Launched in 2009, The Edinburgh Larder Café has built a solid reputation as being the place to eat seasonal, locally sourced, and tasty food in the heart of the city. We’re not shy to mention that we’re well known for our legendary brunch too!
Our regular favourites include a mighty full breakfast, veggie breakfast, eggs benedict or smoked cod, chorizo, and potato hash with a poached egg. We also love lighter options like a buttery breakfast bap or our porridge cooked to order with a selection of seasonal toppings and toasted nuts. All to be enjoyed with expertly crafted coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice.
We make our coffee with love and care using beans roasted locally. Our teas are blended by Edinburgh based Eteaket. We have a range of Scottish craft beer and delicious local soft drinks too.
Our staff all love to bake, so seasonal cakes are a specialty of ours. Our dark chocolate and nut brownies are regularly hailed as the best in town and are always gluten-free – though you would never know!

Booking Notes:
Please be aware we have a strict 24 hour cancelation policy and tables are held for 10 minutes past the booking time, at which point the table is released.
We're a small café and struggle to answer the phone during service, we can only accommodate groups up to 8.

Tables are available for 1 hour slots.
Our Brunch menu is served until 3pm each day. If you would like a table for coffee and a cake please book from 2pm onwards.

We visited Edinburgh Larder for Easter Brunch… food was incredible! Restaurant was cozy and staff had a good vibe. At the end of the meal, the manager asked if we had room for a scones as he had extra… so thoughtful and an amazing treat… totally made the meal memorable!

A warm and friendly welcome from host Diago. Fantastic local produce. Staff are excellent with brilliant Customer service and welcomed/treated like friends. A hidden Edinburgh gem but booking is essential. I always go to the Larder every time I am in town for the past 10 years and I have never been let down yet. "Probably" the best breakfast in Edinburgh - the full Scottish breakfast is epic with homemade beans. Sadly I don't live locally or would be in there all the time.
Highly recommended. Looking forward to my next visit.

We had breakfast here on a visit to Edinburgh in 2020 and found it excellent in every way. It was top of our list of things to do on our 2024 visit and it didn't disappoint. The food was fantastic, staff were really friendly and helpful and it was probably the best value meal we had in Edinburgh. Only advice I would give is to book your spot in plenty of time as it is always very busy.

Booked ahead for breakfast for our first morning in Edinburgh - knew it was popular as could only get an early table or one in the afternoon! Great food and drinks, friendly and attentive service and good prices. We ended up there again the second day (without having booked) and had to queue for a walk-in place but it was worth the wait. We come from the US to Scotland 1-2x per year and the first breakfast, assuming we are in Edinburgh, will ALWAYS BE the EDINBURGH LARDER. We are close to having tried everything on the menu and while everything is off-the-charts delicious, our favorites include: Porridge. Mushroom Toast. Scottish Breakfasts - vegetarian option so good, too. The hot drinks are A+ good. We love the team spirit and camaraderie, too. About 50% of the time we reserve, but we have never waited more than 20 minutes for a seat and even in the rain, the wait is a worthy one and will result in your enjoyment! ENJOY!

We went here because we heard they had good coffee and that is true, but the food was the best we had in Scotland. We went there again our last morning. My partner had the full Scottish breakfast and I had the mushroom toast the first time around. Best thing I ate though was the waffle the second time we ate there. I don’t normally like sweet for breakfast, but this was sweet and savory. Highly recommend. Wish I could have tried everything on the menu.

Excellent food and service. My wife and I ate here three times. Everything we ordered was perfectly prepared with good ingredients, complex flavors and delicious. Service was impeccable. Reservations are strongly recommended, even if you arrive at opening.

I was all flustered as I was running very late but they still had my table and the waiter brought me water without asking. I can recommend the smoked trout and cream cheese sandwiches, they were delicious. I will definitely return.

Thank you for removing the coffee from our bill. It wasn't a big deal but it does mean a lot that you were willing to correct the order after we got the wrong coffee. These kinds of things make an unpleasant experience a pleasant one. The food was absolutely delicious, clearly made with care and portioned fantastically. (I was worried that I would be unpleasantly full - I wasn't!) I also really like that you have 2 restaurants next to each other, where one is only drop-in, and the other only reservation-based. You guys truly studied the market and customer needs and delivered. It's a little cramped inside the Larder - no two ways about that. But the atmosphere was great thanks to your staff's good spirits!

We loved the food. It was cooked to perfection. The coffee was the best we had in Scotland. The scones were the best! The staff were welcoming, attentive, and hospitable. My only suggestion is the portion size for the waffles should be four pieces rather than two.
