Located in Portobello, Edinburgh's Seaside, the Boathouse is the premier beach bar and restaurant that everyone is talking about.
Service was second to none, food was amazing, portion sizes huge so really good value for money. This place is very special will defo be back
Lovely lunch, brilliant friendly staff, lovely venue. No improvements needed! 10/10 xx
Great day out
Great safety in place with Covid 19. Great atmosphere and staff very friendly. Just thought Food quite basic, but good for a drink by the beach with a pizza
Had a lovely lunch in this great place. Great value and having Eat out to help out extended is so fantastic. Thank you
Staff are very efficient but friendly lovely relaxed atmosphere, just a shame all the caravans and vans are parked, as view would add to the lovely experience
Move the caravans from out the front so people have a view of the sea
Great service! A great evening! Didn’t eat but the drinks were lovely. Thank you all
Was a lovely few hours and all well organised. Thanks Lorraine
Had a lovely afternoon with my friend staff food & overall day was great - staff making you feel welcome & really looked after us
Friendly staff, helpful and warm welcoming. Good food. Great value. This was a family meal on a Sunday evening and everyone had a lovely time - fantastic views and dealing well with COVID-19 restrictions.
Staff lovely, all wore face coverings and everything very clean. All clientele were expected to wear a face covering when we moved from our table which was no problem. We had the nachos which were really tasty. Nice place to sit apart from the caravans at the front!
Our first time. Waitress was really friendly and helpful. Food was tasty and plenty of alcohol. Nice and relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be back. Highly recommend
Value, food and service would have been a 10 if it wasn’t for not being told we had to order all at once so our side dishes and mains all came out together without us knowing so some sides got left due to not wanting our mains to get cold. Then ordered 2 sticky toffee puddings and for £7 this was not great value as you could tell it was a steamed pudding out of a tin with no real flavour me and my mum ate a small bite of it and didn’t finish it, your staff took our desert away not even asking us if anything was wrong due to it hardly being touched and we were charged £14 for two puddings we didn’t eat. I don’t want to be all negative as the place is fantastic been a few times for a drink and when the menu was a lot greater I must however commend you on the fish & chips as it’s one of the best I have had outstanding. Will be back definitely just maybe not buy the sticky toffee pudding
Great afternoon on Saturday 25th July. Great atmosphere and service
Was a beautiful setting, so peaceful. Really great atmosphere and food was lovely and fresh
Amazing, attentive and knowledgeable staff with a huge selection of draft beers and delicious cocktails. We had an amazing evening and will definitely be back!
Had the Seafood Pescatore his time. Enjoyed it but felt too much spaghetti to seafood. I appreciate food was limited in the circumstances.
Staff were excellent and very accommodating.
1st time here and defo return. 1st class service. Prices and food. Totally enjoyable experience
Was great to enjoy a drink with a friend! Staff had everything under control but I think there should be a better system for the toilets as this was massively over crowded
food and cocktails were lovely and it was a really great place to be for our first meal out of lockdown. We will definitely be back
Just had drinks so can't rate food offer but absolutely loved this place. Will so be back.
Had a lovely lunch, food was lovely would have liked a variety of sandwiches on menu . Staff and atmosphere was very friendly would definetly come back.
10/10 Staff are so lovely and helpful. I would highly recommend and will be back!
Excellent as always, so wonderful to have them open again and to see all the lovely staff again who all worked so hard to ensure that people had a good time. Absolutely perfect
Had a lovely evening...and in these unusual times felt very safe and that the precautions that had to be implemented due to covid did not take away from our enjoyment. Well done to the whole team.
Lovely location, looking out to sea. Food was good quality. Staff were pleasant, but very busy and there was a bit of a wait for food. Overall well worth a visit and will definitely go back.
Great service, staff friendly and attentive. Relaxed, cheery atmosphere. Food was pretty simple but tasty. All in all a really good lunch.
Though early enjoyed our lunch. Wasn't too busy and good safety measures in place.
As a local, I use the Boathouse a lot. The service was great but we found that we kept having to ask for drinks - rather than staff asking us if we wanted anything. That said, the service was quick and the staff really nice. The online booking process works well and all in all its a great place to be.
