, handed us a sign he was given that it was his birthday.. Nothing like that was given to us.

The service was excellent the only reason I gave a 9 instead of a 10 is I felt the hostess could have taken the birthday cake we brought with us to the refrigerator as soon as we arrived. Instead we took it to the table, and then our waitress offered to put it in the refrigerator until after the meal. When being charged for cutting and serving our cake which I expected it would be nice to have it taken off our hands sooner.

Great place! Unfortunately it’s hard to find really good cocktails like this but this place has them. Braised short ribs were to die for. Rich even called and let us know they were opening a little later than normal (super hot day). Sounded like a really nice guy. Rio the bartender was great too! Makes great drinks. We will be back!

From making the reservation to paying the bill, our experience was top notch.
We brought friends to thank them for the beautiful gift they gave us and we all had a tremendous time. Our guests both had the Pork Chop special which they said was amazing. My husband had the tender and tasty Ribeye and I had the delicious Swordfish. Sides, drinks and desserts were all fabulous. Our server couldn't have been better. Perfect in every way.

We sat on the patio and it was absolutely lovely. They had the air circulating nicely with fans, ambiance with strung lights and ivy trailing up the walls and comfortable outdoor chairs (no cold metal here). The food was so delicious! It was fresh, perfectly cooked and seasoned and with interesting and thoughtful flavor combinations. Service was exemplary. All of the wait staff were courteous, timely and sincere. The desserts were ridiculously good too. Treat yourself and a loved one to a lovely experience at the Red Tavern!

Always creative and sophisticated cuisine with mellow ambiance. We choose the patio. Last night a performer sang some French ballads and other moody songs. Nice. The food was balanced in taste and texture. For example, the creative appetizer contained grilled nectarines, mascarpone(soft, creamy) with balsamic greens and pancetta on crunchy bread. Soft/crunchy, sweet/sour(nectarines/balsamic) and savory/salty(pancetta). Brilliant really.
Service was efficient, friendly, helpful with choices. Prices fair. My favorite restaurant in chico currently.

I think I was just expecting more. Red Tavern has been open a long time and has always had a great reputation. Nothing was bad, but only one thing was excellent. I would give the value a 10 because I thought the prices were very reasonable, but they substituted Petrale Sole for Halibut at the same price. The service was friendly and timely, just unknowledgeable about the menu and drinks. The Bolognese was excellent!

The good is delicious. I loved ths meatballs with polenta appetizer.
The service was impeccable and the patio was perfect for cool night with heaters. The music was beautiful and mot overwhelming. The staff was attentive and the food was perfect.

Everything was a 10! Always a pleasure to dine with you and never a disappointing experience!
The only odd thing was that this time we noticed the air inside smelled strongly of too many mingled or maybe stale perfumes. First time we noticed that, wish folks could be a little more sensitive to how much fragrance they apply when they're going to be in an enclosed space. Yikes!
