Root Food + Wine is a rustic yet elegant, boutique restaurant in the heart of Missouri Wine Country, just up from the Katy Trail, in downtown historic Augusta, Missouri. It offers a locally sourced pre-fix dining experience, either inside the nostalgic 1905 vintage home or outside herb gardens, located on the grounds of Oaks Crossing.
Root Food + Wine is the fruition of a journey started by Chef Philip Day, 20 years ago. Chef Day's philosophy is to offer warm and gracious service, along with the highest quality of local sustainable produce for his cuisine.
The menu changes frequently with seasonality at the forefront. Guests can choose between a 3, 5, or 7 course or an a la carte experience. Craft beer and cocktail and wine options and pairings will always be available.

Not our first time a won’t be our last to enjoy this fabulous gem of a restaurant. Whether it’s the food or drink, everything chef and resident mixologist prepares is wonderful. Despite being a meat and potatoes kind of guy, at the urging of my foodie wife I went rogue this time and ordered things I didn’t even think I’d liked but was treated to several surprises that I can now add to my menu due to the wonderful preparation. Highly recommend this establishment for a great evening out, then stay at one of the nearby b&b’s.

it was such a memorable and special experience. One we will always remember with our closest friends. The food was INCREDIBLE. Rachel and Zach provided the best service, and we were blown away by the thoughtfulness of chef Phillip for providing one of guests (who has allergies) with a custom menu that she could enjoy as well. This is a great place. It's nicely tucked away into the little town of Augusta Missouri which reminds me a lot of Los Olivos in California. Anyway the food is fantastic the mixed drinks are alway delicious and fun to try. And the serving staff are fantastic. No hovering over you just waiting to snatch up the plate. This place is worth the drive from St.Louis for an evening dinner or if you are in the area from out of town. Oh and don't forget to try the bread!

Roots is a charming restaurant. The service is outstanding. The menu is varied. The food is delicious and the presentation is excellent.
The reason I rated the food slightly lower is due to the soup being too salty for our taste. However, we are on a lower sodium diet so items do taste saltier to us. We did note in comments that we do not want finishing salt on our menu choices. That being said, however, the onion soup was more on the order of onion broth with two or three onion slices and one mushroom in it. Technically, I suppose, it did qualify as a soup. The salt level and lack of onions in the soup was disappointing. It was the only item we felt was not on the same level as the other items on the menu. All other choices exceeded our expectations.
Overall, we would highly recommend Roots.

This was our first visit to the restaurant (and likely last as we live in another state). If we lived closer we would return to this restaurant for special occasion meals. Our server, Lily, was very friendly and helpful, explaining the courses, answering questions about ingredients (for a home cooking foodie), and suggesting great cocktail and wine pairings. The food quality was excellent - prepared, presented and served without pretense. We had a splendid meal and evening at Root!