Staff went above and beyond to ensure my daughter was seated with me lovely place x
Outlook spoiled by campervans etc and was a bit breezy . A big improvement on the old prom. I lived at the Joppa end from 1940s till 1960s and this is a welcome addition to the Portobello scene.
Good food, good choice of drinks, great, friendly staff and a well run, confidence inspiring restaurant from a Covid point of view. Lovely outlook to Portobello beach and promenade (if you ignore the 27 caravans and campers parked on the prom but that's not the fault of the Boathouse, it's the fault of the local authority.)
Had to wait an hour for food
Enjoyed the friendly atmosphere at the Boathouse. Staff very welcoming Food was tasty, would have liked some dressing on the salad. Processed peas served with the fish instead of mushy ones and shrimps on the pizza instead of prawns. Thank you.
Lovley place unfortunately wasn't happy with the food portions considering the price. Myself and friend both ordered scampi and chips. Scampi was OK but the chips were very sparse. Looked more like a child's portion. Unfortunately this has put me off coming back. Which is a shame as I live close by
Staff where wonderful despite it being very busy they we're attentive. Food was good if a bit slow. Ambiance perfect. Will go back
Food and drinks were lovely, although service could have been better. Would recommend to friends and family.
Good service and friendly staff Menu limited, also starter came at same time as main Only 3 single malt whiskys?? In Scotland?? Toilet issue needs sorting, queuing 5 mins for the loo isn't great Send the boys round and get rid of the gypsies,
Was lovely to be back staff were amazing so friendly and warm sadly the food wasn’t up to it’s usual standard nachos were cold and pasta was over spiced
Tables were not cleaned between bookings which I found concerning due to possible spread of Covid-19
Amazing food and cocktails! Most staff standing about and ignoring customers, so service was really slow
I really like the boathouse and have been on many of occasions. However my most recent experience was somewhat disappointing due to the service I received. Firstly, I requested to be moved table as I was seated on bar stools on the decking (which was not a problem) but I asked to be seated in a booth, which was free (actually 3 of them were free at this point). I spoke with 4 separate waitperson’s who told me they would check and let me know. It took until I asked the 4th individual for me to actually get a response, where they told me it was ok to move. When it did finally come to ordering the food, they said it was too busy to have my starter come first and then the main afterwards (as expected in most restaurants). However, I was told it was to busy for this and that all the food would be brought at once... I’m not sure why this is really any different from me ordering at two separate times, for example order starter, wait until finished and then order mains. But it just seems like unnecessary hassle. Finally, I found the service pretty slow. I felt I had empty glasses left on the table for a while before being picked up and even when they were, I wasn’t asked if I wanted another. So it felt like I was constantly having to flag waitperson’s down in order to be served. Overall, I do really like the Boathouse and think it is fantastic what you are doing. But I just think that some of these inconveniences damped my recent visit. Thanks,
Mussels and pizza are great menu choices. Great patio seating and clean bathroom. Very slow service though so I'd suggest ordering 2 drinks at a time
It was good but felt a little unorganised, the staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing. We ordered a pizza and garlic bread and cheese (she didn’t write the order down) and we got garlic bread instead. Several times we were offered other tables food and drinks as if the didn’t know the table numbers. There was a large table of men that clearly had been there a while as they were really loud, you could barely hear yourself talk. The staff did try to get them to quieten down a bit and eventually they were moved outside. I feel had there been a manager present, things would run much more smoothly and with better direction.
Food was really good . We ordered a round of cocktails at £7.50 a glass which looked and tasted exactly like cans of pre mixed gin and lemonade from Aldi which cost 60p and aren’t even the flavour the cocktail said it would be asked the waiter and he never denied that’s what we were served but the waiting staff were really nice great automosphere so nice to be out the house . So of us ordered food and that was really good value for money just not the raspberry mojittos xx
Very concerned that there was no test and protect system in place. We asked the staff and were told it wasn’t required. The service was slow and each time we wanted a drink or food we had to leave our seats to ask for a server to take our order. We were told they only did table service, and to wait for our waiter/waitress. Perhaps they were understaffed that night. Great location but will need to work harder if they want our repeat custom
