Yakitori Izakaya Tec Chan: A Taste of Japan in Hillcrest!

Bringing traditional Japanese cuisine to Hillcrest in San Diego, Yakitori Izakaya Tec Chan serves Japanese fare such as Ramen, Yakitori, and Sushi to those looking for an authentic taste of the Land of the Rising Sun. If unfamiliar with Yakitori, the term refers to a wide range of grilled, skewered foods served in bite sized portions. In Japan, the use of a Binchotan (white Japanese charcoal) grill is the standard, and Yakitori Izakaya Tec Chan is one of the few restaurants in San Diego who goes to the trouble of utilizing an authentic Binchotan grill.

Appetizers include favorites such as Edamame (in plain and garlic varieties), Fried Baby Octopus, and Deep Fried Tofu. Yakitori such as Quail Egg, Asparagus Bacon, and Smelt will please less than adventurous eaters, while Chicken Heart, Chicken Gizzard, and Beef Tongue will please those looking for the true Yakitori experience.

Yakitori Izakaya Tec Chan also offers Okonomiyaki, which is essentially a Japanese Pizza. This savory pancake, based around a batter containing cabbage, is available in three varieties: Pork mix, Squid mix, and Green Onion mix. These all can be personalized with any combination of over fifteen ingredients to meet any diner’s personal preference.

The Ramen at Yakitori Izakaya Tec Chan is served in a Pork Broth and is available as Tonkotsu Ramen, Miso Tonkotsu, Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, and Spicy Miso Tonkotsu Ramen. Guests can choose between slim or flat noodles and can add up to ten extra topping to make this hearty soup their own creation.

Beverages at Yakitori Izakaya Tec Chan include beers such as Sapporo on draft as well as Asahi, Sapporo Premium, Koshihikari-Echigo-, and Orion in bottles. Both barley and sweet potato Soju are offered, as are a half-dozen Sake choices, Fruit Sake, Chu-Hi, and soft drinks such as Calpico.

With a great Happy Hour from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. offering 50% off select sushi, discounted appetizers, and drink specials, Yakitori Izakaya Tec Chan is a great place to meet up with friends after work for a few drinks and a quick snack. Open until 2:00 a.m. every day, it’s also a fine choice for a late night bite to eat.
