With over 35 years of experience in the culinary industry, Chef Ricardo Macias surely stands out from the rest.  His culinary masterworks showcase his talents in all areas, specifically including those in preparing seafood as well as Northern and Southern Italian cuisine.  Originally the executive chef for Anthony’s Star of the Sea, he eventually teamed up with restaurant owner Salvatore Vitale and General Manager Mario Valerio of De Medici, located on 5th Avenue in Downtown San Diego.  

Chef Macias’ food only serves to enhance the Italian Renaissance vibe and Old World charm that De Medici so beautifully presents.  Noodles used for the restaurant’s pasta dishes and lasagnas are made fresh in-house daily, along with their marinara sauces, salad dressings, and desserts.  Some dishes are even created tableside!  Macias’ nightly creations such as the restaurant’s signature piece, the Sole Portofino -- which is an entire sole filet stuffed with lobster, crab, and shrimp, surrounded by creamy mashed potatoes and served with grilled asparagus, cinnamon spiced carrots, and seasoned to perfection -- is guaranteed to be nothing short of a dream for your taste buds.
