If you, or anyone you know suffers from peanut allergies, then you realize how terrifying an allergic reaction can be. According to the New York Times, there may be a treatment on the way. Duke University Medical Center's division of pediatric allergy and immunology presented findings on March 16, 2009 at a meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology in Washington. The findings suggested that a treatment for this extremely serious allergy may be developed in as short as three years. The treatments consist of medically supervised daily doses of peanuts in hopes of increasing the patient’s tolerance. This is great news for the approximately 3.3 million Americans that suffer from peanut allergies.
